  1. The Big Three and the Peddlers . Latter may be difficult- no guitarist!
  2. Whilst Thunderbirds are generally considered to be a bass of the Rock idiom, it wasn’t always so. Check out on YouTube the Four Seasons and guess what they’re playing, firebirds and thunderbirds! Not really rock. Also if you saw the recent documentary on the Everley Brothers, one of the clips shows their bassist playing, yes you’ve guessed it,a Thunderbird. Not very rock.
  3. How do you decide which to play?
  4. Great looking bass, always loved these but I suspect it may be a tad too heavy for my aching shoulder. Could you put the weight on for this and your ‘51 please?
  5. So Fame is Mayones, never knew that. Always avoided them thinking they were some duff afar Eastern brand. You’d think someone in marketing would think of a better name. It’s the same with Bacchus, good brand but to have a subsidiary brand called Brian! Whoever would buy a bass called Brian!
  6. For a 6 year old? Maybe a bass ukulele.
  7. Looking at the prices and knowing what I’ve paid for similar cruises without bass tuition, I reckon they are about $1500 extra. Plus the hassle of flying to Venice with a bass which is too large for an overhead locker in the cabin, so it will be in the hold. And many of us may remember what happened to Dave Carroll’s Taylor guitar flying on Delta and their reluctance to do anything about it! if you don’t know see United breaks guitars on YouTube.
  8. I’ve sailed on Celebrity Cruises ships, the sister ones not Eqinox, and they are great! Food is fantastic as is the entertainment. Don’t know how the bass tutoring would work out but it looks really interesting.
  9. Did you remortgage the house or sell a kidney?
  10. Is green or white? Your photos seem to show both colours.
  11. Great pair. Has your Spectorcore got thevBarts or the EMG?
  12. Anyone got a P9? Thinking of getting one but I’m concerned about weight but thinking the ash body one should be lighter as that wood is generally light. It’s Aerodyne type shape which in Fenders is a lighter bass. Advise from an owner appreciated.
  13. Perhaps a little more detail - weight, nut width etc. Where are you based?
  14. That means they’re also tuned likecmandolinscand octave mandolas. But back to basses, how do Eastwood get away with complete copies without getting sued? As far as old Mosrites, I guess Semi is dead now, but they copy Charvel surfcasters too and Jackson/Charvel are still active.
  15. I think it also depends on the quality of the batteries. Test them to see what life they have, or just change it before an important gig to make sure after all they don’t cost a fortune and take a spare in your case/gig bag.
  16. I’d want money off for relic finish. It’s one thing to have some genuine road worn wear, but to artificially create it, nah!
  17. The Abalone (terrible name for a bass) looks like he just cut a Jazz and aJaguar in half down the middle and stuck them together. Certainly one of the worst websites I’ve ever seen.
  18. Had mine for 20 years but quite glad to not have it now, heavy, hummed under fluorescent lights and the fretboard wasn’t brilliant. Not sure why I kept it so long.
  19. If was the sixties in Britain I bet it was a Hofner.
  20. Never heard of him playing bass before, known as a gypsy jazz guitarist more recently he has been playing Gibson electrics. No mention of using a bass on his website as far as I can tell. I reckon they are defretted and treated like Jaco’s as the fingerboards shine.
