1.
well its exaclty a mix of the aerodyne and the jag, its just as much one as it is the other,,,,,,,,,,,except the jag and aerodyne dont have that nasty [s]rash[/s] squire decal on the headstock
Steve man, calm your knickers! The name on the end of the bass matters not a jot. I have a 08 Us P and a VMJ which I have upgraded with a new bridge and a better set of tuners but the bass feels and sounds great even with the stock pickups and it`s the VMJ that I`ll be gigging on friday. Nothing against the P but the neck on the VMJ is a diva, perfect for my small hands. The new Squires are really as good as people say! And as for Jags, I have said this before, I had one and was well disapointed with it and ended up moving it on. The worst active circut I have ever used on a bass. And do you know what, I haven`t regretted getting rid of it for a second. Jez
2. The new models seem to go for 620 to 670 ish, so I reckon about 520 to 560. It`s a really nice colour , sort of sonic blue. Tell you what Wayne, you buy it and I`ll swap you it for a us P in sunburst, your favourite finish! Jez
3. Lads, lads, the guy just made a simple spelling mistook. Jez
4. The width at the nut is 41mm, I think. Tino, what is there to improve? If it`s one of the newer models, stick on a set of DR Fatbeam strings and play the thing till your fingers bleed. Jez
5.
I think you may be right... and that's why I'm getting a bit of a pervy buzz off it At last, an excuse to wear a fringed suede jacket! Ohhh.
Thre is never a good enough excuse to wear a fringed suede jacket. Unless you are Peter Fonda. Jez
6. Dont mention the bloomin world cup .........again!!! I swear, if I hear about 66 again........And it`s not even started yet!!!!!!! Someone like Flea was always gonna win. How many of your avarage fans of music have heard of Pino or Jaco? Jez
7. It`s gotta be rosewood but what`s with the white pickup covers? Is this your Clash moment? Jez
8. The P from Far East is quite a lot of dough for a 10years + old bass. It just goes to show how much the prices have gone up. 4 years ago I bougt a CIJ 57 re-issue P with all the chrome on it for £525, brand new from the guitar emporium. Having said that, I have only heard good things about the basses that the guy sells. I know what you mean about the pre 76 ish precision logo. The logo on that re issue is well tasty! But I still think that it`s too expensive. Jez
9. That Jazz is the business!! I love the way that the head goes that dark colour. And get off the guy`s back regarding the shed. That`s a man`s shed that is. None of your poncey Ronseal there!! Jez
10.
Yeah I missed out on one by one evening Just have to wait for one to turn up now.
Ah don`t worry about that. I`m bound to change my mind and want to punt mine again shortly. Or with all of Clarky`s MIA P bass love, he`s bound to buy one and then you just hang about for a few weeks then it`ll be up for sale to pay for another GAS purchase!! Jez
11. I have seen the new US p go for around £600-650 on here and at that price, it`s a nae brainer!! Jez
12. If you can get a hold of The Concert For George (Harrison), Dave plays on most of it and yes, he`s a fantastic player. Jez
13. I`ve got a 08 sunburst US P and after sticking on a set of Marcus Miller fatbeams as recomended by OTPJ it`s now my number one go to bass. The build quality is spot on and it is so light and easy to throw around. And the sound aint too bad either!! I let it go once and almost let it go again but it`s staying put. Jez
14. Clarky, that guitarist of yours sounds like a bit of a control freak but if it works for you, more power to ya! Cant see the rest of the band throwing me out as I own most of the pa! Regarding keeping a diary, I`m pretty lucky as we are booked up through till December and as I mentioned in my op, due to the singer`s domestic situation, there won`t be any more additions. We knocked back £700 to play last new year as the singers wife would have cracked up. We usually get £250 max between the 4 of us so that was a bit of a pisser. TimR, your suggestion seems to be pretty cool. I`ll speak to the guitarist and see where the land lies as they say. The drummer will be up for it as he just does what he`s told!! Thanks for all the suggestions so far, it`s what makes basschat a cool place to visit! Jez
15. I play in a covers band and am very happy with it. The only problem is we only play twice a month at the most. We can`t do any more due to our singer getting a hard time from his wife and we have knocked back umpteen gigs recently due to this. I would like to gig every weekend if possible, so, I have thought about joining another band to fill up my time. The only problem I can see is that there are obiously a couple of saturday`s a month that I am commited too. Now, I know that some of youz guys and gals are in 2 or sometimes more, band, so how do you approach this? Understanding bandmates? Any pointers will be gladly taken in. Cheers, Jez
16. BB That`s a shameless thing, using your daughter and her pal for a bump, It`s a lovely looking bass and BB is a great guy to deal with. I see that the T bass is up for sale. You are just as bad as me!! Jez
17.
