1. Boss Tuner + sometimes the Sansamp or Tonehammer. I dont use anything else, and some small gigs I just go into the amp. I dont like to get away from the natural sound of the bass. Too many effects is just annoying.
2. Have to admit they are very nice amps. Shockingly loud and full sounding!
3. This looks awesome Dave! You have really made it you own. Id love to hear it.
4. I have both. Main difference is the Aguilar is more powerful overall. It doesnt have the Ampeg-ish type grit, it has a different style of distortion, but very very good! So...owning both is a good move. The TH is really good just as a preamp as well, and then you can whack on the grit. Both very good, TH more versatile though.
5. I have now bought another 09 Precision, this time second hand from Clarky. I had to sell my old faithful MIJ P Bass though Anyway, again, this 09 Series is great. Clarky as put TI Flats on the bass, and Im shocked at how nice they are to play. Even with flats, the Bass sounds punchy and raw, but roll back the tone and you get perfect P Bass thump to match the flats. The bridge/case are yet again brilliant. I noticed just how tight and precise the tuners are today as well. Thats a huge plus for me. This is a rosewood board, Olympic White with optional Fender black pickguard and the Tort stock as an option. Got to say, the rosewood co,lour is fantastic, and yet again the rolled fingerboard work brilliantly. Another top Fender!
6. Same as mine apart from the board.
7. USA Fender Precision 62 Reissue - white....POSSIBLY sunburst. USA Fender Jazz 75 Reissue - I want it in a colour other than natural, even though I quite like natural! Next year....I'm going to try and get them.
8. DJ5/JO5 Laklands were the first 5 string basses that really felt comfortable. Stingray 5's are damn nice too.
9.
Touchy question - didn't quite get it from the original post - are you and your GF going to keep it going long-distance, or has she left you to go do this job in London? If the former - up sticks and move down there with her. Completey get out of the scene you're currently in and find a whole new thing. Sure there's plenty of musos in London you could get together with. The idea of staying in the sh*t bands you're currently in to try and recoup your invested cash is bad for two reasons. 1) Don't ever play just for the cash. (Unless you're a full-time pro of course, but the quality of bands you're talking about don't give that impression even if that's what you want to be doing). 2) You'll just end up putting more into it and end up financially worse, unless you splashed a stack on recording a GREAT demo which is now getting you agent & management interest and gigs are starting to flood your way. Then you'd recoup. Even if your GF is now definitely ex (if so, sorry to hear about it) a completely fresh start in a new town could be a great thing. Life is short. Carpe diem!
+1 Good advice
10. Keep it as it was stock....itll sell better when you (if you) decide to move it on Lots of people use the GK heads without the GK cabs.
11. Boss TU2 or Korg Pitchblack My preference is the TU2 though. Borrowed one for a few weeks, loved it, bought my own.
12.
How long before the Shuttle Max 9.0 comes out, dou you reckon? Would seem to be the logical way to go. In fact, it would be more logical than the 12.0.
Hey Well, UK shops are taking pre-orders and saying a few weeks. I reckon we are looking at a month but thats fine with me....means I can have more money saved up! Its definitely more logical than the 12.0 for me....I prefer that it powers a 8 ohm cab with the 500W and is so small! All my cabs apart from the Berg are 8 ohms and mid sized, so this little amp is perfect for showing their true potential as stand alone 8 ohm cabs.
13.
Moving is often a good option - I've experienced similar phases in the past - the first place I moved after college was to Oxford (after signing on for 18 months in my small hometown!) I got out to lots of jam sessions and as I moved with a musician who had already lived there I got hooked up with quite a few jobbing bands - I was very busy with gigs for a couple of years - and also joined a band in London as the Oxford Tube coach service was a cheap way to schlep back and forth from there - and I have to say I've not looked back since - there are lots of opportunities out there - you just have to go and grab them yourself and not always wait for them to come to you... Go for it Cheers Mike
+1 Sometimes its time to pack it up and move on. I kinda wish my home band would just fold and give up so I dont leave and regret it in a few years. But, its taken about 5-6 months to write 2 new songs, and thats just not good enough for me. Plus, our crowd of fans have now moved on to pastures new, and they wont be coming back very often. Theyve all got new bands as well in their new towns. Ill miss my drummer, a lot. Hes fantastic....Im hoping later in life I will be in another band with him. But, sometimes a risky move is the RIGHT move. I hope anyway!
14. Basically next year im going to cain out a custom Matamp.
15. Seen some really low prices on these! Jees...incredible for what you get. Seriously seriously tempted. 2010 will have to be virtually GAS-les if I do.
16.
'75 Jazz re-issues are lovely! I've had TI flats on mine for a while, and it sounds and plays great. Mark.
WOW! More white basses....must resisttttt!
17. After testing some of the earlier S1's, they werent as worth it...even though they were still nice. Total change with the new American Series 08/09. For £799-£850, you get a LOT for your money. Yes, mass produced, etc etc, but the new bridges, cases, necks, and tuners make them much more on par with the fender copiers. A few years back, before the S1, I bought a USA Natural Jazz...it was awful compared to this beauty I have now. That pre-S1 cost me a little more than one of the new ones...probably because internet prices werent as vicious so they sold closer to retail. I played a MIM Jazz, and yes it was decent, but it did not have that perfect Fender Jazz tone, and it was fairly heavy. Plus, the bridges/cases/necks/tuners are not upto spec with the new American Series. £799-£850 for a new American Fender isnt that bad, I dont think. £1900 for a Sadowsky Metro is far too much. Why do you think I bought three?! But a MIM DOES get the job done pretty well
18. ALL of my cables have been replaced by OBBM cables...I even have some spare ones now. I even bought a new Guitar Amp-Cab Cable...just to make it all the same

If youve got some cash to spare...sell it and get a second hand Bergantino NV610. Problem solved.
20. Definitely agree, Got some awesome advice, sold my items to some awesome chaps and bought some from some awesome chaps. Recently Nigel and Clarky, oh and Iamapirate. Everyone I have met has been very friendly and 100% genuine. Its totally different to the dreaded ebay! My GAS has got a LOT worse though...but I dont mind that. Ive tried lots of different styles of playing recently too, due to all of basschats influences. Its a great place to be!
21. Im loving the P Bass love! Great basses! My GAS for basses is up once my Lakkie gets here. But next year, 62 Reissue P or 75 Reissues J!
22. Punk vs Metal...Punk wins In all seriousness, the Ampegs seem to be more warm and vintage like. Thats the ones I tried anyway. You might start to really like it! I used to love a really over the top bright sound, but Ive realised it sometimes stops it sounded bassy enough. I still occasionally do it mind. I reckon boost the mids. Most metal bands ive heard suck all the mids....all the time. If the guitars have mids decreased, have a little boost on your mids.
23. Talkbass have very good reviews of the New York 121. Such a small and light cab! Pretty incredible engineering to be fair. Id love one! Or two!
24. Plug in P or J, play. Thats usually it. I dont like having lots of average options and a few good ones. I just like a few REALLY good tones. Sometimes a bit more picky when it comes to the Stingrays...but I usually have a little bass boost...mids slight boost, treble left flat.
25. Im pretty similar....so im quitting the rather dull job, the band (I love the chaps I play with as they are all old friends, but Ive moved on) and moving to London. I hate coming home from work and thinking 'is this it?' after studying for a degree for 3 years and a post grad for 2. My advice, make plans....move to a bigger more exciting place. I have to..I have no choice.
