The local crack converters in Paisley has one of these in for £150. It`s black with a matching headstock and a mirror scratch plate and looks a nice piece of kit. Didn`t have time to have a shot but it was very nice. Even though the Indonesian ones don`t get the write up that the Chinese ones, my VMJ was made there and it`s good and I have had an Affinity P and it was good as well. Jez

Nah, leave the tort on, it looks the biz. Don`t you think that white basses look the dog dangalies? Jez

Well seeing as we have verified the origin of the body, I`m gonna buy it right away - wibble wibble. It would be quite easy to spot the original owner of the bass anyway. Just look for someone who uses a blowtorch for a plectrum. Jez

Re Mustang Sally: we play it mabye every 2nd gig but only if it`s a few tasty girls doing the backing vocals on it. No girls, no Mustang. Shallow and a bit sexist but honest. The girls love it and so do we. I think that to be a succesfull covers band, you have to play songs that people know. You want to play the songs as well as you can, have a good time and give the punters a good time. There is no point in playing songs by obscure artists that people are not familiar with. There are plenty of bands that are scratching their ar*e or playing in the rehersal studio`s because they can`t get a gig. If you can get bookings playing more obscure stuff, good on ya! Jez

Sorry if I am confusing youz guys. What he did was disconect the internal speaker from the back of the SWR and plugged in another amp head into the external speaker socket on the back of the SWR and turned on both amps. He says that he did this to by pass the SWR amp and see if the buzzing noise was coming from the SWR head. I know, it`s bloomin crazy and I can`t really get my head round it but at least he was decent enough to put his hands up and admit what he had done. He could just have said it chucked it. I have had an e mail from him and he is willing to splash the cash for the repair/replacement. Jez

You mentioned in another post that you only use 2 strings! What are you gonna do with the other 3? Answers on a postcard to the usual address. PS Buying a bass looking like that means that you have too much disposable income. Try spending it on something sensible like mind bending drugs Jez

Thanks for the replies guys. I still haven`t got a sensible answer from him as to why he plugged in the other amp head. I have loaned him gear before and he always looks after it. Needless to say, I won`t be doing that again.... If it`s potentialy an expensive one, ah well, I always needed a better 15" bass cab. Jez

I`ve got a SWR Workingmans 15 combo. I, foolishy, gave someone a loan of it and from what I can gather he heard some buzzing through the combo and decided to disconnect the internal speaker and run an extension speaker into it to see if it was a problem with the sinternal speaker. Result, the same buzz. Then, you`ll like this, he pluged another amp head into the swr ext speaker socket and turned em both on. The SWR made a phww noise and chucked it. Having had a look at it, the fuse has blown (the one on the back of the amp head), so, I changed the fuse making sure that it is the same kind as in the manual but it keeps blowing. Any ideas? Is it goosed? Has it mabye blown something inside? Next question. Anyone know of any amp repairers in Glasgow area? Any help would be appreciated. Jez

Most of the time I could get away with a 3 string never mind a 5 stringer. I had a 5 but couldn`t get used to it at all. Jez

At over a grand now for a US Standard Jazz, there is no way I will ever buy a new Fender. If you get a decent VMJ, they are a great buy, even with the stock pickups. I really wish that people would stop talking about the CV as I have a serious attack for one. Damm you Basschat!!!! Jez

I mentioned this is another thread. Some guys I have spoken have found it hard to get gigs in the Glasgow area but they are playing rock covers stuff whereas we will play anything to get punters going. Sell out? Where do I sign? We play about 5 or 6 different places and always get asked back and get repeat bookings. I think a lot of it is down to your attitude. We turn up on time, paly for a decent amount of time, make a point of being nice to the bar manager and staff especially the bouncers, don`t play too loud, get the punters involved and play music that women want to dance too which is very important and pleasing on the eye in most cases. Money wise, we make between 200-240 between the 4 of us, which is enough for me as I would be doing it for nowt if I had too. Jez

Looking at this from a different angle, I recently traded a Status bass with a guy from NI and packed it rather well. It arrived and the guy sent me an e mail almost bemoaning the fact that it took him 30 mins to unwrap the bass. Needless to say, it arrived in one piece. You can`t please everyone. Jez

The last time I said that a bass was a keeper was when I spent £600 on a Fender Jaguar and that was about 20 basses ago! It`s being on this site that does it. You are rolling along quite happy and you look at Gear porn and say "that`s a beautiful bass" and that`s it!. Luckily, I`m now skint and can say with a certain conviction that the three I currently own are keepers. But if I had the cash..... Jez

Our drummer is a bit eratic, forgetting how songs end, speeding up and slowing down but he`s a great guy. A while ago we had a dep for a few gigs. Whoa, what a drummer! Great timekeeping, inventive without being too flashy. But, as I have got to know him, I have found out that he`s a bit of a tool and has such an attitude that the band he is in, is imploading round about him. Sometimes you are better sticking with the "tub thumper" (hope that doesn`t upset anyone) you know. Jez

USA G&L L2000 by LEO FENDER Bass Guitar 1987 pre BBE
jezzaboy replied to KERMITNT's topic in eBay - Weird and Wonderful
Guitarguitar had a similar one in Glasgow Rich and it was £1500. That was about 18 months ago when I was buying a Jazz. I told the guy at the time that he wouldn`t get that for it and he said they would as it was "vintage g&l". Last time I saw it it was £1000. Jez -
Don`t start calling drummers musicians, they`ll be wanting the same amount of money that the rest of the band get! Jez

+1 for the Status hotwires. And they are about £19 a set posted. Got them on my P bass and my G&L. Jez
Ahh. So he's not famous, because all the famous people on here have already been eaten by trolls or died in clinics.
Or are hiding behind the fridge. Jez

Just in case Jeff drops in as he can`t go on Crapbass anymore, I have removed the comment I made about his `tache! I feel clean now Jez
The amount of 70's blues/rock bands that are out there is stunning, it's just drivel
Funny you saying that Wayne. I was talking to a drummer from that type of band who do the pubs up here and they are knocking it on the head as they can`t get gigs whereas we are having to knock back gigs. And they are much better players than us but thay ain`t playing what Joe public wants to hear at the mo. Luckily, we realise that we are entertainers and play what the public want!! Latest bassline learned: Year of the cat by Al Stewart for no particular reason. Jez
Is Jason Marsh famous?
He`s not as famous round here as Tim. Talkbass-Latin for crap. Jez

I can`t help you with any info regarding the model but that centre knob looks like it may have been a stacked pot, meaning for example that the bottom half controls the bass and the top half the bass. Or it could be some active/passive switch. Sorry for the lack of info but someone far more knowlageable than me should be along shortly Jez

I read an interview, I think it was in bass guitar mag a couple of years ago, with Glen Matlock in which he said that he was using a Mexican P bass that Fender gave him as a pressie rather than taking out his 60`s P whilst out with the pistols. Jez