I would love to casually mention to someone playing that monstrosity, I think your tuning is a little out ... and retire swiftly out of arm's reach
You wouldn`t need to worry about being out of arm`s reach Clarky. Anyone who played it for 10 mins would be so knackered just having the thing slung over their shoulder that they wouldn`t have the energy to lift an arm to thump you! That has to be the most bizzare guitar I have seen. You would need a mortgage to buy a set of strings. Jez
18. Books. Ac/dc chord book Ronnie Wood Chubby Brown Lots of grateful dead stuff Jimmy Nail Monty python Flying burioto brothers Paul Diano Don Felder of the Eagles William Shatner And some others... Dvd Alfred Hitchcock 6 DVD box Kissology part 2 And an AGV hot rod m/cycle helmet. Rather garish paint job, size 58-medium/large, good condition, never dropped. Has a removable liner and has sat in its bag for 2.5 years. It has a tinted anti fog visor fitted. Cost 130 quid 3 years ago so it`s not that bad a lid. If you are intrested in any of the above, give me a pm. jEZ
19. Guys, thanks for all the super helpful tips and links. What`s the betting I spend time gettin it right and turn up at the studio and one of the plonkers, sorry bandmates, says they don`t fancy it! Jez
20. Our band want to have a go at uprising by Muse, even though we don`t have a keyboard player. Hmmmm.... I`ve got the chords but how does the guy play the bassline? I looked at a couple of live clips and he doesn`t seem to be playing the notes an octave apart (if that`s the right term for playing the D on the A string then the D on the G string) if you get my drift. Or is he just doing it really quick? How do some of you do it? Would the sub harmonic setting on my Ashdown do the job? Also I`ve got a EH Bigg Muff would that do for the sound? Any advice/dogs abuse will be appreciated! Jez
21. Got to agree with OTPJ Clarky. I bought a set of fat beams, 45-105 after Rich was raving about them. Stuck them on my US P bass and it transformed the sound. It even sounds great through my sh*t*y Marshall practice amp. I was going to punt the P but it is such a cracking looking bass that I decided to try the strings and it was well worth the £30 they set me back. Now I wouldn`t consider using anything else! Jez
22. Lovely bass Clarky. Nothing looks better than Pete Way on stage thrashing his T bird to within an inch of it`s life! Jez
23. Gawd, those German burds don`t age well!! Jez
24.
I saw Nena, talk about a bloody mime act! The band didn't even bother to make it look like they were playing! Shame there was no Tony Butler with an Aria! Or even a Warwick Thumb!
Do you know what I remember about Nena and her bloomin 99 balloons....She was on some other programe and she had some kind of shirt on and she had hairy, and I mean seriously hairy, armpits!!! Jez Ps Tried to find a photo of said armpits but couldn`t. Just for old times sake.
25. I`m watching this even though most of the music made in the 80`s is the spawn of the devil, to check out the bass guitars. So far I`ve seen Nick Begs of Kajagoogoo`s Wal and now it`s Pino with his Stingray fretless. What`s next? Some right dodgy barnets going on there!! Jez
