Just ordered my cover from Roqsolid...7.5% Xmas discount and free delivery.
-
Update: Went with Roqsolid...the German company wanted full retail price and with delivery it was nearing £90 for a cover....which is too much considering the cab was such a good buy. Anyway, Roqsolid have put up a 7.5% discount for Xmas over the past few days....so all in all cost me £43 delivered. Black with black binding so it stays looking decent hopefully.

Strings Direct are meant to be pretty good prices....ive been recommened by OutToPlayJazz to go there.
Yes, edges are rolled. The weight is 8lb 15-1/8oz according to my kitchen scales, which I think is pretty accurate. Noticed serial number is Z8 - so that makes it a 2008?
Yep....mine was brand new in July but an 08....but the new model obviously. Sometimes they dont put the neck and body together for quite a while so they are only approx. datings. Is that a stock guard or did you get a new one? Has it got the new case etc? Bargain!
Hello, I'm new to this forum and looking for some advice. Haven't been playing for very long and I'm looking to buy my second amp. My 80W just ain't cutting it anymore. I play in a rock band and I need an amp that will be audible over a loud drummer and 2 distorted guitars. I've gathered from what I've read that I need something in the 300-500W category, but I've seen reviews for 300W amps, which claim that they're not loud enough and I've seen reviews for the 100W Ampeg BA115, which claim that it's plenty loud enough to play in a loud band, so I'm a little confused. Ideally I'd like to get something for less than £400 which hopefully is more than enough. Most if not all gigs we play have a PA, so I just need something that will keep up with the rest of the band in rehearsal. So my question to you is what would you buy? Should I go combo or head/cab, which brands are good quality and which should I stay away from? Any help is greatly appreciated
Head + cab.... Mark Bass Little Mark 2/3 then a decent cab

In addition, has anyone tried DR Hi Beam flats?!
-
Ive sold some new Roto sets I had as im now leaving the band I used that lighter gauge with. Plus, I fancied a change. I have TI flats on one of my Ps, which is great. Sounds and feels awesome. I like the low tension. What about a Stingray? Any tried EB flats or should I stick to TIs? 100 Gauge for the E string max. In addition, im going to restring a bass with DR Stainless Steels, and Im thinking either Hi Beam or Fat Beam....only £2 difference, anyone care to comment? Cheers

I have TIs on one of my P's, whats the best flats for a Stingray? Same ones or should I try EB?
First impressions are that it is quite a sensitive speaker load so I'm not convinced that it'll need an extension cab to work in most situations; i.e. when it gets to the point where you need to partner it with an extension cab you should be going through the PA!
Sounds awesome to me Keep us updated.

They do look like damn fine combos. I'd love one If I could afford the extension cab as well.
-
Im thinking of putting flats on one of my Rays....not sure which brand to use now. EB Group III's?
It appears that they don't 'all' do it! I have one and it mutes the signal completely! Again the hiss isn't affecting 'all' of the combos. I'm hypercritical of humm and noise (other than the racket that I call bass playing) and this 2x12 combo is pretty spot on, no noise!
Did you pick up a 2x12 combo?!

Leaving a band….strange how it goes a little sour. Well, I’d had enough last year, but I soldiered on. I tried to push them to write and record, and we have 2 very average songs in a year…shocking. Plus, the main leader of the band doesn’t understand the concept that’s its ok to ask to be paid for petrol…im sick of shelling out and watching the promoters go home with bags of money. Anyway, its turned a little sour. I cant practice with them due to working hours, and I cant do a weekender they have planned. I did give them a months notice on the weekender though. I plan to do my last gig with them in December, but Im not paying/working/doing any favours for the band itself anymore. I want to remove myself and just be their mate, like we was before it started. Its been downhill for a year, I even admit we’ve had our day and we were popular up north for a few years, but our new songs are just not up there in terms of our usual writing. We hardly sold any cds, and they have threatened to not pay the guy who actually put the cds together. The chap is my old friend who I DJ with, so im getting out before it gets heated. We planned to make a fair few tshirts, and it never happened. We never play decent gigs now due to laziness….we just play crappy home shows for the opportunity for some of the lads to show off to young women. Im past it, im bored, and im moving soon anyway. Its turned into a right mess, and they are in debt which is not my fault. It’s a shame, but these things have to end.

Its not so much a worry if its around 10lbs....but I did own a USA Fender Deluxe a while back, the weight let it down, (for me anyway). I got back ache playing it for more than an hour....which i've never had with other basses. Its the Lakland Skyline series like JO and DJ that confuse me....the weights are so hit and miss
No.2 or 4. The new American Standards are excellent. End of.
+1 Totally agree. MIJ are very good, but the new American Standards are very very nice.

I'm a pick player originally, but Ive learnt to play more and more with my fingers. On some tracks/basses, fingerstyle sounds excellent. I can no way match my very speedy and efficient pick technique...but Im hoping ill be able to do a very good job at most styles of moderate paced music in the near future. Punk sometimes sounds better with a pick....I find that....but then again A Wilhelm Scream bassist uses his fingers and he plays extremely fast. Just keep going and going. Get a metronome website up and play along for as long as you can at a comfortable speed....do it as often as possible. Try play someof your own songs with your fingers. It will work
-
Some of the basses I was looking at are over 10lbs which really puts me off
-
Nope keeping the rest for moving now. Boooooo
-
Well, I've just preordered one at that same price. I had to cancel the Lakland for a bit but nevermind. Anyone else actually deposited one?
-
My 5 string plans have changed until I get a job in London. Plus I want to test a few other brands. We all talk about comfortable weight, but what weight is acceptable for a 5 string without giving back ache? All my 4 s are a very nice lowish weight.
-
I love the wood on most Spector basses, looks so classy. Ive tried looking for good demos with their 5 strings, and its just loads of metalheads playing thrash....which is ok if you want to play that, but Id rather steer clear of them for a true demo of their sound.
