  1. oh gosh yes. 'Do you need a stepladder to play it?' These are the people that think a Bass is the bottom 4 strings of a guitar and you use it for doubling the main riff and 3TSB is as radical as you're allowed to get. Ok dudes. Have you seen the video clips of either elegantly coiffed European dude playing Bach or Paganini on guitar, or a woman playing (well, anything?) ''No feeling man.' 'Too many notes.' 'She's only got attention because she's pretty. etc.' *shameful*
  2. On the one hand - why does it take Tool so long to write their albums!! On the other hand - if they put out one album every 3 years say (let's be kind) - would the quality be as good? JC makes some very lovely noise, I do like the hypnotic weave of Lateralus - and as someone posted further up, Danny Carey is an amazing drummer. I agree that, like most bands I really like, there are some songs that are meh, or noise (literally noise!), but there are plenty of Wow tracks. I tend to have playlists of my favourite bands on Spotify anyway: my Rush list is 100 songs, Iron Maiden about 70... so now I can halve the Tool albums and make a decent playlist.
  3. This escalated quickly! I think TB is very helpful if you know what you're looking for and can avoid getting into long conversations about the best way to sell a bass or the relative merits of craigslist or the more exacting threads where the precise angle of a decal screams Fake because only you know how to spot one etc. Obvs there is a large quota of privileged young men who happen to play bass, and an even smaller subset of incels who are just there to cause trouble but also like a good P Bass. If you can hop through several dozen threads without reading: 'Jaco only needed 4!' or 'there's no money above the 5th fret!' unironically - then you aren't actually on TB and it's all a fever dream.
  4. Free giant chips here, come on down! You just need a ladder to reach the server's shoulder!
  5. Yep, Dingwall even do a hot rod striped Z2 signature for him, as well as regular signature Zs. He and Tony Levin will still be sessioning happily in another 50 years. Not sure they’ll outlast Keef though...
  6. What a cracking colour combo!
  7. Very cool - he's a top guy. Wait a minute - you two are on holiday?! Was this leave of absence from regular posting authorised? I think there ought to be a rota or something... I dunno...
  8. Yeah - some stuff is posted on FB and then updated with SOLD within a few hours. Sometimes it might take a day, in which time the picture has made it to FB, but it's barely rested on the shop floor before being shipped out.
  9. I find TB to be a slightly more big-headed version of here. You can find a lot (and very specific) information on any fx, amp, bass etc. you need - but for every actual expert who designed the thing posting some useful info, there are a dozen 'well I know how it really works' experts. Just ignore them! I do like that it's big enough and influential enough for manufacturers to appear: Sheldon Dingwall, Jim from Bergantino, all the Source Audio people, Doug from Darkglass etc. they are unfailingly polite and helpful. You can also get a far greater sample of reviews on any piece of equipment. There's also some good humour on there too - it only gets a bit silly, imho, on the 'how much is this bass worth? my neighbour's had it in his loft since '68,' threads, or the wall of pseudo-science that pervades the amplifier and speaker cab threads (oh no, that's not what dispersion does...)
  10. Shimverb by err Mooer? Or similar. £20 on ebay often.
  11. oooh. What's the giant green unit betwixt the C4 and the DG pedal?
  12. You could put some pillows on the floor below the workmate gap?
  13. Yeah, tax reasons in play here. Poor taste to do it like this too. People built these, and their work is being mocked.
  14. Yeah, colour me surprised! still, sounds ace though...
  15. I like that Music Map - very clever. I nominate The Tragically Hip and Rheostatics as new music for you.
  16. Looks nice. Shiny and heftful - what's not to like!
  17. There's a Bass Collection version on the Sims new shiny website. It's £325...
  18. Ironically ; the perfect layout would be the Pro pedals they used to do with 6 presets in 3 switches. Even the series 2? had 4 presets in 2 switches. But then they had a lot of dials for tweaking and they're an odd size.
  19. He does make some awesome noises - probably why SA hired him (he's also a whizz with the midi and editing lark and is very helpful (as all SA people are) if you have a query on TalkBass (boo, hiss!). It does look like a very fancy noise machine. I could cope with editing on the phone - not sure I have time and patience for setting up midi scenes and all that hub lark.

    Boss SY-1

I watched the video with the 2 guys who thought they were funny and swore a lot. I watched bits of a couple of other videos, all of which did have some cool sounds. It looks very good indeed - like you say though there is a tricky gap between not wanting the hassle of midi and deep editing but needing to recall decent sounds without too much hassle - to get it all in the right sized box.
  21. He’s even standing at the right angle!
  22. Hmm - you do have a point. Perhaps some of it is the 'they're too big to fail, they can take it,' thing. However - partly it's the method. When you have angry videos and threats it puts the back up of users. If all they want to do is say mine, mine and keep their designs then they will find their customer base shrinking. I know plenty don't like change, but they are a dying breed because soon no one will remember a pre-CBS fender or a 70s Gibson because it will be 2055 and there will only be 39 copies in museums or private collectors' hands.
  23. I am not sure it's that simple. Dingwall pay a license for every bass sold to the Novax family for the fan fret design. Perhaps they did ask Gibson if they could license the T-Bird design? Perhaps the original design was to their mind far enough different to be ok? I am not sold on the redesign, but that's partly because my brain is used to the old one. If the redesign had come out first I'm sure it would have been met with acclaim too. I don't see what Gibson are so mad about - Dingwall have taken a shape, and made a better bass. Would all of the D-Bird buyers have bought a T-Bird if there was no other option? I doubt it. Gibson ought to be asking Dingwall how they made it better and apply that to their own design, instead of churning out the same sub-par rubbish with a massive price tag and saying 'It's iconic.'
  24. Yeah coz they're all here to buy YYZ pedals!! /snark
  25. Just seen the D-Roc. Hmmm. Interesting. Bit like the new Sandberg shapes, might take time to get used to the look.
