1. Stunning...tempted far too much
2. I can help you on this one Dave I would keep the DJ5 for now, save about 750/800, and get a second hand ray 4. If you want versatility, get the 3 band. If you want traditional, save for the new classic series ray, check em on the eb forum. The ray sound is HUGE. Put it with markbass and it's perfect. I will pm you more info later. I'm gassing for the sterling5 but it's 1400 ish! If you want a fatter warm sound, put a set of flats on. I heard one like this and I am convinced, the strings are awaiting to be fitted!
3. Clarky's last P bass is with me now. I would play as many as you can. You already know the 08/09 fenders are a step up.
4. Fast payment and great communication! Cheers and enjoy the strings mate
5.
Might be an idea! Not wishing to hijack thread, but DB212 and Tecamp 212, which is best?
The Tecamp 212 is a perfect lightweight solution and is much better than I imagined a lightweight cab could be....Im very impressed. The Aguilar gives you that ceramic thump, and I think its slightly darker and 'dirtier' yet still clear and articulate. Plus Brown cabs...how cool is that?! Totally different horns on them as well....I like them both! The Tecamp retails for more because of its weight... I neeed to AB them both....properly. But, I really like what Ive got. No more, nothing...Im a lucky guy and I should just enjoy what Ive got. If you can get either...I would! The Aguilars will be getting more play soon when the Genz 9.0 comes as they are 8 ohms cabs (better for a tube amp as the Orange is 200 tube watts no matter what ohmage...or 4ohm minimum....went all out with two DB212s) and the Shuttle 9.0 pumps in a lot more...so they effectively become one cab solutions as well as a huge stack!

7. Hey everyone I sold a few sets of new strings on here as I wanted to try something new. Rotos are great, don’t get me wrong, and you cannot go wrong for the price, but I fancied a change. Clarky sold me the White P Bass with TI Jazz Flats fitted. I am now a convert to the smooth feel and tone. At first, the more ‘dead’ sound took a little getting used to…but crank the tone and you still have plenty of brightness. Recently I’ve been practicing some Jamiroquai basslines to get the fingers a little stronger, and sure enough P Bass + flats is awesome. Plus, once your hands warm up, you can slide really quickly and it feels great. So, Ive ordered the same set to put on whichever bass needs them next. Im hoping one of the Rays If Im honest. I like the fact the TIs bend so easily, yet are thick and full. I heard a Ray with flats and it sounds brilliant. I also PM’d OutToPlayJazz about the DR Strings, and I’ve opted to try some DR Fat Beams, light gauge, but they are slightly heavier gauge on the E and A compared to my Rotos, which is exactly what I wanted. These will go on whichever other bass needs them next! I basically wanted the ultimate stainless steel strings for times when I really want a cutting modern sound, plus these again aren’t high tension. So….shopped about. Strings Direct have been recommended twice to me. So, I checked them out, lots of stock and lots of range. I did notice some of their prices were a TINY bit higher than the lowest prices I’d found on the internet. They were still cheaper than most places though. I emailed and asked for a price match, and not only did they match it, they rounded it down a couple of quid. Basically, £5 cheaper than everywhere else plus free next day delivery. That, in my eyes, is really good. I highly recommend contacting these guys. I got a very quick response, and they were happy to match prices. From now on, I know where I’ll be buying from. Oh, and I sent my order through at 14:30, and they dispatched them special delivery by 15:40. That is really fast! They will be here tomorrow. Cheers for reading
8.
It's probably only a matter of time before you own all 3 so you'll be able to do the shootout yourself! (Sorry, I'm just jealous!) Great collection. Your missus must be the most understanding woman around.
She doesnt know about the Shuttle 9.0 yet! I'll try and confuse her about it.
9. Just ordered my cover from Roqsolid...7.5% Xmas discount and free delivery.
10. Update: Went with Roqsolid...the German company wanted full retail price and with delivery it was nearing £90 for a cover....which is too much considering the cab was such a good buy. Anyway, Roqsolid have put up a 7.5% discount for Xmas over the past few days....so all in all cost me £43 delivered. Black with black binding so it stays looking decent hopefully.
11.
Bass Direct have them for £28 a set with bulk discounts: http://www.bassdirect.co.uk/bass_guitar_sp...s_Hi_Beams.html Edit: Stringbusters seem to be even cheaper. £25 a set when buying more than 3: http://www.stringbusters.com/frameset.asp?.../DR%20HANDMADE/
I think stringbusters are out of stock of the ones I want. Strings Direct are meant to be pretty good prices....ive been recommened by OutToPlayJazz to go there.
