I’ve owned 2 USA Fender Ps and a Jazz, all sold and currently have a Mex P. I can’t tell the difference except the neck is on the Mex P is more like a Jazz. I like them but I don’t think they are particularly different to other basses.

I think you’re right. I had a 76 Precision which had an accident and took off part of the front part of the headstock. It split along the grain and was easily stuck back. But supposing this happened on a tour ( the schedules back then were torturous) no opportunity to get it to a luthier or even get to a shop for some wood glue. May also explain why he switched to the Gibson bass or that might have just been following the fashion for semis in the 60s.

There are photos and videos on YouTube with the headstock in tact and modded. Then he has a white P bass and then switches to a natural finish Gibson EB2.

I have a NS NXT which is passive and to listen through headphones I use a Blackstar Headphone amp. I believe the later models are now active so may be ok to plug in the headphones direct.

Whilst there do seem to be a lot of optimistically priced guitars on Reverb, I’ve bought 2 on it at good prices both from private sellers who were excellent to deal with. The site is just another business so who owns it probably won’t make a jot of difference.

You’d think for an instrument that they want that much for that there was a better marketplace than eBay. If it’s really worth that sort of money, which I doubt, then it’s a museum piece, somewhere like the Rock n Roll hall of fame or Hard Rock Cafe.

If your’re happy in short scale but want wider string spacing then the. Gibson EB2/ Epiphone Rivoli semis are precisely that. Admittedly the originals are rather pricey but Epi did a reissue that sell 2nd hand for reasonable money. They have the thump in bucket loads.
