  1. Just keep it simple and enjoy Don,t panic, you,ll be fine
  2. It might have been Ed King on bass but what was played is another story. I,ve played it in the past on Ricky,t-bird,musicman and a P doesn,t really matter just get the vibe.
  3. [u]Geetar players ten a penny[/u] but guitar players are a different story
  4. [attachment=126106:DSCN4071.JPG][sharedmedia=core:attachments:95583] Here,s my review of a Vintage V4 I originally bought this for sitting on a stand at home just to pick up and noodle about on when the feeling took me. It sounds loud when unplugged with a good range of tones-good start Fit and finish is good, nothing to report on that front. Hardware -all good functional stuff that works.Wilkinson stuff so it works playability-easy to set up to my taste, nice weight, balances well Sounds-sounds like a P.Quite grunty if you like it and cleans up well, volume and tone are nice and work well.Good output from the pick up and tone This review sounds very bland and there seems to be no real comments on this bass. The truth is it does the job and nothing niggles me about it.I just pick it up and play it. Now to the good bit. I was in a hurry one day to get to a practice and just grabbed it and run. I plugged it in to my giggin rig and could not believe what I heard. It,s not me cause I,ve used this in 3 bands and the comment is what a great sounding bass-everyone loves it.. For the price they are a steal.I gig this one and is still going strong. I bought this second hand for a steal. I have modified it a bit-I fitted a maple neck off a Vintage musicman copy cause they didn,t do a maple neck version at the time and it,s a straight fit apart from 2 pilot holes for the neck bolts. That was for me and it goes lovely with the black to green sunburst with the white pearl scratchplate. Overall-great bass and very underated What would I swap it for-Vintage Tony Butler signature cause I,m a sucker for the black and maple look.[attachment=126106:DSCN4071.JPG]
  5. Go and tell my Ricky that,s she,s not a beautiful she with curves if your brave enough By the way my van is called Rupert
  6. Tom Sawyer-rush Longview-Green Day
  7. [sub]Leave the strings on and saw the bottom horn off, then you can check it out.[/sub] [sub]From a technical viewpoint a lamanated design is a far superior entity.[/sub] [sub]A Les Paul is plywood-mahogany bottom with a top ply of maple-2 ply like toilet paper[/sub] [sub]Neck through designs are plywood from top to bottom.[/sub]
  8. Strip the song back to basics and go from there You don,t need solos everywhere Get back to the bones of the song loads of bands have 1 guitar, bass and drums oh and a warbler
  9. If we did everything geetarists tell us we would end as daft as them. 4 strings and get out the low down slush. Go for melodic lines and get out of the chuggin zone.
  10. I found the rythmn of the solo was more important than the actual notes for this one,I mean imagine it as a drum fill kinda thing on bass.Like diddly dah, diddly dah if you get what I mean Oh it,s hard to describe music with words. I,m sure there is isolated tracks on youtube for this. It,s really just a runaround in G. Hope this helps
  11. Better on the floor as you have the pre-amp and the mid scoopy thing as well, two stompers if that makes sense. Great pedal, decent DI good for recording and just bang it in the front of amp.
  12. I would get a pre amp pedal saves a lot of work
  13. I use 2 2x10 peavey cabs and sounds great and loud. You haven,t got the boost button on have you ?
  14. Peavey 2x10 cabs TX,TVX,PRO series all good and cheap, reliable cabs that keep going. Had my tx 2x10,s for years and were second hand when I got them.
  15. Less is more, set it flat ie 12 oclock everything apart from master volume and go from there, might need to cut bass back a bit to get the mids in. Boosting bass n treble has the effect of overpowering the mids almost like scooping them-try cutting them instead of boosting it should be quieter so allowing you to turn up master volume. It sounds like the speakers are getting pushed very hard. Try putting the input on active which will cut your incoming signal,it will cut the volume.might help. MB 450-gain and volume 12 oclock zero the bass, treble and mid voice, introduce a bit of bass, then a bit of treble till your happy, start on voice 1 put a bit on ,try voice 2 if you want it more clanky voice 3. If it gets distorted pull back the gain a bit and turn up the channel volume a bit. A little EQ goes a long way. I use 2 2x10 cabs and have all the bottom end you could need, bass usually is about 10 0clock,treble 12 oclock, voice to suit bass usually about 9 oclock
  16. Same neck as pro 4,same as gibson near enough as to make no difference. Almost jazz like with less taper, great neck. Not neck divey at all with decent strap and not as heavy as you would think. ity they don,t do one in black.
  17. Saab 9/3 hatchback with a 2.2 diesel and 160,000 miles on it. Massive boot and huge with seats down or split the rear seats. Good on fuel and comfy seats, got mine cheap as chips due to mileage. Next one will be Saab 9/5 estate in diesel but wont be for a good few years. A good tip I got was park next to a bmw or suchlike and your chances of it getting stolen are considerably reduced. Volvo is good as well,.V70 with the D5 engine would be good.
  18. Hi-mb 450 has gain and volume on the classic pre amp Gain trims the signal to the valve, more gain the more signal to the valve allowing it to break up Volume trims the signal to the power stage of the amp. master volume adjusts the overall volume. It,a a balancing act make sure the boost button is off check out sticky on gain, volume, volume a confusing menage a trois. I have marshall and hartke amps and they can go clean to dirty and everywhere inbetween. Hope this helps.
  19. I must agree their customer service is top notch. Single screw one sounds like the gotoh replacement ones. Send them an e-mail and they will advise. I,ve got 2 of my basses fitted with them-excellent.
  20. Tried one yesterday-Dawsons Liverpool. White one and sunburst. Feels the same as my pro 4 but lighter not by much though. Neck feels identical, set up not bad out the box, makes a change Sound-not bad at all,no mud, might be better with good strings. I,ll stick with my pro4,better bridge, love the black.Sunburst was nice for a sunburst but I don,t like sunburst. If they made a black one I could be tempted. For the price it,s pretty good but for me the pro4 shades it. Getting scarily close to the real thing and at a gig I don,t think anyone could tell the difference apart from the name.
  21. I got a behringer one to see if I liked it before shelling out on the sansamp and have never got round to getting the sansamp. It has lasted well and works a treat Hartke vxl is a different animal but is good as well. The chrome knobs are hard to see when gigging. The mid scoop thingy is good but I tend to use the bdi21 cause it,s easy to use-plug in and play.
  22. Legacy-8 squid a throw
  23. Love the bdi21 had it for years and keep going back to it.Makes any bass sound good. start putting my fire retardant suit on
  24. Don,t forget Vintage,I got a V4 for a beater bass and gig it quiet a lot and everyone says how good it sounds. I did get it S/H for a song and have modded it quiet a bit but even as standard it was a good bass. Now it is killer P-bass,it,s got a wizard thumper in it now. Ampwise an older roland like a 210 or a db700 will do the trick, they kick out a healthy amount of loud with a good tone and have a good compresser on board. Had mine for 10 years now and never missed a beat,Add the 115x extension cab and just enjoy yourself. A decent pedal tuner is a good thing to have as well as a bdi21 which will double as a DI box-ready to go.
