1.
I'm thinking of starting a Stickleback tribute band!
Yes you could be the Largemouth Bass Player
 2.
There are few bands that you can genuinely say you have no idea what to expect. Off the top of my head, the only one I can think of is The Cardiacs.
I love the Cardiacs - I'd say that they don't sound like other bands, but there's a definite "harmonic DNA" to their music which defines the sound. "harmonic DNA" I made this up and even I think its Bollocks.
 3.
I think you meant... Reely, it's ok, I'm net biting.
Bream on...
 4.
Which level is that? Sea level?
No much lower - Shark Sh*t.
 5. "Twerk" a northern term used to by bass players with an early Mesa Walkabout - "Hang on I'm just trying to get this T'werk"
 6. Joe Strummer played bass on Guns of Brixton when Paul Simenon took vocals - well live anyway
 7. One concept album that I repeatedly listen to is Stainless Style by Neon Neon (2007)
 8. I had an early Walkabout combo that had circuit board design issues, mind you it was well made and sounded great when it worked - moved it on and bought a S/H Walkabout (which incidentally isn't to easy to walkabout with as a combo) which has been faultless. Briefly owned a Prodigy head - which I just didn't like.
 9.
Go West always just sounds like a total drum machine backing to me. Am I alone on that?
No, you are not alone.
 10.
I don't agree (I mean, where is the distortion? ), but he is very good and worth a listen.
Distortion you say? ...
 11. Over the years I think JB has put his name to a number of good and realistically priced instruments and this Cort line is another. I'd like to read that Bass Guitar Magazine interview.
 12.
He has actually said it consistently in most of his interviews to anyone who would listen. He also has a severe downer on active basses.
Ok When? - I ask, as over the years I've been a fan of JB's playing (well, before he found a chorus pedal) and I can't recall this - what I've read is that a five isn't his instrument and that he prefers passive pickups - but I'd like your source as its an interview that I'd be interested in reading or watching.
 13.
Slightly bizarre when Mr Berlin has spent years telling everyone who'd listen how unnecessary 5-string basses are!
When did he say this?
 14.
Yes... Did a gig on Saturday and the supplied bass amp turned out to be a Fender Rumble 500 combo, which I believe runs at around 350 watts without an 8ohm extension cab. Had no expectations about it and was quite surprised to find it was really bloody loud at around 40% on the master. Amazingly hefty sound, too. And lightweight! We need to understand that an amp's wattage rating is really no indication of its perceived 'loudness'.
Ah the Fender Rumble Combo - I rehearsed with a 100w one of these for months (supplied by the rehearsal room) it was never out of puff - they traded 'up' to an Ampeg and I had to start taking my own gear again.
 15.
All they're saying is they want the bass forward in the mix.
It's not unknown that guitarists muddy the overall sound - it may be worth considering this, as the band sound is a joint venture
 16.
My new band has asked me to find a bass sound that cuts through "to the point where some other bands might complain about it".
I may have missed something - why would you want the bass to cut through "to the point where some other bands might complain about it".
 17. A cool bass? Pretty much any one that I'm not playing
 18. We always get in touch with the sound engineer for an unfamiliar venue. We tell him what instrumentation and vocals we have and he advises us on any problems that may arise. The end result is there are no surprises and we can focus on the gig. Otherwise we hire our own PA.
 19. Soundman - "Could you turn your back-line down a bit ? Me - "yes, of course but you'll need to give me a monitor mix so I can hear myself" Soundman - "Here's your monitor, we'll sort out a mix at soundcheck" Me - "Thanks - have a great night"
