1. Bump for a cracking price! Very tempting Chris. Jez
2. Jings, some of the dosh you guys get for NYE is fantastic! Want to become our agent? We usually get about £60 each doing pubs, so if I was offered £150 for a NYE gig, I`d take it. But then again, I don`t drink much and it`s better to be gigging than sitting in the house. I`d rather do a charity gig than sit in on a saturday night. Jez
3. Well Merello, there`s one way to find oot. Go and see him at the Fringe and ask him. I was a bit doubtful myself at first but what the heck, I am now a believer!! Jez
4.
I am a jazz musician. What are people?
Classic, quote of the day! Jez
5. Mr Death, these would be better off in the other musical items for sale bit. Love the name by the way. Jez Flippin heck, that was quick!! Good pickups by the way. Had one of the P`s in a Squire before and it`s a good price. Jez
6. Nice collection Pete. I really like the Jazz. You can`t beat a bass that has been modified to hell and back! Especially when you stick a Fender transfer on a Squier Jez
7. Ah, so it`s a funk band your joining I stood in for a guy one time with a band who played the songs "exactly as they were recorded" and learned them as such, only to discover when I had a play with them that, guess what they didn`t! I got the "well we do this bit slightly different than the record". For nearly every song!!! I think taking a recorder along to a gig is a good shout. If you know what your doing, it will be a piece of cake! Good luck!! Jez
8. I always take 2, one for playing the gig the other for a back up. I have never had too use a back up bass but I would hate for the main bass to go down whilst playing a gig. Back up bass is a P bass made from parts of Fenders and Squires I had lying around, that way if anything happens too it, no big deal. Jez
9. I might have the answer for you. Check your Pm`s. Jez
10. Anytime I have read about the guy or when I have seen him on interviews, he always comes across as a right decent guy. Really good of him to give you a shot of a piece of bass history. Jez
11.
I seriously think that these basses give not only the Mexican standards a run for thier money but also if set-up well the standard American versions, sadly their is a lot of Bass snobbery about the squier models even today people even go to the extent of losing the Squier decals, all very sad. You could not be more wrong about the snobbery angle. I put a Fender decal on mine so I could sell it at a grossly inflated price to an unsuspecting punter!! Nah, only did it as I like the look of the early 70`s decal. Not sad at all really :brow: Jez AKA the Forger
12. Well Guy, thanks for clearing up the "I am not in Roxy anymore debate" but how do you feel about a Guy clone being your replacement? You do realise that by "coming out of the closet" to use a expression, that when you do the Edinburgh gig, you are going to be mobbed by all the guys on this site who attend the gig demanding autographs, photo`s, bass guitars etc.... Jez
13.
Ibanez.....BLEUUGGGHH that is all . How about the Ibanez ATK's? (think they're called something else now)....basically Ibanez' answer to MM's Si
Yep the ATK is a decent bass for the price but it has a P bass size neck and feels chunky compared to Ibby`s usual slender necks. Jez
14.
Don't worry guy. I got 3 copies of your book for Christmas last year. Having already bought it myself
Cocco, I bow down at your feet. You have taken crawling to a higher level (or lower level) than I could ever hope to reach Jez
15.
hello everyone...Aren't you nice...Apart from all sharing that one book! I'm not playing for Roxy because I upset Bryan by smashing a Bass on the last night of his 2007 tour in New Zealand.. Cheers
Ah ha!! If this is Guy and the above statement is true, why are you on the Story of Roxy Music released in 2009, saying you are the bass player in Roxy? See us, we`re no daft!! This aint Talkbass ya know!!  Just in case it is you, I bought your book and have not leant it to a soul. Yes I am a crawler Jez
16. Guys, I have checked my dvd copy of the Roxy performance and it deffo aint Guy. Here is a photo of Jerry. Exhibit A M`Laud. Same bass, same hairdoo but he does look like Guy. But it`s no. Jez
17.
If you've still got it on tape/hard disc/digi box , or whatever , have a look again - it was him . I didn't think so at first , but the few shots you got of him confirmed it - just a bit more weight than his previous photos show I might be proved wrong , but I'm pretty sure .
E Sharp. Have you had an eye test recently? That aint Mr Pratt, that`s the guy who plays bass with Robbie Williams. I would reconise that black P bass anywhere. If it`s Guy, he wearing a fat suit!! I got his name, it`s Jerry Meehan. Jez Cleuso
18. Good interview with the man they call Rhino... http://www.ultimate-guitar.com/interviews/...o_f-ck_off.html Jez
19. Get a luthier to do it as you need the correct files to do it. Tried a diy approach before and take my word for it, if you don`t know what you are doing and haven`t got the right tools, it will end in tears. It doesn`t cost that much too get it done by a pro. It will be cash well spent. Jez
20. Played a pub in Motherwell last night. We hadn`t played a gig for a month or so due to holidays so we were a bit rusty. Busy enough boozer but the crowd were a bit flat, not much of a reaction. Played old stuff, new stuff made no differance. We play a pub round the corner on aregular basis and we always go down a storm and it`s always full of nice ladies!! Highlight of the night was when we were breaking the gear down and a guy chinned us for not playing In the city, his favourite. We had played it at the end of the first set and he was sitting in front of us at the time! Sort of summed up the gig. Jez
21. If he`s reading this thread, can you tell me why you weren`t playing with Roxy Music on Johnathan Ross`s last show? It was the guy who plays with Robbie Williams (cue someone who knows his name) who is a great player but the only reason I watched the bloomin show was to watch Guy on bass! Is he playing with Roxy in January when they are on tour? Jez
22. Is it the final nail in MIM coffin? Who knows. All I know is that the VMJ is a great value for money bass. I have had quite a few £600+ basses pass through my grubby mits recently and while they were great, I like playing the VMJ more. It has been upgraded with a Gotoh bridge, Wilkinson vintage style tuners, Fender 70`s logo and black Jazz knobs (ooeeerr). And lets not forget the Halfords £5 satin black paint job! As you can see, the pole pieces dont line up 100% but neither did the ones on my MIM 70`s Jazz. Downsides, it`s a bit of a heavy bugger. I might replace the pups one day but the stock ones are fine and I love the neck on it. Cost of upgrades £75. Jez
23.
What is it with all the swapping instruments all the time. And why do people pay the best part of a grand for a bass with a fancy label that doesn't even play properly. I think I inhabit a different planet sometimes
Please tell me your secret!!! I need to get on your planet quick before GAS arrives again!!!! Jez
24. An Epiphone EB3. Looked the business but sounded mince, had horrendus neck dive and cheap and nasty hardware. Sold it to a guy who wanted to be like Jack Bruce. He was on drugs for sure....(the guy not Jack!). Jez
25.
AIUI, Akkerman had a smack habit and that was part of what led to the split and being replaced by Philip Catherine. Hamburger Concerto was the last good Van Leer/Akkerman album, Mother Focus rather lost its way.
You can`t say that about Mother Focus!! What about the classic track "I need a bathroom?" Jez
