Dial back the tone control Eq will be different try cutting top end on amp and up volume to compensate. Pick up height as well, mind when you lower it the volume will need to tweaked up a bit.

I,ve got one and for the price it,s a good gigging bass. Had it for a few years now and still going strong.

Talk To Me About Musicman Basses Please.......
bassmachine2112 replied to bagsieblue's topic in General Discussion
I,ve got a 2003 EBMM Musicman SUB the USA one and it is fabulous. I tried it back to back with a Classic Stingray and there was no difference, both slab bodied and 2 band. If you like the looks then get one ,I like the cosmetics although I have changed the scratchplate to a black one, carbon fibre and fitted a d-tuner. Played it for years and worn through the paint on the neck a bit in places-reliced ?.Bullet proof finish for gigging Up to yerself what way you go-S/H is the way to go. The active circuit is savage coming from a passive but it,s handy playing live you can cut as well as boost. -
I,ve got them and there fine No complaints

Hiho,if your after the classic Rick sound stick a bdi21 in front of the amp, good dollop of drive bit of presence. Easy as that.

Downsizing considerably. (Orange Terror and SP range question)
bassmachine2112 replied to cocco's topic in Amps and Cabs
Can someone help out this poor soul. Since I got my OBT 500 and SP212 cab I,ve been in heaven. Everything sounds great through it and I didn,t have crap amps before I got it. I want another sp212 cab cause it would be cool, might not plug it in -whit going louder . Kidding course it would be plugged in. I,m not suffering from shortage of volume by the way either and loving the small size and portability. The new ones are fixed now-hot DI,hot Gain, -
cab advice...what to go for, a 12 or a 210...for now

I,ve got a terror and sp212 cab. Terror head is loud I like the cab as well and tried other cabs with the terror head and other heads with the cab. Have a look at guitar interactive, there,s an older issue with a video review of the head and cab. It was the older one with the on/off gain and red hot DI. It,s now been fixed as I,ve got one. You,ll hear how it sounds, didn,t sound muddy to me and doesn,t sound muddy live either when I,m playing it. It doesn,t cut through but bulldozes through with big volume and plenty of headroom. Remember the terror will bung out 500 watt at 4 and 8 ohm if your ears can handle it. -
Is this the best version of ashes to ashes ? ? ?

That,s the best one for me as well Great musicman sound and great playing all round. -
Save cash and get a SUB the ebmm one. I tried a classic when buying amp and cabinet and took my SUB along and the guy in the shop was shocked how identical they sounded. Close enough for me and I,ve had for 10 years. Bargain

Any gunsmith will do this as well, cabinet maker Happens all the time, wooden gunstocks and forends-wood is wood If you feel confident do it yourself.iron, soldering iron, wet chamois Rash a piece of wood and have a practice yourself to get confident,it,s not hard

Possibly the best punk basslines ever?
bassmachine2112 replied to jmchich's topic in General Discussion
Is Mike Dirnt worth a punch in the nads It,s like anything -evolution but the message is the same-we,ll make our own minds up after consideration, not what you tell us. Punk is still alive even though we listen to other things now What about Gaye Advert -
Lack of dealers doesn,t help. Not the easiest basses to try out and look at doesn,t help.

All comes down to how much you want to spend. I,m surprised as well that there isn,t half a novel been posted so I,ll start. Orange terror bass 500 or 1000,volume isn,t a problem.Small and lightweight,I use the sp212 cab but use any cab you fancy An old Roland combo that they don,t make anymore,I,ve got a db700 and it,s loud and fabulous sounding but needs PA support for some gigs. Loadsa makes that all have their fans. Good S/H gear keeps the budget happy or you can get top notch kit for less outlay. No doubt others will weigh in soon

Possibly the best punk basslines ever?
bassmachine2112 replied to jmchich's topic in General Discussion
Bruce Foxton anybody. From the beginning-In The City and onwards That geezer from Ian Dury and the Blockheads Does the guy from the Attractions qualify, suppose new wave is a bit out of bounds for this one. There was some good players about then as there is now. JJ had some great moments as well, what about the beginning of Peaches. Basss players were allowed to be right up there in the mix as well with a nice clanky sound unlike the psuedo keyboard basss sound nowadays or is it the producers that are to blame. Even the telly broadcasts do this they squeeze and compress all the goodness out and shove the bass into a corner with no dynamics allowed, just watch any broadcast. Maybe there is a technical reason why. Oops strayed a bit there,my apologies -
Legacy-£8 a throw 40-100 and other guages. Sound fine ,last fine. There was a post a while ago and someone had found rotosound QC sticker things inside the packet. Any decent make will be fine at the right price. Got a soft spot for elites though, the stainless ones
-
At that price someones having a laugh n it aint me

Thomann has got them in creme or cream even like an white one that,s faded and yellowed. Black with maple neck would be good

I played an open air festival yesterday with my Orange terror and sp212 cab, plenty loud. I was DI out the amp-no problem with DI,the DI has been sorted on the newer ones and the on /off gain as well. The sound through the PA was incredible-singing is the closest I can describe it. I played a gig last night as well and left everything the same without PA support this time and just bludgeoned it,s way through the mix. That,s what I love about this set up,it doesn,t cut through, just muscles it,s way through or it could be the frequencies plug all the gaps. Forgetting all the physics and theory about SPL,s and R2D2,s,3CPO,s-it works where it counts-on the stage

I,ve got a thumper in my Vintagestein P-bass and I like it. Phone Andy and have a talk with him he,s good at advice and does custom winds.

[sub]Add Vintage V4 to the list.[/sub] [sub]I gig mine regularly, simple no fuss plug in and play ,good build and finish, lasting well on the road,no issues with it.[/sub] [sub]I have mucked around with it but as standard it was a good bass[/sub] [sub]Very underated piece of kit.A good honest workhorse and good price second hand.I,ve had it for almost 5 years and it was second hand.[/sub]
-
They are great and nothing like strapping yourself in and going on stage to gig. I,ve got a 1999 one and the finish is incredible and the sound. I did replace the bridge and I did put the vintage circuit in as well. Looking for a d-tuner now. One pair of shoes don,t fit everybody

NBD: EBMM SUB, "wine vomit" purple. May re-spray?
bassmachine2112 replied to mcnach's topic in Bass Guitars
Great bass by the way,I,ve had mine since 03 from new. Bullet proof finish,I haven,t scratched or dinged it yet, perfect gigging bass. Finish is funny cause mine can sparkle sometimes and take on hues from lights like a flip flop finish. I, d leave it alone and just play it.
