This is why I started playing bass.......
That's the only Precision I ever heard that sounds like that. I always thought it sounded more like a Rickenbacker, ala Chris Squire. Anyway, it's an awesome, rough sound.
I can definitely get that kinda sound with a low action, fresh roundwounds, fairly heavy pick, played closer to the bridge. I managed it a solid state Trace but without the grit, and the Orange definitely does it. Its all in le strings/technique and an EQ fiddle I tell thee....I love a phat P Bass sound, but I also love a cutting dirty P bass sound. -
I have to say if it sounds like a MM, thats brilliant. As much as I steer clear usually from onboard active/preamps as im a passive guy normally, the MM Stingray EQ is so bloody good. Powerful, easy, and reliable. Hope you are still enjoying it

That looks amazing! Im really impressed. The reddish tort was the only thing I never was 100% keen on, so that has made the bass look perfect! Yep..Olympic White or Sunburst are officially my favourite colours. Oly White on a P just WORKS... Re: Clarkys now ex-P, here she blows....but still with the Fender Black guard. Im keeping it on until i fancy a change back to the stock Tort, which Clarky has looked after and kept it mint. http://basschat.co.uk/index.php?showtopic=56307 I think an Oly White P Bass bash in London is in order. Clarky's P5, my P4 and Nigel's P4

Looks great....wish I could hear it!!!!

This is why I love Precisions! -
Hi Nigel Im truely disappointed that they didnt just lose their 'cost' on this item and refund you. I actually think they have sold you a faulty item, and I would contact Fender UK asap. They have an email address on their website. Make sure you tell them who sold you it for a start, and then say you want something doing about it. I mean, whats £20-30 for a business compared to 7000 ppl on here never going back to them. Disgusting. I am currently in dispute over something at the moment and Im hoping it gets resolved, otherwise I will be doing the same and putting it on here. I dont think its fair for the customer to lose out of faulty goods....EVER! Cheers
go down the route....go down the route the 2 DB112s sound amazing!!
I almost did! But I realised my DB212s are already more cab than I need! I recommend DB cabs all the way
Thats an Ampeg he's using there tho, with orange cabs. Innit
Whoops...I only saw the cabs and presumed. Plus id seen him with the AD200b before. Perhaps he has both?!

All my new Fender's came with silica gel in the case. Should I take it out or leave it in?!
-
The great thing ive really been impressed with is the the weight. These basses I have are very consistent weights and brilliantly light. Basically, a P bass is an essential bass for any bassists setup! Everyone needs a least one.

I have 2 x the new 08/09 series. Fantastic. Just try them out before you buy. Certainly are the best 'new' Fender basses for a long time. The new case/bridge/tuners/fboards/neck are very very worthwhile.
Yeah but that's the same with any bass guitar, or instrument in general, that isn't a vintage Fender lol Si
I know we all loose a fair bit, but with the high end custom, especially the more bizarre types, the sellers seem to lose a hell of a lot. More than id expect or want to lose.
-
Ive decided to steer clear of custom. Purely because I get what I want with stock instruments once Ive found one I like. In addition, I take a long time to decide, so Id be forever changing my mind. Shuker JJB seems awesome though...but thats more of a boutique signature instrument. Im sticking with basses I know I like. My next will be a Fender American Reissue, but not for some time. My other issue is that if you sell a custom...you never usually get the value back that it should retain.

These guys might be a bit much for some peoples tastes, but I actually think they ain't bad. I not listening to much really heavy stuff recently, but these chaps do it very well.
Sold Gareth my MIA P-bass (to pay for dave_bass5's lookalike Oly white P5). Gareth was a pleasure to do business, very straightforward and accommodating. We exchanged the bass in a pub which is always a good thing! Cheers Gareth and good luck with the flat-hunting in London

I was in the pub at the same time, to pick up Gareth's 1996 MIJ '62 RI Precision. The bass was in amazing condition as he had owned it from new and REALLY looked after it. He's a top bloke to do business with. A total gent and completely trustworthy. Thanks G, I'm really enjoying the bass All the best, Nigel
Cheers chaps!

Just bought Clarky's 2009 Fender P and it has TI flats on it. I LOVE how they feel. I have yet to amplify this bass properly as everything is in different rooms! I will no doubt miss the bite, but I wanted something totally different. Are they normally a little fatter in the low end? I noticed when I had a brief 5 mins at very low volume through a friends Marshall guitar combo that the tone control is much better for flats...eg roll it back and 'whump'...half way and its perfect!
-
Nigel is a top fella! Met in a pub near Oxford St Tube, and gave over my old faithful bass, a MIJ 62 Reissue Precision. Im glad that you like the bass Nigel, and thanks for the help and the coffee! Im very happy to meet fellow bassists, and Nigel is one trustworthy guy! He even paid for the bass 1 week in advance! Im sure we will have a few drinks and a bass update when I move down. Cheers Gareth

Oww Nigel! Im also annoyed this hasnt gone right as I was looking forward to the modded version! I think you have every right to send it back, and I cannot believe they have tried to 'get out of it'. Its not like an £800 bass....its a pickguard. Why they cant help out is beyond me! I think a firm phonecall is in order. Anyone else?
-
£679! Seriously?!??! Right...im am skint. But I really want one! Dammit. C card?! I never use it. Perhaps I have to now

+ 1 DB cabs are great...the 12 cabs are definitely my favourite though.
