1. Our drummer is a bit eratic, forgetting how songs end, speeding up and slowing down but he`s a great guy. A while ago we had a dep for a few gigs. Whoa, what a drummer! Great timekeeping, inventive without being too flashy. But, as I have got to know him, I have found out that he`s a bit of a tool and has such an attitude that the band he is in, is imploading round about him. Sometimes you are better sticking with the "tub thumper" (hope that doesn`t upset anyone) you know. Jez
2. Guitarguitar had a similar one in Glasgow Rich and it was £1500. That was about 18 months ago when I was buying a Jazz. I told the guy at the time that he wouldn`t get that for it and he said they would as it was "vintage g&l". Last time I saw it it was £1000. Jez
3. Don`t start calling drummers musicians, they`ll be wanting the same amount of money that the rest of the band get! Jez
4. +1 for the Status hotwires. And they are about £19 a set posted. Got them on my P bass and my G&L. Jez
5.
Ahh. So he's not famous, because all the famous people on here have already been eaten by trolls or died in clinics.
Or are hiding behind the fridge. Jez
6. Just in case Jeff drops in as he can`t go on Crapbass anymore, I have removed the comment I made about his `tache! I feel clean now Jez
7.
The amount of 70's blues/rock bands that are out there is stunning, it's just drivel
Funny you saying that Wayne. I was talking to a drummer from that type of band who do the pubs up here and they are knocking it on the head as they can`t get gigs whereas we are having to knock back gigs. And they are much better players than us but thay ain`t playing what Joe public wants to hear at the mo. Luckily, we realise that we are entertainers and play what the public want!! Latest bassline learned: Year of the cat by Al Stewart for no particular reason. Jez
8.
Is Jason Marsh famous?
He`s not as famous round here as Tim. Talkbass-Latin for crap. Jez
9. I can`t help you with any info regarding the model but that centre knob looks like it may have been a stacked pot, meaning for example that the bottom half controls the bass and the top half the bass. Or it could be some active/passive switch. Sorry for the lack of info but someone far more knowlageable than me should be along shortly Jez
10. I read an interview, I think it was in bass guitar mag a couple of years ago, with Glen Matlock in which he said that he was using a Mexican P bass that Fender gave him as a pressie rather than taking out his 60`s P whilst out with the pistols. Jez
11. Good wee basses them and for £25!!! I think that you must be a closet Scotsman WaynemcPunkdude. And your favourite finish as well. Jez
12. Shinkicker One man`s meat is another man`s posion. Get a bass that sounds good and feels good. Some people like passive basses, some like active basses. I own a G&L which is an active bass but you can run it in passive mode by flicking a switch and this is how I use it. Most rock/blues music was/is made on passive basses, usually Fenders. A lot of the modern bands, especially in the metal fraternity go for active basses, Ibanez, ESP etc. They are all good, it`s just down to what you prefer. Bear in mind that if you buy a P or a Jazz bass and really like it, you can update the passive circut to an active circut by adding a pre amp or you could use an external pedal such as a Sansamp or a Tonehammer to give yourself more tonal options. But as usual, the advice is go to the shop and try as many as you can. Jez
13. Nice looking bass Dave and a fair price, especially considering the recent price hike for all things Fender. It`s £550 for a Mexican standard now. Unbelieveable! I had a sunburst HW a couple of years back and it was a really good gigging bass. Looks really good with the black pickgaurd. I have no cash at the mo but have a bump. Jez
14. I plead a special dispensation. I`m doing a gig on the saturday night and it will be a late one otherwise I would be there. Question. What to do - play a gig, get paid and mabye have some fun with the ladies afterwards or drive for 1.5 hours to spend time with some hairy ars*d blokes and bass guitars? Sorry folks!! Jez
15. An assortment of womens clothes, leather codpiece, wig, mirrored aviators and possibly a hat. Cheers for that, cheered up my sunday! Jez
16.
Looks like you're on your own on this one Wayne PS, the moon is not made of cheese - fact
I think that Wallace of Wallace and Gromit fame would disagree with ya Clarky. Next thing you`ll be telling me the world is round and not flat. Jez
17. Steven, Steven.............. I thought that you were happy with this one? Where is it all gonna end? Have a bump in case the deal don`t go through. Jez
18. Aye H D, I fell for it hook line and sinker! Nice one! But as Burrito says, it will soon be true! Jez
19. Thanks for posting the pics Keir. Just reminded me how good looking the sunburst ray was. After using it for a few gigs, I found that it was too heavy too play for 2.5 hours at a time. It was doing my shoulder in but it was one of the best looking ray`s I have seen. I sold it to an actor/semi pro guy called Craig from Knightswood who was well happy with it. And that white 60`s Jazz was a cracker too! But I am back firmly in the G& L family now and fully intend to stay there. Jez
20. The biggest give away is defo the logo. You would think that if you were gonna fake it, you would at least buy a decent fake logo. It`s not as if there aren`t a few kicking about. Also wrong: the tuners, string tree, vol and tone knobs. It looks not too bad a bass, if he sold it as what it is, a bass worth about £60 it could be a good buy. Or, it might be a pile of kack. Jez
21. I haven`t really heard much of their stuff apart from a couple of singles. I take it from the comments here, I wouldn`t be wasting my cash getting a best of? Jez
22. Looking at the green woodstain, I wonder if it ever belonged to Francis Rossi? What does he mean by the term "proper spacing"? I think that soemone bought it to rip out the pickups and use the body for firewood. Jez
23.
The hardest thing I found with Best of You is a singer who can get all the words out without collapsing...
Aye, but you`ve got to admit, it`s quite funny when they collapse of oxygen stavation to what little brain they have. Jez
24. One of my neighbours bought an accoustic from SR for £45 and came up and asked me to tune it for him as he didn`t have a tuner. Did the biz, and it stayed in tune for oohh 30 seconds. He has never played before and he asked me what I thought of his new purchase. I gave him my honest opinion, it`s kack, haven`t seen him since!! £45? I`ve spent more than that on a strap! So, no jam nights in my close! Having said that, the bass may be dinky doo! Jez
25. I think £500 is a bit low as Far East guitars usually sell them for around £650. Having said that, he is a business seller but as you say yours is mint Tom and I haven`t seen many sunburst one`s about, I would say about the £600 mark. Anyway, where`s the piccy or do we need to wait for the sale thread? Jez
