1. I reckon a GK 1001 would be enough...definitely. If you want to stay small, and would like a more tubey amp with lots of options, I seriously would test the TC Elec RH450. Once I heard one I had to have one....its a really really nice amp. Don't let the 450 rating put you off...
2.
You get a nice MM Stingray. Two, actually: fretted and fretless. Seriously, no love for the 'Ray? To me, there are three basic rock bass sounds: Precision, Jazz and Stingray. You're one down, Mr B.
+1 Thats the way forward.
3. This is a niceeeee bass!
4. I am a convert to this amp. Having recently swapped my Shuttle 9.0 that had a fault, for this amp....it is a massive difference. Much better quality construction.....the tone is awesome, and the features are very very good. My favourite micro amp by far. Even the cabs impressed me...so I might get some!
5.
thanks for the reply. Im soooooo close to ordering one form Soundslive. If i get it before next week it will be slightly cheaper due to the VAT rise in Jan, and i can return it within 7 days if i dont get on with it. I think second hand is fine but brand new gives me the option of getting exactly what i want. Now ;-)
That 7 day test is a good idea. If you dont like it...youve lost the price of sending it back....which isnt a lot.
6. Bump moving soon
7. Bump. If it helps the cab can be in London from Jan 10th onwards. Cheers
8.
Gorgeous! I'm after getting a 4x10 in the new year to replace my, according to my band mates, 'f***ing heavy' svt 810. Personally, I think they're just being a set of wimps If its still there in January, and no'1s had it off your hands, I may there with some lovely cash for ya Good luck with the sale man!
Thanks. Feel free to test out if you decide it might be for you. This will definitely give you a really really massive sound despite it being 4 less speakers than an 8x10.
9.
I cant believe nobody wants this beast.. well.. YET! there will be someone after this =] total bargain, tbh..
Cheers! This cab wil not disappoint
10. Saw this thread on EB forum Stunning instruments.
11.
Ive got my eye on a SR4, 3 band EQ, Black with maple neck. So far the only things im sure of are it has to be a 4 string and have 3 Band EQ. Not overly fussed about the colour but im not really in to bursts or bright colours. White is also good but ive not seen any come up second hand recently.
The black on Rays looks great in the flesh. All Rays have a really thick polish finish which, IMO, is one of the nicest out there. Aren't we sad not taking a day off bass for Xmas haha!
12. It's weird how natural looks so good with Stingrays. I personally used to be addicted to Natural finish but now I've only got the Ray and my USA Telecaster in Natural. It's a good look! Now I'm addicted to White because now I don't associate it with 80s metal. Sunburst is also great on a Ray.
13.
Have to say that I have used many Ampeg units but they were hired in so may have had a few miles on them. I think the Amps are better but the cabs I'd give a miss. If people say the newer models are better then ok, their info might be more upto date, but traditionally you needed 2 cabs or a 8x10 as the power was very poor pre speaker...300watts for an 8x10 is not good by any stretch, so a modern 4x10 should be delivering 600watts RMS easily with decent chassis' today, by my thinking. If you want a decent cab.. and some might say the BEST 4x10 around, then the above poster has a BERG 4 x10 which might be worth a think about. Just my 2p...
Cheers JTUK.....I didnt think about that!
14. Fantastic price. What year was it made? You probably already addressed this question.
15.
LOOK INTO MY EYES, DON'T LOOK AWAY, LOOK INTO MY EYES ... YOU ARE NOW FAST ASLEEP BUY AN SR4 WHEN I CLICK MY FINGERS, YOU WILL WAKE UP, FULLY REFRESHED, LONGING TO ONLY BUY AN SR4, ONLY DRINK IRISH WHISKEY AND AN UNHEALTHY FACINATION TO GIRLS ALOUD. CLICK
Classic post. Get a SR4....if you get a white one I will be jealous for years. I must admit, the natural is a good look for Rays....check them out as well.
16. Hmmm....lots of choice with that cash! I found the SVT Pro 3 to be great when I borrowed one on tour....but it sometimes...sometimes lacks power. If you are buying new, personally I would avoid Ampeg. But thats me. I was set on Ampeg until I tested the new versions CL and VR, and they just didnt do it for me. The 810E at lower volumes was just dull. But, Ampeg do make, well did make, some great bass gear. Thats just me though. Personally, I lost a bit of money thinking Ampeg was king (luckily not much) then as soon as I switched I found something that was more 'me'. If you are set on Ampeg, get the SVT Pro 3, then a different brand of cabinet. I suggest Aguilar if you don't mind normal weight cabinets. I know Im probably out on a limb, and when you see it you wont believe me, but the TC Elec RH450 amp is about £742 at the moment, and thats much louder that the SVT Pro 3, much smaller, can do an Ampeg tone if you want it to, and plenty of other tones. They apparently aimed that amp at the micro amp market for rock bands...whereas MB and Genz, etc, are aimed at other styles, (although they can all be used for whatever you want!). An RH450 with its RS cabinets, (RS210 + RS212) is VERY good...I dont own the cabinets...so Im not just saying my own gear is good. But I would like them. This smaller stack is incredibly loud..and wont cost you that much more. I didnt believe the reviews myself until I tested them. Very impressed...go and test Good luck!
17. Oh, email Strings N Things.... Very helpful with all the UK EB queries. Very fast to reply!
18. I say go for the real thing. As much as they are close, a real MM will serve you well. I would personally go 3 eq, UNLESS you want one of the new Classic Series Rays. Stunning colours coming out, 2 EQ, flat slab body, mutes, classic logos etc. They look AMAZING! I also like the White Ray you've picked out.
19.
Jesus. What a bargain.
I hope so, cheers!
20. Hi guys Sorry I have amended the above to include a price. The price is basically as it is due to purchasing new corners (still brand new and not yet fitted) for the cabinet and a virtually brand new cover from a chap on Talkbass who had a newish one spare. I am aware obviously people will want to haggle as well. The corners on the cabinet at the moment are actually fine, apart from a few minor scuffs on the bottom ones, but I’m a perfectionist so I bought 8 spare. £650 ONO. I have had a few people very interested in it already. If it does not go for the price I would like, I would still be very happy to keep it as it is a fantastic piece of bass equipment. Many thanks Gareth
21.
JD for me. Its the Roc'kn'roll way.
+1....or JB.
