1. Fantastic price. What year was it made? You probably already addressed this question.
 2.
[b]LOOK INTO MY EYES, DON'T LOOK AWAY, LOOK INTO MY EYES ... Get a SR4....if you get a white one I will be jealous for years. I must admit, the natural is a good look for Rays....check them out as well.
 3. Hmmm....lots of choice with that cash! I found the SVT Pro 3 to be great when I borrowed one on tour....but it sometimes...sometimes lacks power. If you are buying new, personally I would avoid Ampeg. But thats me. I was set on Ampeg until I tested the new versions CL and VR, and they just didnt do it for me. The 810E at lower volumes was just dull. But, Ampeg do make, well did make, some great bass gear. Thats just me though. Personally, I lost a bit of money thinking Ampeg was king (luckily not much) then as soon as I switched I found something that was more 'me'. If you are set on Ampeg, get the SVT Pro 3, then a different brand of cabinet. I suggest Aguilar if you don't mind normal weight cabinets. I know Im probably out on a limb, and when you see it you wont believe me, but the TC Elec RH450 amp is about £742 at the moment, and thats much louder that the SVT Pro 3, much smaller, can do an Ampeg tone if you want it to, and plenty of other tones. They apparently aimed that amp at the micro amp market for rock bands...whereas MB and Genz, etc, are aimed at other styles, (although they can all be used for whatever you want!). An RH450 with its RS cabinets, (RS210 + RS212) is VERY good...I dont own the cabinets...so Im not just saying my own gear is good. But I would like them. This smaller stack is incredibly loud..and wont cost you that much more. I didnt believe the reviews myself until I tested them. Very impressed...go and test Good luck!
 4. Oh, email Strings N Things.... Very helpful with all the UK EB queries. Very fast to reply!
 5. I say go for the real thing. As much as they are close, a real MM will serve you well. I would personally go 3 eq, UNLESS you want one of the new Classic Series Rays. Stunning colours coming out, 2 EQ, flat slab body, mutes, classic logos etc. They look AMAZING! I also like the White Ray you've picked out.
 6.
Jesus. What a bargain.
I hope so, cheers!
 7. Hi guys Sorry I have amended the above to include a price. The price is basically as it is due to purchasing new corners (still brand new and not yet fitted) for the cabinet and a virtually brand new cover from a chap on Talkbass who had a newish one spare. I am aware obviously people will want to haggle as well. The corners on the cabinet at the moment are actually fine, apart from a few minor scuffs on the bottom ones, but I’m a perfectionist so I bought 8 spare. £650 ONO. I have had a few people very interested in it already. If it does not go for the price I would like, I would still be very happy to keep it as it is a fantastic piece of bass equipment. Many thanks Gareth
 8.
JD for me. Its the Roc'kn'roll way.
+1....or JB.
 9. Dont do this to me! Hhhahahah. I still want one of these.
 10.
Hi there, I got a Bass Terror last weekend, tried in the shop with a TC 2x10 cab and the guys in shop said that building was vibrating. Got home, hooked it up to my Aguilar DB410 cab just to give it a quick try, and within 5 minutes next door complained saying that I was making too much noise (more than the usual...). Band practice last night, comments from the guys in the band "is going too be loud enough, it is only a very small amp - turn it up to see how loud it goes?", I think that they regreted the last comment when I turned the volume up to 12 o'clock - THIS AMP IS VERY LOUD Moos3h review is pretty accurate, I love it so far and works very well with my DB410 cab At first I assumed that the Bass Terror had a std active EQ with cut and boost as the legend on the front panel shows a zero at 12 o'clock, but the EQ is definitely passive as when the bass, mid and treble are all at minimum position no sound comes out. Even with passive EQ you can get quite a lot of variation from the EQ, with most settings being very usable. Yes, the fan is noisy but not really noticeable in a band situation. I had a look at the fan and this looks like a std 80mm PC Case cooling fan, so I am considering replacing it with a silent (quiet) PC Case fan as this looks very easy to do assuming that runs at 12V supply (a high end "silent" PC fan will cost between £8 and £15). I think that my Ampeg SVT-2 Pro is going to be up for sale very soon Cheers Joao
That setup just oozes cool. Orange amps and Aguilar cabs work really well, hence why I went for some as well as the Orange ones.
 11. I'm biased but these cabs sound fantastic. Heavy but awesome. Don't believe the lightweight hype
 12.
Tell that to my ho's
A much needed lol!
 13. It sounds absolutely crazy that people feel they have to leave after a disagreement over the internet. We all have things we agree and disagree on. This topic has flared up so much interest, and I think some of it may be due to the fact that certain members are wary of any newcomers being flooded with 'get a Compact' comments to every single 'what cab?' thread. Compacts will work for some people, but not for all. We shouldnt shower certain pieces of equipment with mass praise...
 14.
But it is a commercial product, at no cheap price, so people will say what they feel about them..that the business they are in.
Probably the most sensible thing said on this topic!

 16.
people are to nice on this forum. If this was any other forum this thread would've got reallllll bad.
+ 1 I completely agree! Probably a good thing.
 17. Oh no, I agree. You have to test, and test I most definitely did.
 18.