12. Metal style basses....or guitars.....ewww
13.
Yes, edges are rolled. The weight is 8lb 15-1/8oz according to my kitchen scales, which I think is pretty accurate. Noticed serial number is Z8 - so that makes it a 2008?
Yep....mine was brand new in July but an 08....but the new model obviously. Sometimes they dont put the neck and body together for quite a while so they are only approx. datings. Is that a stock guard or did you get a new one? Has it got the new case etc? Bargain!
14.
Hello, I'm new to this forum and looking for some advice. Haven't been playing for very long and I'm looking to buy my second amp. My 80W just ain't cutting it anymore. I play in a rock band and I need an amp that will be audible over a loud drummer and 2 distorted guitars. I've gathered from what I've read that I need something in the 300-500W category, but I've seen reviews for 300W amps, which claim that they're not loud enough and I've seen reviews for the 100W Ampeg BA115, which claim that it's plenty loud enough to play in a loud band, so I'm a little confused. Ideally I'd like to get something for less than £400 which hopefully is more than enough. Most if not all gigs we play have a PA, so I just need something that will keep up with the rest of the band in rehearsal. So my question to you is what would you buy? Should I go combo or head/cab, which brands are good quality and which should I stay away from? Any help is greatly appreciated
Head + cab.... Mark Bass Little Mark 2/3 then a decent cab
15. Has this got a MM hardcase?
16. What condition is this bass in?
17. In addition, has anyone tried DR Hi Beam flats?!
18. Ive sold some new Roto sets I had as im now leaving the band I used that lighter gauge with. Plus, I fancied a change. I have TI flats on one of my Ps, which is great. Sounds and feels awesome. I like the low tension. What about a Stingray? Any tried EB flats or should I stick to TIs? 100 Gauge for the E string max. In addition, im going to restring a bass with DR Stainless Steels, and Im thinking either Hi Beam or Fat Beam....only £2 difference, anyone care to comment? Cheers
19. I have TIs on one of my P's, whats the best flats for a Stingray? Same ones or should I try EB?
20.
First impressions are that it is quite a sensitive speaker load so I'm not convinced that it'll need an extension cab to work in most situations; i.e. when it gets to the point where you need to partner it with an extension cab you should be going through the PA!
Sounds awesome to me Keep us updated.
21. They do look like damn fine combos. I'd love one If I could afford the extension cab as well.
22. Im thinking of putting flats on one of my Rays....not sure which brand to use now. EB Group III's?
23.
It appears that they don't 'all' do it! I have one and it mutes the signal completely! Again the hiss isn't affecting 'all' of the combos. I'm hypercritical of humm and noise (other than the racket that I call bass playing) and this 2x12 combo is pretty spot on, no noise!
Did you pick up a 2x12 combo?!
24. Leaving a band….strange how it goes a little sour. Well, I’d had enough last year, but I soldiered on. I tried to push them to write and record, and we have 2 very average songs in a year…shocking. Plus, the main leader of the band doesn’t understand the concept that’s its ok to ask to be paid for petrol…im sick of shelling out and watching the promoters go home with bags of money. Anyway, its turned a little sour. I cant practice with them due to working hours, and I cant do a weekender they have planned. I did give them a months notice on the weekender though. I plan to do my last gig with them in December, but Im not paying/working/doing any favours for the band itself anymore. I want to remove myself and just be their mate, like we was before it started. Its been downhill for a year, I even admit we’ve had our day and we were popular up north for a few years, but our new songs are just not up there in terms of our usual writing. We hardly sold any cds, and they have threatened to not pay the guy who actually put the cds together. The chap is my old friend who I DJ with, so im getting out before it gets heated. We planned to make a fair few tshirts, and it never happened. We never play decent gigs now due to laziness….we just play crappy home shows for the opportunity for some of the lads to show off to young women. Im past it, im bored, and im moving soon anyway. Its turned into a right mess, and they are in debt which is not my fault. It’s a shame, but these things have to end.
25. Its not so much a worry if its around 10lbs....but I did own a USA Fender Deluxe a while back, the weight let it down, (for me anyway). I got back ache playing it for more than an hour....which i've never had with other basses. Its the Lakland Skyline series like JO and DJ that confuse me....the weights are so hit and miss
