1. I really like the shape of Shuker's Uberhorn basses. I realise it isn't to everyone's taste, but to me it looks like a jazz bass from the 22nd century that has evolved into a faster, sleeker beast. I think it makes "traditional" shaped basses look lumpen by comparison.
2.
Actually that's not "it in cherry", that's a Dolphin SN which is entirely different. The Pro 1 is upmarket of the SN (SN is setneck, no markers, chambered body, Pro 1 is through-neck, dolphin markers amongst other things). FWIW I've had 2 Dolphin Pro1s, a '91 and a '96, and the '91 was miles better than the '96 so I imagine this should be great.
Well that told 'em! I've always loved those Dolphins, such an original shape. I'd love this, but I value my knackers too much!
3. Our guitarist had an Add-on microphone thing for his Ipod which worked quite well. Might be a cheaper route if you already have the pod....
4. Does anyone else on this thread find Genz's mid scoop button a complete waste of time? The bass and treb buttons have their use, but the mid seems really ill-conceived/implemented, I find it just sucks the life from the tone and makes the whole level appear to drop. I like everything else about it. Anyone agree/disagree?
5. I'm in a couple of bands: one is a duo with drums (rarely, as they both live abroad) I really like the material, but the writer hasn't written anything new for a couple of years, and we don't play live all that often. The other is a three-piece rock and acoustic outfit, the writer writes new stuff all the time and gets slightly more gigs than the other, but I don't like all the material as much. I play in this band to keep my hand in, it's not ideal, but it keeps me playing. If someting better comes along, I should be up to pace, it works for me.
6. That looks really comfortable. I would have made the headstock less bulbous, almost tapered.
7. Deffo interested to see how the Midget compares! I'm sure many on here feel the same.
8. Jack basses have a soft maple body, and that's quite light.
9. That seems a good price! I thought these went for more than than normally. Not at all common these days.
10. That looks a decent bit of wood for a budget instrument. No reason that shouldn't sound fine. Nice job!
11.
Awesome - looks good enough to eat!
Fish (tail) on Friday! Yum!
12.
Agreed Tangerine Dream?
I used to use TD's Phaedra to get my nephew off to sleep in a darkened room when he wouldn't sleep. He was about 2 at the time, and it was the only thing that worked. I swapped it for Carmina Burana (sp?)
13. Bebel Gilberto, gently tickles your ears.
14. Hi I got a Spector Classic 5 string for £220 (s/h) and was really surprised how authoritative it sounds, has amazing sustain and a versatile 3 band eq. I could quite easily use it as my sole bass, despite having several more expensive basses. It even looks pretty too (not sure how important that is for the kind of music you like though!)
15. I doubt there is anything in a Trace Head that CAN'T be fixed by a competant tech.
16.
Not sure what to write about it. Guitar amp that works fine which I have never used. Couldn't tell you if its a good one or not. offers email - [email protected] tel - 07753318998
Not sure if many people will go for this sort of "hard sell"
17. Sort your spelling out, you Muppet!
18.
Hmmm thanks for that. I think I'll go for a darker colour than the current white for sure.
Yeah, I,ve filled a rosewood board with a fairly dark filler and it looks nice. Trouble is, under poor lighting, they do kind of disappear, but it still is enough to guide you in good lighting. I went for black in my current bass (on Pau Ferro board), and I think it looks really nice. From a distance it looks unlined, which is cool.
19. Could be the truss rod is still slightly loose. Try rapping on the back of the neck with your knuckles and see if there is any sort of a rattle, you may need to take up some slack still more. I've seen this on an acoustic guitar before, and on my blue Masters bass. It has a pretty stiff neck (grapite rod reinforced), and doesn't need much tension to give the right relief.
20. Am I the only person on BassChat to think this is an incredibly thin premise for a "signature" bass?
21. Hi Folks My psyche/folk/pop duo is playing again, alongside Maria Illett (Ninestone Cowboy) and Welcome to Peepworld (International Jetsetters side project) and one other act. Expect acoustic sounds and a mellow vibe. Be great to see any basschatters there! Cheers Jules
22. Ok, I posted in this section ages ago, but applying the rule "no picture, no bass(es), g.t.f.o.", here they are, U.S. Masters EP42s, though the Lacewood one has had the neck replaced with a black lined fretless one. The original neck is something else though (birdseye), eh? These are both very early ones, #61 and #101
23.
I went to the Tewkesbury Beer Festival once. Only had 4 pints all night, although they were all 9-11 proof alcohol, felt absolutely fine. Invited a couple of friends back for a nightcap, after which, my dear wife took them home and I went to bed. Next day, I turned the computer on, and found that in the middle of the night I had got up, obviously hideously more drunk than I thought I was, turned on the computer, logged on to EBay USA and bought/paid for a new saxophone, an instrument I had never ever considered buying and had no desire for!!! To this day, I have no recollection whatsoever of the transaction, but it was me alright! Sold it the day it arrived to one of the guys who had been at the beer festival with me......
With all the basses you've had Bob, I find it amazing that you didn't buy another bass when you were in that state!
24. hmm. I thought it was a long shot. Oh well, at least i tried. Maybe if they'd just asked for a Pro standard Bass Rig there might have been a taker or two.
