I think rickenbacker are made by rickenbacker unless they have a secret factory in the far east and the guy that makes the truss rod covers isn,t very good at spelling.

you need a P-nut Have a go with one of them,take your time If it goes wrong you have a spare one for a tech to fit Have a read of joeys bass notes.

There you go They need 2 AC 30,S each then problem solved. I do know that in the past touring bands have had dummy Marshall cabs which were made slightly wider to accomadate AC30S.. Wonder what a bass would sound like through one ?

I was joking earlier about full marshall stack. Don,t they realise that even am AC 30 on full chat is screaminly loud and that,s only 30 watts. The golden rule-backline quiet and let the PA take the strain.Balanced sound is the key. Give the sound man a hand to Superglue their heads to the cabs,turn everything up to 10 or even 11 and walk away to the sound of feedback and screams

get a marshall VBA400 and 2 4x12 cabs and sound/pound them into submission Do a Lemmy

Yup they are great for the money. Quick set up ,strings of choice and good to gig. Good as that.

My Rick will not take a 105 E string since new so I use a 40-100 set and have used 35-95 and I think it sounds better with slightly smaller sets of strings . Anybody else use smaller gauges of strings on their Ricks ?

I,ve had mine for almost 14 years now. It,s great. Either Ricky sounds better now or I sound better or we play as a unit now I aint a fanboy I use a musicman,thunderbird and a p-bass they all have their thing. It works for me and has given me years of pleasure/

Here,s a piccie of mine with a pearl scratchplate which is the original one [sharedmedia=core:attachments:95583] It,s got a maple neck now as they didn,t do one at the time. It,s from a vintage musicman copy,forgot the model number but it,s a straight retrofit apart from two pilot holes for the neck screws,schaller tuners and wizard thumper pick up.

To me the musicman sub MIA is the best gigging/working bass made. Indestructable finish,no whistles ,no bells,rock solid build and does the job without any worries of dings and scratches. It even sounds great and plays a dream. I don,t mind the slab body or the scratchplate

Musicman sub-the american one s/h as they stopped making them. Some people don,t like the finish and the slab body but they are a steal. I like the finish and don,t mind the slab body.

+100 0n Wizard thumper,good set of strings and a good set up,good to go A set of schallers would be nice and a copy high mass bridge if you fancy Great pick up and responsive to volume and tone controls.

Have a go on a vintage v4-awesome for the price. Tony Butler one looks great. S/H is the way to go. Musicman sub the original one-made in USA. depends on budget I suppose and how they look.

Their great Got 2 -one on a musicman and other on a t-bird pro 4. Fabulous,still lookin for one for my Ricky.

I run my bdi gain-3 0clock presence-2 oclock bass-12 oclock treble-12 oclock blend-full on level-10 oclock OR everything the same as above but bass- 2 0clock treble-10 oclock hope this helps

Oops forgot to say I,ve fitted a maple musicman style neck from a vintage cause they didn,t do a maple neck at the time,fits like a glove .It,s a very easy mod.You get an extra fret as well and no probs with intonation.Maybe the shorter headstock helps. Great gigging bass,fabulous sound It,s got a high mass bridge,schaller tuners,wizard thumper pick up. Only other thing I would do to it is fit a hipshot d-tuner. If a decent Tony Butler come up s/h at the right price I would be on it like a rash. As stock they are great basses.

hi,just get a 4003,flick the selector to bridge pup and engage vintage push /pull switch-bingo,as close as you,ll get to a 4000. Newer 4003,s have a push/pull switch to give the 4001 circuit. You can retrofit this to older 4003,s.I,ve done this to mine which is a 99 4003.I got mine for £15 and 1/2 hour with soldering iron it was up and running.The vintage circuit kit not the bass. Switch in-4003 sound,switch out-4001 sound,pretty good trick.Two basses for the price of one or maybe 3 Necks have been fatter ,thinner over the years and body shapes have changed slightly but in essence the song remains the same. Only problem with a Ricky is-which colour If I was getting another one I would get a newer 4003 with the vintage circuit and I would struggle to pick a colour as I,ve got a jetglo. hiho,don,t worry about the weight,you can play them all night. Compared to a musicman they are light. I have noticed that they can sound toppy with the tone wide open. Roll back the tone or boost bass and cut treble on the amp and they are big sounding. The band I,m in at the moment prefer it to musicman,ricky and a thunderbird so there you go.
