Some powerful horns in this too, not exactly funk, more fusion, but nice feel and super, interactive drumming. I don't think theyre that well known, British (mostly) too. I doubt an eyebrow would be raised if this solo were being played on a sax (ok, except the chord bits!, but you know what I mean...) Jazz sax and trumpet players do this sort of thing all the time, and you don't hear accusations of w*nking being thrown about there, so why because it's on a bass?

Lefty playing righty. Started on the violin, and I don't think there was ever a left handed option. My mum plays the fiddly righty and she's a lefty too. I play drums set up right too, though I did slightly favour my left foot for bass drum, but figured it would be easier if I ever wanted to kit share, but I've never got good enough to play drums in public for that to arise!

Last time I got a bonus I bought a s/h Sei Flamboyant and a Spa day and night for the Mrs. at the Vineyard in Stockcross. I think I wasted the £2.50 I had left.....

It may not be the speakers at all, it could be a dry joint on some component in the power stage getting the 'ump as it passes more current, or even one of the big caps in the psu if they're board mounted. I've actually had this in a Sessionette bass combo - took a bit of tracking down.

The FretKing looks like a Firebird that might just balance properly. I like what they've done there. I love the Yamahas too, As rightly stated, a bit bonkers, in a totally good way1

Mwah is much more to do with how you set the action up than the pickups. I've got Kent Armstrog soapbars in mine and it sounds nice to me. My old fretless had cheap EMG Selects (j's) in it, and I thought they were very good too.

All help much appreciated guys, Dave[/quote] I've done a defretted neck without a radius block, just fine grade (600?) paper and a flat hand block(cork). Working lengthways it seemed to follow the radius fine, and the paper isn't really removing any meat, just the high spots where I had filled the fret slots with woodfiller. While you're at it, you can roll the fretboard edges to make the neck really comfy. I put some Tru-oil on the board and flatted that down with very fine paper, slightly damp, and that gives a very nice satin sheen that looks remarkably similar to the factory finish on my US Masters bass neck.

I use a (lined) fretless exclusively in one band - its sort of acoustic rock, 3 piece so there is quite a bit of "space", even more so before we got a drummer, and I feel the sound is more expressive in this scenario than fretted. The vibrato sounds more mellifluous than fretted, it seems to sit with the material nicer.

What are you expecting?[/quote] Ampeg haven't "been away" and got revived, their USP is "classic Ampeg sound" When HH arrived they did have something that set them apart from contemorary offerings - EL backlit panels (which I still think are cool) and extruded ally panels and rack handles. I don't see much in that current range that sets them apart, that's all, I guess that's what I was expecting.

I don't see any innovation, what is the USP?
