  1. I play in my church most weeks. Sometimes on 5 string if there’s going to be songs in Eb or Bb. Otherwise I find the 4 string basses including a FendervP suffice. My 5 string is the Gibson EB5, passive humbuckers with pull pots to change them to single coil”Jazz” type. I got mine for a price within your budget. I used to also use a Spector Spectorcore 5 which was 35in scale and that additionally had a piezo in the bridge offering a very different palate.
  2. The statement in the ad about “quality” might be open to challenge!
  3. If they could see me now - Shirley MacLaine (from Sweet Charity)
  4. There ain’t nobody here but us chickens - Louis Primo.
  5. Smoke gets in your eyes - The Platters (Bow ties like this should make a come back).
  6. Shake, rattle and roll. Bill Haley & the Comets. (Now no standing on the bass please gents & ladies)
  7. Check out Norbert Putnam, long term bassist at the Mussel shoals studio. Have a listen to “ A trip in the country “ by Area Code 615. It’s the Mussel Shoals guys playing some great country.
  8. Rick Danko of the band. Fretless with a plectrum, love the Ampeg bass!
  9. Blackstar headphone amp into Sony headphones (cheap but effective). Also have a little Hartke 150 practice amp that does the job. Then it’s any of my basses that I fancy.
  10. Just got back from seeing Track Dogs, very entertaining. Bassist had a very battered Fender Jazz with the TV logo so probably 70’s, in gold finish which was turning green. Anyone know if this is a common occurrence with metallic gold finishes?
  11. This is so true @Nice Guy Rich. If you offering praise to the King of the Universe, it needs to be the best you can possibly play/sing. As an aside, it’s really difficult for a congregation to get a lead from badly played music. I remember one time when a music group was endeavouring to play “Indescribable” but really weren’t getting close and someone said it was more like “Unrecognisable “. I hasten to add I was not in that band.
  12. Ain’t nobody here but us chickens- Louis Primo
  13. I suppose the bonus here is you can oil your chopping board too!
  14. Bit hard on poor Jools! You have to admit though he has a fantastic band, they are all ace musicians. Seen them live loads of times and it’s always entertaining.