I'm another one that used Neo's for a number of years (Epifani UL210's) and have now 'rediscovered' ceramics in the guise of a couple of Bergantino's 112's. Its a bit of an apples and pears comparison, two 2x10's against two 1x12's, but I also tried the Bergantino AE112's against the HT/EX pair I bought - the AE's sounded harsh and less musical in comparison to their Ceramic driver/heavier cab brethren.
I have to agree. +1. The AEs are nice, but didnt have the sheer grunt of the HT/EX ERs I tested. I wanted to go neo....but its not for me. I do like the Tecamp M212 I have, but im thinking of moving it on soon now the other one has sold in the for sale bit.
 19. I personally dont rate Ampeg massively anyway....maybe the older stuff. But, it definitely had miles more clarity and punch than the Compact, and it was 8 ohms with my friends SVT Pro 3.
 20. There has been hype....definitely. And that can lead to disappointment. Fortunately Im not struggling with any back problems....and I do make sure I get help when lifting cabinets. Weight to me is more of an issue with the amp and bass. I usually borrow backline cabs, so 80% of the time Im not hauling stuff around. I'm definitely on the school of thought that the ceramics still add something that neos cannot. Maybe thats ridiculous, but even store owners who test gear all day state the same thing. I also think Talkbass is a massive hype machine. It annoys me. Most of those guys are happy with 4 ohm 2x12s for everything, but for me, thats sometimes not enough. I got into the frame of mind of 'one cab solutions', but so far only the HS410 is that one cab solution....or something bigger like the NV610. We also must agree that some people here have totally different volume needs. Whats loud for one is quiet for another, (especially me, we play too loud, and to me I want to turn down, but I use ear protection so I dont have to worry). I tested the Compact with my full band at a gig, (yes a gig not my house) and the lows were there, but it got lost completely once the band starting playing. Rock bands need totally different setups to funk or jazz. We had to switch back to the Ampeg 4x10 for the next band. I appreciate the test, and it was light....but then again my HS410 weighs nothing with casters!
 21.
That's Lake Placid Blue, isn't it?
Yep think so.
 22.
You see it's all about individual preference and probably a bit of playing style and what music you play. I am the new owner of the "uninspiring, boomy, rigid, and dead sounding" DJ4. However, I have found it to be "inspiring, exciting, flexible and sounds fantastic". I also used to own a 2eq Stingray which I found to be lifeless in the treble department. My SUB4 however is a marvellous bass which will be with me as long as I am able to play. It all goes to show that the ideal way to investigate your own choices is to get out and play individual basses and make up your own mind. We are all different and look for different things in our basses. These forums also show that individuals can be extolling the marvellous sounds and features of their basses one minute and selling them the next. Trust your own ears and hands. All the best!
I have to agree. The DJ and JO Jazz sound is absolutely brilliant. It is deep....but wow does it sound amazing! Its like a different take on the Fender Jazz....but still doing the aggressive J sound, with a twist.
Cheers again guys. Michael, you make a good point about a MM sounding like a MM etc. I dont think ill go looking for "the one", just something comfortable to play. It could take me too long to find one that sounds just right, especially as i wont be taking my rig around so its really going to be down to the neck more than anything. and the colour of course. Im working right up to christmas eve so cant get to you before christmas but thanks again for the kind offer. Im going to try and get to the Gallery at some point. They seem to have a few on their new website although at £900 for a second hand one they are a bit out of my price range at the moment. Gareth, thanks also to you for the kind offer. Glad to see you now have a destination although that area came out of the blue didnt it? Pegasus, cheers, thats a great clip and a fantastic tone. We sometimes play Sancutry at weddings so maybe i can use that as an excuse when the other half realises i have a new bass. I forgot to mention before but one of the reasons i came back to this thread i is was watching Queen live in Montreal the other night and thinking what a great tone JD has and how he manages to do a whole gig with just the one bass. Went to the toilet, came back and thought his tone was even better on Another one bites the dust, looked at the TV and lo and behold, he is playing a StingRay of some sort. The GAS had started again.
I know. We searched high and low. We were told to 'avoid' certain areas in the south, but where we have now deposited is bloody lovely. Very quiet, modern, river views, next to the DLR, and HUGE amounts of space. Its very clean and very modern, with everything we need and amazing security. We got lucky I think....everything else we looked at was shabby and tiny. This place is like its own village away from the chaos. A good thing for me, I like to be able to get away, then go back into it at my choice. Cheers
 23. As I have mentioned elsewhere, I was a non believer with TC until I actually tried one properly. Some of the stores have really badly EQ'd them and knocked down the preset volume. I tested one for 20 mins at Bass Merchant yesterday, and I was literally in awe of how good it sounds. The tube tone really does work well. It is, IMO, the best micro amp out there. And I've tested a fair few. I imagine the Mesa Walkabout head on its own is a very good competitor, with amazing sound, but the TC features work so well, (eg, unlike certain amps, its features do something....I am not a fan of cheap presets for example...and Ive never seen the point, apart from 1 of the Trace ones which I loved!).
 24.
Cheers Mike. I tend to go into the Bass Gallery and lust after the Sei's - I used to live in Camden up until Sept when I moved out to East 17........... I'm loving the TC and am still playing with the settings. I'm so glad you can store 3 of them J
The TC is fantastic. I was a non-believer until I researched them...and then tested. Absolutely stunning. I think TC will be a big names in bass amps soon.
