You have to be straight. There's no way I would have agreed to record vids of me playing. I'm in a similar situation 'aww just come round to my house mate and we'll have a jam' - to which I said no thanks, pick 5 songs, send me mp3s and I'll learn them and come to your next band practice. Remember you're auditioning them as much as they're auditioning you. Don't get messed around - they're noT doing you a favour letting you be in their band. One positive note: glad to see you've got the bullshit detector well and truly tuned in - one decent band from 20 enquiries seems about right!!
+1...cheers. From now on, I do it my way, or its not going to work. In addition, I make sure they realise a decent bassist who isnt just a guitarist fiddling with bass is a tough musician to find. Ive been totally messed about...no more 'videos' of me playing along...from now on ill learn 2-3 tracks and try out...thats it. No more messing about. Thanks for the advice.

Just got my Roqsolid cover....perfect fit, nice and padded inside, superb quality and great waterproof outer. Very impressed....cannot go wrong at that price. It basically looks better than some of the more expensive covers....very well cut and cut together. Roqsolid are very pro!

Previous efforts to try and rehearse have failed...only serious offers please. Bump
-
I agree with this now. Ive had 15-20 offers for joining bands. 2-3 were half decent, one of them sounded pro as hell. What do THEY want me to do? Go all out, learn a lot of material, and play along to it on videos...then send them through. A fair bit of messing about. Guess what, I do all that, they keep asking me for more, they like it, and they still say 'we gotta rehearse first see what you are like'. I carry on....FFWD to today...the band have split. Waste of time and now im basically annoyed as hell and bored of bands being like this. Meh.
Which ones do you like then?
Warwick $$ Active 5, but now I think they have 'too much' going on with two H's.... Warwick Streamer Jazzman 5...out of budget and a risk for a bass id never really researched much before.... Etc.... That bass you have on order is a bloomin bargain! Enjoy
Light warwick? Corvette Bubinga and Thumbs are heavy despite the reduced body size, haven't tried a SS2. Swamp ash (corvette standard, $$) or maple (SS1, Streamer LX, Corvette Proline, Jazzman) are more reasonable. Dunno about the SS2, but I hear it's on the heavy side (especially 5 strings). Depends. They have in general a bump in the low-mids instead of full-on bass, which gives them a specific voice. They don't sound like Fenders, or Musicmans. They have models that are quite unique, like the Thumb, The Streamer Pro-M (discontinued sadly, all maple, sort of Stingray-ish), the Vampyre, the Dolphin, and their special editions (Thumb Dirty Blond, Corvette $$ 2008, ...). In general, it's Streamer LX, Jazzman, Stage 1, Stage 2, the Thumbs (odd beasts), and Corvettes you will most likely encounter. They changed their neck profile recently to something less fat, and more conventional. Try if you can. The Corvette $$ is a popular model, however I wasn't so keen on the 5 string model (bit muddy down low). The Thumbs are peculiar. Imo, Stage 1 and Stage 2 is where it's at.
Thanks for the advice. I think I need to play a few of them for a few months and do some research. They are completely alien to me...its very odd that I have GAS for one..but I think I should definitely try a few.

Glad you got it looks like a beaut as well. We should a/b my maple board one with your rosewood. I think the sunburst is really good, and the bridge/case/candy/neck/board/pickups are really impressive

I used to, and still do, like a bit of classic Megadeth. He does a good job again: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=keQs-Ml5uBE...feature=related -

I think its a ego thing, although I must say Ive not seen many bassists who play that genre of music play as well as he does. He really excels with his fingers...although sometimes a pick would make it more defined for the immensely fast lines. I wish I could play at half thats speed with my fingers. Pick.no probs, but fingers....I just havent got the strength or time to learn! -
Tbh Chris, you're probably right! It's just that I transport gear to gigs in my estate car and with everything that I already carry; x2 Aggies, TF, Pedalboard, Gramma Pad, Bag of leads, Guitar stands, x1 bass guitar PLUS 75% of our bands PA inc' x2 RCF mid/tops, Flightcased Mixing desk, Flightcased effects, BIG bag of leads and assorted bits, box containing x2 iColors lights and associated controllers and cables... carrying a trolley just adds to the bulk. However, as you say carrying a trolley might be one more thing but it would make moving stuff easier. I think I'll look again into what's available and how small they can fold down.
That is a LOT of PA and equipment to carry in one car. I feel quite lucky now to normally just take a 1 bass in case, bag of leads/sansamp etc, and normally LM3 in amp bag.
I've just finished looking at the Music Man guitar porn. Lovely! So many guitars, but most have got single humbuckers. Why? If you've got 2 pups, you've got more sound variation, haven't you? Also, what is the best stand for a Music Man? I've got a Stingray and a Sterling, but the jack has to be taken out if I'm using my Genisis stand 'cos the jack is directly in line with the right hand support.
Hey Id get an angled jack for the MM. Ive not tried it plugged in on my Herc stand as yet ill let you know. But overall, the Hercules Stands are the best, and seem to be very popular. I didnt have the option of two H's as mine were both purchased before the option became available, but after hearing a few, and seeing how much space you don't have for the occasional bit of slap, Im kinda glad. I would get a Humbucker + Single Coil option, possibly in the future. Little more room. To me, Stingray tone is 1 H, thats it. The two H's I heard are very very close, and do give you more options, but I am the type who prefers the classic designs....eg Ive tried a Precision Deluxe with a P pickup and Humbucker, and it just did nothing for me. However, like I said, H+H gives you more options...if you want them.

They have a something my friend might be interested in bass wise....problem is....its a new bass, but the serial number they have given us puts it as an 06..which has all sorts of complications to any differences there might be with a newer model. Hmmm...
Looking at the way he's constantly flexing his fingers/hand, he's either suffering from over playing or over egging the fact he's about to play fast. Not big and not clever to be that uncomfortable!
I remember when I was on tour for two weeks and I somehow did some strange injury to my fretting hand thumb. I went to the Doctors, it got checked over....apparently it was just a damaged tendon that would heal. A year later it was still there. Now...its gone...thankfully. I think I over stretched or just got a little too excited. I try and play with a proper hand position at all times...until Ive had a few. -
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Wr99nPYNEbs...feature=related 44 ish secs in. 1 finger picking. His other videos are also insanely fast.... Metallica should have him to get someone close to Cliff's awesome playing. The Battery video is awesome.
