Good one @gs_triumph . All Four Seasons songs had really strong backings. The original band were great musicians but not such good car thieves, so they ended up having forced absences from the band. In one of their TV appearances the bassist is wielding a Gibson Thunderbird. Not a bass I would have associated with their style. Probably had done deal with Gibson.

There was a gorgeous natural finish “custom” smoked bass on Reverb for a very long time on which they kept reducing the price. I reckon they sold it at a bargain price to some likely fella.

That’s interesting, so the Mossrites and Charvel Surfcasters have probably gone unchallenged. More power to the elbow then for resurrecting some really cool designs. Are they a little expensive for what I assume is Far Eastern manufactured?

As this was presumably sent from Japan, did you escape import duty since Europe is supposed to have done a free trade deal with Japan?

Look like good quality workmanship, but I really don’t like the body shapes and the headstock looks way out of proportion.

No! The batwing headstock makes it. It’s what people are criticising the current Epi. Embassy for not having. How do Eastwood get away with making “replicas” ? Do they get permission or just dodge the lawsuits?

Bought for £157. Someone got a bargain for a luthier made bass even if the condition wasn’t great. Anyone on here the successful bidder?

+1 for a shim. Cheaper than new bridge pieces, a piece of cardboard will do it.

High action on a fretless? Maybe because it’s a defretted . Every fretless I’ve ever had has been really low on action, as it should be as there’s no frets to get in the way.

There’s no umlaut over the “o”. If the Ignition is made for Hofner (sorry my iPad doesn’t have one either) even in China I think they’d spell their name correctly.

Keep the old one as back up or fit different strings, flats maybe?

All Jazz has flats, it’s what makes it a Jazz. Something to do with the odd tuning of brass instruments. 🎷

Listening to the radio the other day, they played a track in connection with the forthcoming bio-pic about Elton John. It was of course “Rocket Man” which I haven’t listened to in decades. I was knocked out by the excellent bass line which is a real feature of the song and it started me thinking ( always dangerous) about other songs that have long since passed from memory which have really good bass lines. Any suggestions?

I started with a Fenton Weill. I don't have a picture of the original but this is a similar one from the net. I modded mine by removing the hideous red pickguard and putting a metal bridge on it. My first amp was some weird thing where one speaker faced forward and the other back. This was soon replaced by a Selmer Treble and Bass 50 and a Marshall 2 x 12 cabinet.
