  1. +1 for La Bella LTs. I do use roundwounds as well and currently have d’Addario on and low B is fine.
  2. Eb and G, curiously seem to go together quite nicely. Might try using them.
  3. I’ll quickly put this right. Here she ie playing her more familiar bass (although not the Fender P with the lump of foam under the strings). Played on more hits that most of us have had hot dinners. Just listen to God Only Knows, superb phrasing.
  4. Recently found this amazing performance on YouTube. Joni Mitchell, who’s guitar work is pretty good, with Pat Metheny, Jaco Pastorius and Michael Brecker on sax thrown in for good measure. Jaco has a solo spot at around 24, but it’s his accompanying playing that I think is so good. He seems to be using a fretted jazz on track 1 before switching to the more familiar fretless. Enjoy.
  5. Definitely NO. Good way to give yourself arthritis or RSI 👎
  6. Lock him up immediately in Broadmoor.
  7. Teeth - Lady Gaga
  8. Killing me softly?
  9. I think Steve Swallow’s Citron may be a contender too.
  10. But can you get a good P sound, you know the one like Duck’s or Jamerson’s. Wasn’t that the point of specifying a PJ mix? Work on it!
  11. Very smart, Bro. How does it play?
  12. Rick meets Musicman?
  13. My friend has just bought a Strat Acoustasonic and loves it. Thanks to lockdown I’m yet to have a go. I have the TaylorT5Z which is similar to the Fender and predates. Has more trad controls - acoustic pickup and 2 pickups and I’ve thought several times that this would make a good bass. I also have a Spector Spectorcore which is pretty much what we’re talking about. Semi hollow body (but not much acoustic sound) Fishman piezo in the bridge and a magnetic pickup. I like it, but I notice that it seems to have disappeared from the Spector website, which probably means they’ve stopped making it. I’m guessing that Fender and Spector found that the market for such basses is pretty minimal. There is still the Ibanez one but that does have the magnetic pickup.
  14. Wow. That could make me want a P shaped bass again.
  15. Just by way of eliminating things, try putting a piece of thin card around the string where it goes under the retainer and tune up. If it still rattles it’s not to do with that end. Also just make sure there isn’t a loose screw on the machine head, although not rattling when when you used the old string probably eliminates that. May be just a duff string?
  16. If the Epi. Jack counts then so does this. Another reproduction of the Les Paul Signature Bass, this one by Peerless.
  17. Also remember that the switches work backwards to the labelling. If I remember correctly “bass on and treble on “ is written at the bottom of the plate, but the switch is on when clicked away from the label.
  18. It’s rather understated, sort of sophisticated!
  19. @x_sjg_x - yes. Several of our church musicians together with a couple from another have a rock/soul band called the Omega Project which plays pubs, weddings etc etc . I’m the reserve bass player, one of the 3 bass players in our church band has the regular gig.
  20. We used to have a weekly practice until COVID-19 put pay to meeting together. We had a brief spell in last autumn of socially distanced church with the band limited in size and spread out. Hoping to back to “live” worship at Easter but in the meantime recording at home separately and the results being edited on Google Drive has to suffice.
  21. Did he take enough basses with him to the gig?
  22. Does this mean Strike will have to move his office and flat?
  23. Nah, Thunderbird is a great looking and playing classic. The thundergun just looks weird - designed by a committee perhaps 👎
  24. I’m puzzled by @funkle’s comment about neck dive. Mine has absolutely none and I’m only using a thin retro style strap with a sliding shoulder pad. So I weighed it - 3.2kg, it balances really well, curious how similar instruments behave differently.
  25. And here’s one they made after Epiphone abandoned them.
