All put together. Sounds loud and deep as hell, but still a little muddy around 200hz. Sounds like many other bass cabs I’ve heard though. Maybe my tastes are a little different. I don’t go for the super flubby bottom end - I like clean and tight. Actually prefer the sound of the Beyma in the Peterson box as-is! I see a twin 8” build in the future…

Just sketched out something that will be equal to two 1x8s stacked on landscape. Me likey. I was just going to make it with those dimensions and put two ports in. I would welcome your input though @Phil Starr!

Did anybody proceed with a 2x8 version? Not even finished my 12” and already getting the measuring tape out for another build!

2 internal braces fitted - 1 diagonally across the back panel, the other diagonally across the baffle between the port and the driver. A silly idea perhaps, but it seemed to reduce the resonance tapping the panels. Stuck some random shaped bits of dead sheet to all panels except the baffle. That helped a bit too. Then painted the inside with PVA and stuck wadding in. Knocking on the cab is noticeably quieter. Hopefully the sum of my efforts will result in a clearer sounding cab! Will pop the driver in tomorrow evening to find out…

Got the box together, put the driver in to see how it sounds. Disappointing! Loud as hell, but very bass-heavy to the point of woolly. But that’s ok, as there is still work to do (aside from making it pretty) 1. The port was bought, and is a cm or two short. I will extend it with something suitable. 2. I will also stick wadding to the inside (I’m sure I can hear a difference). 3. I think some additional bracing would help, too. There’s just about space to put one on the baffle between the driver and port at a 45 degree angle. 4. I also have a bit of tecsound deadening material left over from the studio to stick to the back panel. I didn’t fancy a normal backplate (why make life easy for myself?) so I recessed the Speakon. Quite like it. The top-mounted handle is a bit big, or the feet I bought for the amp are a bit short. Will have to purchase bigger feet.

Back on the cab after a break. Used the router to cut the baffle hole. Not sure if this is how other people use these things, but it worked! Drilled a hole for a nice fat screw to go in to a block of scrap wood, clamped in to the workmate. Spaced from the workmate with strips of scrap ply. Baffle clamped to the workmate so nothing could move. Nice clean round hole!

Right. Got my numbers for tonight’s lottery, and picked out my spec on the mar… maroosh… public peace configurator: £2.5k! Looks damn fine though!

I’ve tried the lower powered rumbles in music shops across the land - they are all disappointing! I I’ve heard the 100w+ the rumbles sound ok, but I have no personal experience of them.

There will probably be a fair few secondhand practice amps in your locality. Most of them will do the job until she wants to get a gig rig.

Chucking new stuff in a skip should be a criminal offence. Felt bad skipping a 20yr old tumble dryer today that I’ve already fixed twice in the past.

Drums don’t tend to sound great through guitar or bass amps, due to their limited frequency range. You’d be best off with a full range cab for that purpose.
