1. All gig booking is done through one of the band who applies the rates without the baggage of 'as its him, I said we'd do it for..'
2. I saw Omar Hakim and band with Sting on the Blue Turtles tour - in Manchester I stress the point that me and my mates went to see Omar Hakim at the time Weather Reports drummer, Darryl Jones Ex Miles Davis and Branford Marsalis - we didn't go to see Sting, although others did
3. Back in the day I had no issues with Silverstone, anyway I used Hot Covers recently and their service / product was superb.
4. Ian bought my Roscoe, a rapid and hassle free deal - highly recommended.
5. Musical blind spots, for me are areas of music that I've not been 'introduced' to, rather than genres or artists 'I don't get...'
6. I so want to turn up for a rehearsal armed with that. Looks great not for me at this time though - GLWYS
7. Given that the drummer can't realistically memorise all of the tempos of the songs in our set list - we bought (as a band) one of these I can recommend them highly. 8. Other 'blind spots' of mine are Classical and Folk music.
9. As a teenager I bought records on recommendation from friends and what I liked on the radio. naturally, I had many blind spots to music which lay outside of this grounding. Over the years I have listened to a lot of stuff and World Music (Africa / Asia / South America) remains an unknown.

11. Luck - Being in the right place at the right time.
12.
The quote thingy has got buggered up somewhow by my fat fingers, and i can't seem to edit it. Sorry for the multiquote.
No worries - book and promote your own gig.
13. So how did he get to "You'll Never work In This Town Again...." has it escalated since or is he 'Colin Corleone'?
14. I haven't, but if you know what you want you could discuss your requirements with Aaron Armstrong - http://www.armstrongpickups.co.uk/ - excellent service too.
15. At the moment I play everything with a pick, if the music doesn't call for the no holds barred, balls to the wall approach I apply some palm muting.
16. There are no songs that would make me run away from an audition. An unprofessional, that will be good enough, we don't bother with that bit, half arsed attitude to working at rehearsals will make me run away.
17. I think the key thing is to ask yourself - 'Do I really like Jazz?' Because if you don't its a lonely place. In my formative years on bass I studied Jazz, worked a lot on music theory and listened to many artists and played in some intense local Jazz projects, but I have never 'got' Jazz - and other than a John Coltrane or Eric Dolphy solo non of it makes the hairs on the back of my neck stand on end
18.
True, but you need to remember Scott is generally talking to a load of folk who are new to the world of bass.

There's some serious cheese-sniffing going on in that jam!

That was a great jam. Scott, I apologise.
That 'jam' could only be improved if Joss Stone dropped by to lay down some vocals, but the main lesson that Scott can present here is that a novice bass player will never get that much space when a guitarist is present
19. For me its about playing music and I play and enjoy playing a range of instruments and find a personality within each one. In terms of GAS - so long as you are not putting yourself or family under undue financial stress go for it, buy what you like and enjoy it.
20. I spend around 75% of my time playing stuff that the band will never do.
21.
Google says 'a business serving a sophisticated or specialized clientele' - which can't be right..... However, the brilliant Urban Dictionary says "In musical instruments, a specialized brand of very high end, usually handmade items made in small numbers. Generally a term applied to brands like… Guitar amps like Matchless, Diezel, Trainwreck, Wizard, etc. Basses like Status Buzzard, Ken Smith, Tobias, etc. Guitars like Pensa, Manson, Rick Turner, Alembic, etc." - which sounds more like it.
Neither sources mentioning Neo, Lightweight as specifications for Boutique then?
22.
Well, it might be what you like, but that doesn't make it good.
This has blown my mind... thanks it's almost Zen like 👍
23. I'm still struggling with the definition of 'boutique' - I bought all of my amps second hand - are they still boutique, is it Neo speakers that makes them boutique, or does a badge make them boutique, or is boutique a euphemism for lightweight?
