1. Nice - I recently took delivery of Super Midget - it is ridiculously good
2. Hi Borno70 (Quotes don't work on this connection) Its an ETS system.
3. I spoke with Adrian this morning - this should be with me next week.
4. I asked Scott Thunes to bless my marriage - he did and we're now divorced.
5. http://youtu.be/xOHNYFIDLpc its the only way you'll get me near 'The Blues'
6. But if I got a call to play on a rock gig I'd be more inclined to reach for a Precision or a Thunderbird than for a Mustang. Well, that's your call.. I misread your earlier post to imply that a short scale bass was in some way unable to 'make the grade' for certain styles of music; having played Precisions for 25 years before my current squeeze I wondered which styles these were.
7. Either way - I've just had a session with the 'Who Killed Nancy Johnson', You tube collection and enjoyed it.
8. "Very surprised at the suggestions that a shortscale sounds just like a longscale. Quite clearly YMMV, but every shortscale I've owned (= lots) sounds markedly different to a longscale, with a greater degree of "thuddiness" which works very well for some things (blues, reggae, quite a bit of light jazz) but not so for other things." May I ask which are the musical styles that you consider a short scale to be less suited? - just curious.. My Mustang does a mean P Bass tone and I'm yet to find a musical style where a P bass doesn't work
9. Your Indonesian Squier VM P5 will do it all.
10. My current personal favourite is an Indonesian Squier VM 5.with flats. But put the soloed sound (which I like a lot) to one side a minute, I've never seen a band where a P bass sound didn't work.
11. Yes indeed, why upgrade it..I understand the counter arguments - there are others around, buy a Yamaha, buy an Ibanez, This bass stands on its own - the Squier price point could lead one to think that its a piece of rubbish to be avoided, OK I've tweaked mine, but total spend for me has been a shade over £300 and it sounds awesome.
12. What Dood said, I owned the Demeter and A/B'd it against the power section of a Markbass LM3 - very little difference.
13. Sorry - its a thread about modifying a Squier VM P 5 bass - sounds like you had a bad experience of doing this - which bass was it?
14.
I wouldn't spend money on such cheap instrument if the part ain't broken. If it was me i would sell it and buy another bass, for the same money, with better sound/components (won't say wich but you know what i'm talking about )
Oh... I'm really sorry to read this, which one did you own?
15. Just for full disclosure - My upgrade path has been. Dunlop strap locks - Which all of my basses have A Sandberg Bridge - The BBOT was its weakest feature and I like the Sandberg design A Kiogon replacement loom - fitted after the tone pot developed a noise I made some spacers for under the string tree. It still makes me smile every time I play it..
16. My personal favorite Squier VM P5 - its just a great Bass, my other 5 string is an Xotic XP-5 which is also great but both active and passive - one is a tenth the price of the other
17. I've used a bass buddy to drive a Phil Jones powered cab - which works really well. If you were looking to have a physically small rig I'd buy a combo just to save dicking around with cables and power supplies
18. I wondered if anyone else had come across the Youtube Channel - Real Bass Lessons....? Berklee Professor Jim Stinnett - they seem to be aimed at the novice / intermediate player and Jim presents them with warmth and authority - its easy viewing and quite refreshing from some of the Toss that's out there
19. I have a dislike / tolerate relationship with FB. I'm currently on my third account. I keep and eye on stuff of interest, but no friends and don't post, I screwed down all of the privacy settings and so don't receive anything from it, When I log on I find it quite amusing that I get recommendations of people I may know.
20. Fast turnaround, excellent tracked service and new P bass loom fitted in minutes a repeat and happy customer - highly recommended
21. Having had a listen to Last flight to Pluto album sampler - the ideal bass to suit the band has to be a twin neck...
22. Realising that I was in the 'The prog band that doesn't want to progress' I'd laugh a lot and then ask what was 'appropriate'...
23. If you're happy with the P bass, I'd stick with that and get an amp that compliments it..
24. ^ I understand the desire to change out stuff on a £250 bass and as previously stated I've done it myself. On this bass the only thing that I don't like on this bass is the bridge which I may change for a Sandberg - not so much for the high mass, but more I just like that design. For the money didn't know what to expect, but I'm delighted with mine and it brings a stupid smile to my face when I play it. <Edit> Ref how did it sound up-pugged? - this is a point of note, I knew from the moment I was unboxed that this bass would sound good.
