1. I think I know what your after,I,ve been after one for years. Could it be like rockinbastard or summit like that. I,d love one in black with white letters. Anyone that can do one don,t be shy.
2. Hi ,check the relief on your neck.It should be pretty flat,if not refer to joeys bass notes. If that,s ok then bring up the neck pup till it starts binding on the grommets, you,ll feek some resistance on the screws.don,t force them . Next step balance the volume of the bridge pup to the neck one,you should be right now. If the pick ups go too high then you get a really crap sound, hard to describe but you,ll know what I mean. The single coil pick ups on a Rickenbacker have a different attack compared to other basses ,to my ear the note swells after you hit it. As to loudness ,it,s as loud as my musicman. If this has anything to do with it it measures 12k on a meter, neck and bridge. Try a sansamp or a behringer clone bdi21-settings- gain-2oclock presence-2oclock bass-12oclock treble-12oclock blend-full on level-9oclock amp set flat.
3. I fitted a hipshot to mine, there was no tail lift but the mute screws used to wreck my palms. I do like the look of the hipshot and have had no problems after a wrap of ptfe tape on the screws which would wind down sometimes. It will go down so low that it is unplayable. I have retrofitted the vintage circuit as well as mine is a 1999. I could have lived with it as standard but I,m happy how it is now.Maybe a hipshot d-tuner and that would be ideal. Maybe I,ve got a good one.It was picked out from the factory and flown over here for me to play a festival but that,s another story.
4. Oh it worked,I know how to do it.
5. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TZ-_9mFedWM I don,t know how to put the youtube link thingy on but here is Malignant Narcissim bass and drums isolated.
6. Hi I think I,ve got it Rickenbacker has carved a niche for itself in the instrument market.A pretty big niche by all acounts. By running the business as they do they have kept demand for their product high and kept resale values at a premium . They appear to be a small cottage industry with family values of days of yore but underneath is a business heart harder than their fretwire. They do make great instruments which appeal to some and evoque feelings bordering on hatred to others. In short they have a brand loyalty which is enviable.Never in fashion and never out. I have one myself which I,ve had for 13 years now and it,s a great bass. I hope this is what the original thread was about .
7. Hi,here,s my take on Rickenbacker 4003. I got mine in 1999 which I still have and use. I found the trick is to not recreate somebody elses sound but get one you like. 4003 ,s have a huge amount of mids which can sound muddy if your used to other basses. A good amp/combo will reap dividends. They can overpower bad speakers and amps due to the high output of the pick ups. They can sound terrible with the pick ups to high but get them balanced and everything falls into place. A bit of gain and some presence goes a long way. The attack of the single coils takes a bit of getting used to and the usual single coil punishing you for bad technique. I suppose they are like chilli,if you get the taste for it nothing else will do.
8. Hi,I,ve got myself a bass floor pod. So far only used it with headphones. I don,t use the pre sets as they are naff and haven,t played around much with them yet. I am using it in bypass mode utilising deep, comp and dialing in amp sim. So far it sounds great. Anybody like them and have you any tips to pass on. In fact any views would be appreciated whether good or bad. cheers
9. I use a brazil nut cut in half and rub it on. Learned this from an old cabinet maker, also for disguising small scratches that aren,t to deep. If you don,t polish it off enough you get a milky look but give it a buff up and it disapears. Alittle goes a long way,it,s a very oily nut.
10. I have to say NO. Having a drink after rehersal or a gig if your not driving is good but keep them seperate.Time and a place for everything. I see young bands practicing or at gigs with cans on top of amps and shudder . They normally are sharing someone elses backline as well.
11. I,ve had the mb450 head for years now apart from changing the pre amp valve I,ve had no problems at all. Great beefy amp, plenty of power. I do run it at 2 ohm with 2 4 ohm cabs. I bought this s/h.
12. Musicman SUB is a great bass and discontinued, not to be confused with the new built outside USA one. Epiphone t-bird pro iv not the standard one If you have a p-bass clone and it feels good to play maybe a Wizard thumper pick up or phone Andy at Wizard and tell him what sound your after. Vintage brand basses are pretty good out the box. A good pre-amp DI box makes basses come alive.Behringer do a good one-bdi21,get one s/h and if you don,t like it sell it on,doubt you will though and DI straight into board.
13. I have the 450 head and run two peavey 2x10" 4 ohm cabs and it,s big and loud. Peavey cabs are cheap, reliable and a wee bit heavy but last forever. You need a 4 ohm jobbie to get max power. Why not try a 4x12" ? like the VBA marshall cabs
14. Best thing since sliced bread-brilliant piece of kit.
15. A good set up and decent strings go a long way.Keep all your notes constant,ie not some louder than others or longer unless it,s for accent or dynamics. I would record 1 channel direct to board and another one with a sansamp /behringer clone and mix them together. If your stuck for tracks then sansamp /clone it. Guitars will give you the biggest headache or should I say guitar players with their scooped middle sound-all top and heavy bottom. If they heard there favourite guitar sound soloed on the board they would have a heart attack.Having said that some geetards have the savvy to understand this.I know almost right away if they do cause you can run your bass amp a lot lower volume wise cause they don,t clash with you at all. A decent pick up is good as well as long as the bass is nice to play in your hands.
16. Would be nice in black with a maple neck
17. Very happy with my roland db700 and powered extension cab, does the job no problem.Don,t hear much about them but they are fabulous and reliable. The go to rig. Discontinued now but I,ve got mine . Anyone I,ve talked to that have them all speak highly of these but tend to whisper and not shout about them.
18. Go for it,I did and mine is a cracker. Musicman style maple neck, schaller tuners, high mass bridge and a wizard thumper. Sounds and plays great.
19. SUB all the way and maybe enough for a decent rig/combo
20. Hi,glad you like it. I,ve got a 99,had it from new. I,ve fitted the vintage circuit ,hipshot bridge and have a black scratplate and a polished stainless steel one as well as the original white one. The depth of the tone is astonishing, all the bottom, mid, top and presence you will ever need. It cuts through the mix so easily. They look good ,sound good and play like a dream. Mine is jetglo as well. I set it up when I got it and have never touched it since even when changing string make and gauge. An absolute joy to play and well worth the asking price.almost 13 years old now and still get a tingle when I plug it in-what price can you put on that.
21. Time for an update on my pro iv. It has settled down now and plays like a dream. Soundwise it is great.Very versatile active circuit. No issues at all. I have moved the strap button and fitted a hipshot d-tuner. For the price it was a steal. Finish is standing up well, still like new.Nice weight as well, not heavy ,not too light. If you fancy a T-Bird then give one a try,I,m glad I did.I went to buy a Gibson and ended up with an Epi.
22. Dirty weekend with a Rick-perfect,stuff of dreams
23. Roland powered extension cabs 330 watt,15" speaker and horn with control for how much horn you want, ordinary jack and jack out to another extension or amp/combo/DI box.Does subwoofer as well. Discontinued now but very good .got the roland combo and the extension-600 watts of lovely sound.
24. You have no shame. You,ll be telling me that thunderbirds are ill balanced and ugly next
25. Do they do an active one ? I prefer a 2 band but will stretch to a 3 if that,s all there is
