1. I had a Affinity P bass for a while as a back up and it was a good piece of kit. Defo an alder body as above and had I kept it and spent a few quid on upgrdes, I would have used it as a gigging bass. For £70 you can`t go wrong. They will not be Jap, more than likley Indonesia but does it really matter where a bass is made these days? And look at it this way, if you don`t like it you can sell it and get your money back. Jez
2. Is it just the way the photo looks or does that neck look "mandolin size"? I`m telling ya, a Fender transfer on the end and you would not know the differance. Better buy one quick as he only has more than 10 available. Jez
3. Aye Steven, I seen it and had a chuckle. It will play any large venue until it heats up and goes up in a puff of smoke!! And you haven`t got a back up!! Funny, but he doesn`t mention that in the ad. Jez
4. That is one ugly bass! A Jazz body without a pickup in the bridge postion? It`s just not right. And who is gonna play the Dog and Duck with a pink bass? Not me girls! Jez
5. If you put gold tuners on it, the next thing you know you`ll be wearing a camel hair coat and saying "Rodney, you plonker"! Or mabye not. Jez
6. Thanks for the info regarding the Ronseal GW. Did you give it several coats? Re the "upset" comment. A while ago I posted a pic of my VMJ with a rather nice Fender logo and someone mentioned that you shouldn`t replce the transfer as you might be trying to rip someone off by passing it off as a Fender. Some people have too much times on their hands Jez
7. That`s really tasty GW. Like the Fender decal, gauranteed to upset a few people on here What was the varnish/stain that you used on the headstock and how did you get it looking so good? I`ve a G&L and the only thing that I don`t like about it is the pale matt finish headstock so any advice would be appreciated. Jez
8. Here`s the easy answer to the question. They do sound different but the main point is what one do YOU prefer. Go to the guitar shop, play a Jazz, a P, a MM etc and buy the one that suits you best regarding sound, weight, cost, look........ Easy peasy! Jez
9.
WARNING!!!! That girl is not....I repeat NOT!!! A girl. It's big hairy arsed guy.
Spoilsport! Jez
10.
I have got a P but I don't think it'd suit the look so I'm thinking my natural Jazz would suit the image better. Cheers I've never worked with a conductor before so I'll need to practice that.
I did a production once. The conductor was garbage! Kept asking to see my ticket! Jez (My coat is already on and I am out the door).
11. So let`s get this right. Most of you like it apart from the Jazz neck, the Jazz pup, the colour, the badass, the price and the scratchplate. But apart from that, we love it! Another BC winner!! Jez
12. How many more times am I going to say on here that G&Ls DO NOT do Musicman. It's impossible - the pups are wrong and the eq is just "hell no". Could not have agreed with you more. There is lots of posts on Talkbass along this line. If you want a stingray sound, guess what? buy a Stingray. Easy peasy. Having owned both, I prefer the G&L but that`s just my opinion. And I agree with you McNach, the natural finish is really tasty. Jez
13.
Must buy a Jag, must buy a Jag, ARGH!!!!!
Sod the Jag Wayne, buy this. I nearly bought it in August and it was like new. And more than likely still is! Jez
14. Price hikes? Your damm tootin!! £500 for a Mexican P bass in Guitarguitar? I remember not so long ago, they were about £360. Or was I imagining it? Rip off ba*tar*s all of em!! Manufacturers, distributurs, the shop`s and the goverment. Jez
15. Don`t know what the differance in the type of strings are but I use Status flatwounds and they are great strings. I have bought their Premnium roundwound in the past and they were good as well. Good all round and not too expensive. Jez
16. It always amazed me that Jack Bruce played upright bass as where he came from in Glasgow, a reservation called Pollock, is like Beruit without the good weather. The two things just don`t seem to go together. Says the Paisley man. Pot and yes, kettle. Burrito man, that`s the guy I was talking about. Well done! Jez
17.
And wasn't there some band in the '60s where the bassist played one of these? Can't remember the name of the band ... but maybe they were from Liverpool?
Aye, a Hofner one, whereas the guy in the Crowes played the Epiphone one as above. Yarrrr Jez
18. Looks like an alright bit of kit. Only thing that would put me off is the resale value compared to a Squier. But if you are looking to keep a hold of it for a while, it could be a good buy. Jez
19. I`ve got a Black Crowes dvd called Cabin Fever and although I haven`t played it in a while, I`m sure that the bass player plays a similar bass on a few of the tracks. Looks good, sounds good, £200, all adds up to a happy bass player. Jez
20. Good on ya Geoff!! Getting out there and doing it is what it`s all about. A good trick that we employ is to play a song in the first set and if it goes down really well, is to say that someone has requested that we do it again in the second set. We get away with it as most people are well pissed by then. Jez
21.
thanks for that Burrito, I thought broken nuts were quite rare
You haven`t fallen out with my missus yet. Jez
22. I`m suprised that this hasn`t gone yet. Bargain!! Tell you what, I`ll swap it for a genuine Fender decal. They are worth £50 you know.... Jez
23. Found this shop. Some nice gear. http://www.chicagomusicexchange.com/categories/Bass/ Jez
24. I wouldn`t get the Standard Squire and if you don`t fancy the VMJ due to the maple board, have a shot of the Classic Vibe Jazz as it has a rosewood board and is a large step up from the standard for not a lot of dosh more. Also, the pickups in the standard will be somewhat lacking in quality if you want to be a lead instrument. I have never have though that Jazz pickups are thin and tinny but hey, that`s only my opinion. Don`t know if it would suit the kind of music that you want to play but I have never bought into a particular bass being right for a particular knind of music. I think that John Wetton played a P bass in King Crimson back in the day. It`s the old saying, play as many different basses as you can until you find one that suits. Jez
25. This is a great topic and this question has had me thinking for a while. Let`s see if I have got it right. I drop the bottom string to E flat but still play the A in the 5th fret position as normal and it sounds a semi tone lower? And this makes it easier for the singer? And is this called concert pitch? Answers on a post card please..... Jez
