  1. Oh lordy! That’s some bloody lovely work right there! What bass bash will this be attending in 2020?!
  2. I have yet to play a P better than my JV 😁
  3. I like the shapes there - very different!
  4. Ooh, you sneaky devil! We need a NBD thread now.
  5. Maybe they’ll be like the Musicman range - all roastie necks and contoured heels. Or maybe they’ll Ibanez them up to appeal to all the rockers. That’s what the vid sounds like anyway!
  6. Ola. I bought a little Focusrite mic interface thingy for an iPhone from Andy - top bloke! He kept me up to date about postage, item was completely unused still in its wrapper! Now I can make some bass vids with really good sound quality! Thanks Andy!
  7. Agreed on both counts, @Cuzzie! For now I’m getting the fit sorted, finish will be after I know all the bits slot together nicely! The bridge pickup is in now, but the p-position needs further adjustment. I might even end up giving a router a try to make it look clean. Pretty sure I used one in my dad’s workshop once, but that was literally half a lifetime ago! I like the carbon paint method, so I will be getting some soon.
  8. Turns out standard bushings are the correct internal diameter for these Grover machine’s external dimensions, so I should be able to stack them. We’ll see how that theory stacks up when the bushings arrive! I have now expanded the existing pickup routes to accept my cheapie Ricky pickups, using drill bits and a chisel. It’s not the neatest job, but I they will be covered by the new scratch plate and pickup surrounds, so all is well. I had to tack on three little bits of wood to the end side I f the original route to take the pickup surround mounting screws. Again, it ain’t pretty but it does the job.
  9. Nah, I think it’s just an optical illusion - they are that small on a Toby bass I lent out (and hope to get back some day!).
  10. The difference is beyond that here - shafts are 14mm, holes are 18mm!
  11. I have a Perspex strat copy from the 70’s - also stupid heavy!
  12. Ola peeps! Family commitments have stopped progress this week, but I have a chisel waiting for me when I get home, so will crack on this eve! I need some hive mind input - I bought a nice set of tuners from @TheGreek to put on this bass, but I forgot to take in to account the shaft/hole discrepancy. Anyone know where I’d get some adapter ferrules from?
  13. Bought some tuners off Mick - lovely bloke, smooth transaction - one of the pillars of the Basschat community! Thanks!
  14. Walson. Gibbal. Sounds like an actual person!
  15. I’m not that bothered about their music, but if they can make a living from it, I’m happy for them. I’m just trying to be positive, man!
  16. Love that finish! I prefer simple looking basses. They match me then.
  17. If the patch bay goes up top it will be next to other wires poking out of the mixer, so it’s more in keeping I guess! In front you can’t get to wiggle the faders about as easily.
  18. The performance of the band was lackluster (apart from the singer), but they have a record out and are on telly and I’ve heard them on radio 6 twice today, so they must be doing something right 🤪
  19. I thought she was a good showman/woman/non-binary entity with an energetic song. The rest of the band looked like they were bricking it! I suppose if they’ve gone from 0 to TV in a very short space of time, they would be unpolished and scared! And at the end of the day, they are on TV and radio and I am not, so hats off to them!

The headstock looks like someone set fire to a bit of driftwood, then went mental with Quality Street wrappers, then decided to make a guitar. Mental.
  21. I could just get a Talman plate, but man that stack knob jag looks the business! In an unknown preemptive move, I’d already ordered a stack knob configuration loom from @KiOgon. I think I need to get a jazz plate and gouge out more wood to match. Let’s hope my chiseling skills are up to it...
  22. Whilst I’m waiting for other bits to turn up, I thought I’d make a start on the scratch plate. I think this will take the longest to do, as I am quite particular about lines - they have to flow organically and follow the body. The routes for the Talman are weird. I don’t think I can resolve the lines without further alteration to the Jack socket route. Then I saw this picture of a stack knob jag...
  23. I spent ages lining up the bridge pickup surround in relation to the bridge. Unfortunately there is a slight gap top & bottom, but I’ll sort it out somehow at a later date. I then lined the neck pickup surround between the bridge pickup and neck. I used a forsner (?) bit as per @Andyjr1515’s bulk removal method. I tidied up a bit with a Stanley knife. I was going to borrow a router to clean it up, and also sort the bridge pickup widening, but I think I’ll buy a nice chisel and do it by hand instead. Popped the pickups in to see what they looked like - I’m quite happy with the way this is evolving!
  24. Ooh, I’ve had fun with this tonight! I decided to assemble the parts first, then when I’m happy with it, pull it apart and do the neck refinish, possibly the body too. First up - get the neck on so I can line everything else up properly. I had to sand the inner edges of the neck pocket, as although the shape is luckily a perfect match, it was too tight to fit in. The neck ferrules I got off eBay were a bit small, and not quite high enough, so I popped some washers underneath to bring them flush with the body surface. Neck on! I used a straight bit of wood to held tightly against the neck edges to draw lines on the body. This got the bridge nicely lined up. Bridge on!
  25. Some idiot started throwing coins at the saxophonist at a gig once. Her husband is the trombone player, so hilarity ensued, then we all helped turf the offending idiot out.
