  1. Taylor say the T5Z was designed for electric guitarists who wanted an acoustic option. The original T5 which had a bigger body and a different neck was intended to be for acoustic guitarists wanting an electric. I think they have now stopped making the T5 but continue with the Z variation. It definitely feels more like an electric than an acoustic . Have look at Taylor video and I think you’ll get a pretty clear idea of its capabilities.
  2. Good question @LeftyJ, it’s a very shallow neck, feels flat at the back. My Taylor acoustic 12 string is 20 mm at the narrowest, the T5Z is 18 mm. Doesn’t seem much but feels much shallower. Definitely an electric neck with a great ebony board.
  3. So the nice man from DHL delivered a parcel today! As I probably play as much guitar these days as I do bass I had 3 electro acoustics, one 12 string, two 6 and two of those were Taylors. However I haven’t owned an electric in years! So I sold the Taylor 6 string and replaced it with this neat little T5Z which is supposed to be able to do acoustic sound and electric. Nice dinky body which is surprisingly audible unplugged, amazing neck super shallow and the 5 way selector switching between its 3 pickups. I know it only looks like one but there is another hidden in the body by the neck and then a body sensor picking up the vibrations of the mahogany top. ive only a little 10watt amp at home so not the best test as it’s pretty tinny, but so far I’m impressed. I wouldn’t say the acoustic tone is the same as my electro acoustics but it will do and will be interesting to hear it through a PA. Neat little gig bag too.
  4. Yes I agree with all of those.
  5. And. Of course Moollon, much loved of Scott!
  6. Was it well discounted as it has no strings? 🤪
  7. Interesting positions of pickups. The P looks quite a long way forward whilst the J is well close to the bridge. Judging by the sound of it on Graceland they are in a great position, brrrp, brrrp brrrp, as it goes!
  8. Having seen the weight of these, if you get fed up with it you can always use it as a mallet to put in fence posts or erect circus marquees 🤣🤪😂
  9. I’ll correct my previous post, made in England. Sid and Reg Watkins made the guitars in their factory in Chertsey Surrey. In the late 60's the decision was made to split the guitars away from the amps as a separate company and the name Wilson was adopted. Wilson wasthe maiden name of the brothers' mother.
  10. I seem to remember that the Watkins brand was part of WEM who made some pretty good amps. Then the Wilson brand came along after and I think they were the same guitars made by whoever ( probably an Italian co.) but for a non WEM company when they stopped selling guitars and basses. Times had changed and imports from more exciting places were available
  11. I found the tension on them much too taut. Changed to La Bella Low Tension Flats, much better.👍🏼
  12. These have a real elegance about them.
  13. I wonder how many other bassists, excepting those on here, are also luthiers of that sort of quality?
  14. Thanks. That’s interesting, I thought I could see an A on the headstock. I love where the jack fits in. So he’s not just a good bass player!!
  15. Can you not get a luthier to “thin” it down a bit. I remember, I think, reading about Dave Pegg’s Precision which he’d had the neck narrowed down to Jazz size.
  16. Anyone any idea what bass Scott Ambush is playing ? There is a very nice sequence on YouTube of the band playing some of their hits from their respective homes.
  17. Depends on your creativity. Formal training didn’t hold Bach back or lack of it get in Jamie Cullum’s.
  18. Saw Duck at the Festival Hall with the Blues Brothers when they promoted the 2000 movie. He and the Colonel just seemed to have a ball playing. In the Otis footage note there’s no sign of any monitors, big Marshall 4x12’sand a brass section, how on earth do they hear anything or just play by instinct!
  19. I can understand some prices for a piece of history, but I cannot understand why any one would pay hundreds for some of the sixties junk like Egmond or a Rosetti Lucky 7; even some of the Hofners are ridiculous over. Who’d pay over a grand for a club 40; I remember selling for a tenner!
  20. A paltry 11; one of the ones I got wrong I even knew 👎
  21. He sang almost all Creams songs. I think Willie Dixon wrote a load but didn’t sing, just thwacked the upright! Kyle Eastwood writes tons of tunes but the main instruments playing are his brass players and pianist, but perhaps jazz doesn’t really count as there’s generally no lyrics!
  22. How will you ever manage with only 4 strings, Bro, I’ll look after your Status fretless 5; I’m sure you’ve no need for it 🤪🤣🥴
  23. I’ve always fancied the Eastwood retro of the Surfcaster, but can’t justify the expense for something I have no purpose for, it would just adorn my room. 🤪
  24. Never seen one before, wish I had. For a short while I had a Bach EB2 copy as well, very much like the Samick but with proper elephant ear tuners. Pretty good but they’ve been stopped selling them by a Gibson. I’m surprised they haven’t caught up with Samick or perhaps they have and that’s why they’re rare. Decent price though. I wonder if they’d courier it to U.K.,, preferably before we end up on WTO rules and paying duty on everything but chlorinated chicken!
