1. Im hoping to get a Mono case soon, and more Berg in the future.
2. I know it applies more to their guitar cabinets, but the Orange cabinets are made from 13 ply high density 18mm birch plywood. I know that guitar cab wise, it has a shockingly goods effect, along with the V30s, in giving the guitar so much low end and 'heavyness' /darker tone. Is this an example of fast labour? Even if it is, they are so much better tone wise than every other guitar cabinet ive heard, And Ive heard a LOT. Ive not A/B'd my Orange bass cabs as yet....but they do seem to be really thick and chunky is terms of tone, and they are made from the same wood. Ok, it weighs a fair bit, but sometimes you just have to build it in that way to get that huge sound. Im not talking about anything scientific, all Im talking about is the end result; tone. Tone is more important than any other factor.
3. Ive tried a few tube guitar amps for bass and it was lacking. It just doesnt sound that sweet.
4. Will a Mono fit a Lakland Joe Osborn 5 (35 scale) ? If so, then it will fit all of my basses.
5.
Just spotted this, similar to bass in OP but in shiny new look and half the price! http://www.classicandcoolguitars.co.uk/bas...1962reissue.htm
WOW!!!!!
6. I started back vox years back and now I have no problem. In the future I hope to be able to split the songs between a few main vocalists, one being me. I know I can hold a note or make a lot of noise, so Im happy!
7. Oh heck, I didnt want to ruin the thread with a 'VS' topic. The customer service Ive got from Orange has been absolutely amazing. Yes, they do produce them in much larger numbers, and yes I agree the Matamp after service sounds great. But, there has to be a reason why I was drawn to the Orange, and that was tone. I never thought I'd go down the Orange route until I inspected the amp, then heard it a a low then high volume. I was sold. Plus, it is one of the most striking amps I have seen. IMO, the Orange + Matamp amps are some of the best tube amps built nowadays. I rate them both much higher than Ampeg; at least they are based in the UK thus much easier to get sorted out. As soon as I bought mine, I realised 2-3 of my favourite bands, including Converge, ETID and Alk Trio all use the AD200b Mk3, and they have awesome tone when Ive seen them live.
8.
you couldn't be further from the truth! they both started as the same company, but thats about the only resemblance they share nowadays! The circuitry and build quality are miles apart. in regards to dirty though, have you ever cranked a hiwatt chris? if i were you i'd keep an eye out for a roost / vintage hiwatt / soundcity 120 or even nab that simm watts head that keeps appearing on ebay and let me do it up for you ;>
I know they are different inside, and the whole PTP argument, but the sound? On that night, very similar.
9.
Ive never liked P basses but this thread s giving my gas. I don't no whats the matter with me
No matter what basses a player owns, EVERYONE needs a proper Precision. Something about the sound/look draws me in everytime.
10.
Cheers Poncho, Ive emailed you
BUMP

13.
If there's anyone still in this thread Some people expressed an interest in the white 62 RI. An incoming sunburst version of the same thing (which is what I really wanted all along ) means that both japanese Precisions are now up for grabs: - Fender Japan 62 Re-issue Vintage White/Tort/Rosewood, non-export CIJ £350 - Fender Japan 1980's '57 Re-Issue CAR/White/Maple non-export MIJ £350 Small pic on the first post Here I'll do a for sale thread as soon as I've go the sunburst and made sure it's the right bass for me but this is a heads up and invitation to PM for pictures. Send me an email address and I'll link you to the webshots galleries for each. Thanks OG
I had a fair fews PMs for my 62 reissue, so you will no doubt get plenty after it! Good price as well As much as I wanted to keep it, I cannot just keep things forever. Good luck
14. I am of the view that the Matamp and Orange heads are very very similar. I was playing a gig a few weeks back, and the headlining band, The Plight, (incredible modern rock n roll band with hardcore influences) had a GT200. The band before had the Orange AD200b. As Im Fender biased, the Orange sounded better, as the GT200 had a Thunderbird plugged into it. But they BOTH sounded fantastic, boutique, and more importantly, very dirty. But not in a such a way that there was no clarity. In a few years, im going to get a custom Matamp as well, so that way ill have both. Thats if London doesnt rinse me of all of my earnings!
15. This is now sold pending the usual. THanks for all the intrestest and support. Sorry to the guys who didnt get it; I replied to the PMs in order of time received.
16.
I take that as a compliment to Aguilar
Me too. In fact, the inside build on these cabs is great. Im no cab builder, but it looks extremely well made.
17. Finbar, I agree with the tone with Glassjaw. I love their bass sound. If you want my opinion, after wondering around the world of dirty tube amps, the Orange AD200b Mk3 is perfect for when you need a good dirty sound at levels where you still can hear the drums and guitar! Plus, if you want to push it louder, it will give you all the volume you want. I never realised how loud a tube amp could be until I played around with it. At 1/3 master, 1/2 gain, its seriously loud with lots of volume left. The sheer low end 'heft' is insane. I suggest the Orange or a dirty Matamp. The problems with the Ampeg SVT CL is its weight, and the fact it has to be cranked a lot higher to give you real grit. I a/b'ed the Orange with the Ampeg CL and VR, and the Orange won hands down. Not only that, but the second hand market for Orange and Matamp is better, should you ever sell. Ampeg isnt as 'boutique' unless you get a vintage one. No doubt a Matamp voiced to be dirty would be the same.
18. Yep, my DB212s are full of yellow 'padding' inside. I did the same, looked in the port. Its usual. There must be some reason for it.....not sure what.
19. Those Monos look great. Guess ill get saving....
20. Lovely bass! Now...I hope when Im a little older I can get down to some hunting for a vintage P and vintage J. I have what I class as the some of the best of the modern Fenders, now I need the old school.
21. Im getting one with the Lakland JO5...maybe I should wait and see what that is like? Think its a Levy type soft case. I dont want to spend too much as usually the hardcases are my favoured option....I dont like my basses unprotected and ive seen what happens with poor gig bags. Some of the soft cases ive seen are just as large as a hardcase! I do like the Sadowsky softcases....maybe something like that or a really strong gig bag with padding.
22. Hi Its become obvious to me that sometimes I dont need the hardcases I have. Certain gigs require the entire band in one large car with amp heads, guitars/bass and basic drums. So, we have all decided that it would easier to each get one decent 'soft' case. Ive had some truely awful ones in my time....what do you recommend? It will be used to carry any one of my basses. Thanks
23.
The JO5 is a superb bass - I'd be happy to have another. You'll love it.
Thanks
24. Probs the best £40 for a cab ever, these things are like tanks.
25.
I've played a Precision or two and I can say with some confidence that the Jap '62 RIs are amongst the best. They have something that you don't seem to find in contemporary MIA Precisions or other Jap models (although I've not played an MIA 2008/9 model which I understand to be vastly improved on earlier non-vintage MIA instruments). If it's anything like the two MIJ Precisions I've owned it will be lightweight yet solid, sweet yet powerful, and bl**dy well built; the Oly White finish is just the icing on the cake Chris

excellent bass
Cheers guys
