There was a big difference between the Sonic and the Vista Sonic: scale length, pick up numbers, toneselector, body, Weight, machine heads, quality. Basically no comparison whatsoever.

Finally got rid of the awful pointy headstock, just need to to follow suit on the other models.

Do you have to buy a new one? At this price range you are going to get the lowest common denominator, poor quality pickups, frets, tuners. You would fair better with a second hand bass of better quality for similar money. Why not look on here at what’s being offered.

I agree about the Squier and Bass Collection ( if you don’t mind the weird headstock). The Gibson EB both the 2013 & 2017 versions are really light at about 3.5kg but may be a tad over budget, but really good rock sound from humbuckers.

Try La Bella low tension flats. They are a lot thinner than conventional flags that tend to need the nut slots widened before fitting. The low tensions are pretty much similar to rounds and therefore fit as straight replacements. They have a good traditional thump sound which should suit. I love the look of your Doosey by the way, wish I could justify the investment.

I’ve never played one, more the pity. Always been a bit wary of them for 3 reasons. 1 short scale. I have owned s/s basses, but not wild about them. 2 neck dive. I assume they’d be neck heavy as the have such a light body. 3 string spacing. I play finger style and the strings look really close together whereas I used to 19mm spacing. However I could really use a lighter weight these days and something really appeals about the violin shape. So can anyone dispel my fears about them.

That looks like the old Harmony guitar which I think Keith Richards used in the early days.

Would someone like to explain what’s new about this series? Looks like the same old stuff they have been making for years! Shouldn’t 50’s, 60’s and 70’s Precision’s and Jazzes have bridge covers and pickup bridges?

Yuk to pink. The surf green is nice but the dark brown headstock is grim! IMO. Definitely don’t like the etched logo either, a brass inlay would have looked classy.

I wonder when it was restrung all those years ago whether someone just bought a string but not the right scale length. A long scale string on a short scale neck would be pretty floppy.

Good one @gs_triumph . All Four Seasons songs had really strong backings. The original band were great musicians but not such good car thieves, so they ended up having forced absences from the band. In one of their TV appearances the bassist is wielding a Gibson Thunderbird. Not a bass I would have associated with their style. Probably had done deal with Gibson.
