I`m gonna stick this on Gumtree as I`m not wanting to post this as I have no case or box for it, but thought I would stick it on here to see if anyone local wants it. It`s a Ibanez ATK300 in natural, bought early this year by me for £407. It`s in as new condition, not a mark on it except for 2 holes for a ebony thumb rest which I have taken off but will give you with the bass. It has a set of Stadium Elites 45-105 strings in good nick fitted and you can have the original Elixar (I think) strings which were taken off almost right away. The neck has a P bass profile It`s a nice sounding bass with a 3 position switch for 2 single coil and 1 humbucker settings and a 3 band eq. A very versatile bass, some people say it can sound like a MM but I think that the only thing that sounds like a MM is a MM. Still a good versitile bass and a great buy as they now retail about £455. The Scaller straplocks will be replaced by the original Ibby items. Any questions give me a shout. Jez

I must be the only newbie here that is also learing to play??? Anvil I think that you`ll find that most of us on here are still learning how to play the bloomin bass, with varying levels of success! Keep it up cause it`s the best gig in the band. And you will meet the nicest people!! Jez
I'll bet it was the singer, too busy yapping to chicks or folk from other bands to help with loading and unloading. We had a singer that used to chuck his mic in the back of the van (if he hadn't forgotten it) and say "right lads that's my gear in" and he'd disappear to off to mingle.
That`s uncanny! Our singer does exactly the same thing only he calls it "networking". What it really is, is chatting up the birds. Ugly ones at that. Jez

I think that I was being a bit picky wanting a black Jazz, so I have decided to see what `s out there. It is one of the new style standards with the fancy case and was bought from guitarguitar in Glasgow. It is fitted with a set of DR Marcus Miller Fatbeams and has been gigged 3 or 4 times since having the strings fitted. The case has a few surface scratches. It has an aftermarket scratchplate fitted cos I thought black looks cooler! It has a few blemishes which I have tried to photo. One ding on the lower front under the tone control below the pickgaurd screw, one very small ding on the top/front where your arm comes across which I can`t even photograph, a couple of dings on the bottom of the body and a couple of very light dings on the back. The neck/frets are in great condition. Trade wise I`m looking for a Geddy Lee, G&L, Warwick, Ibanez, anything four string except another P bass of course. Would do a swap plus cash my deal. Cash wise it`s worth around the £600 mark I reckon. I will post it via insured carrier or we can meet up. Any questions, ask away. Cheers, Jez Photo of ding
well its exaclty a mix of the aerodyne and the jag, its just as much one as it is the other,,,,,,,,,,,except the jag and aerodyne dont have that nasty [s]rash[/s] squire decal on the headstock
Steve man, calm your knickers! The name on the end of the bass matters not a jot. I have a 08 Us P and a VMJ which I have upgraded with a new bridge and a better set of tuners but the bass feels and sounds great even with the stock pickups and it`s the VMJ that I`ll be gigging on friday. Nothing against the P but the neck on the VMJ is a diva, perfect for my small hands. The new Squires are really as good as people say! And as for Jags, I have said this before, I had one and was well disapointed with it and ended up moving it on. The worst active circut I have ever used on a bass. And do you know what, I haven`t regretted getting rid of it for a second. Jez

The new models seem to go for 620 to 670 ish, so I reckon about 520 to 560. It`s a really nice colour , sort of sonic blue. Tell you what Wayne, you buy it and I`ll swap you it for a us P in sunburst, your favourite finish! Jez

The width at the nut is 41mm, I think. Tino, what is there to improve? If it`s one of the newer models, stick on a set of DR Fatbeam strings and play the thing till your fingers bleed. Jez
I think you may be right... and that's why I'm getting a bit of a pervy buzz off it At last, an excuse to wear a fringed suede jacket! Ohhh.
Thre is never a good enough excuse to wear a fringed suede jacket. Unless you are Peter Fonda. Jez

It`s gotta be rosewood but what`s with the white pickup covers? Is this your Clash moment? Jez

Opinions on Fender Jap 70RI Precision or MIA Standard Precision

The P from Far East is quite a lot of dough for a 10years + old bass. It just goes to show how much the prices have gone up. 4 years ago I bougt a CIJ 57 re-issue P with all the chrome on it for £525, brand new from the guitar emporium. Having said that, I have only heard good things about the basses that the guy sells. I know what you mean about the pre 76 ish precision logo. The logo on that re issue is well tasty! But I still think that it`s too expensive. Jez -
That Jazz is the business!! I love the way that the head goes that dark colour. And get off the guy`s back regarding the shed. That`s a man`s shed that is. None of your poncey Ronseal there!! Jez
Yeah I missed out on one by one evening Just have to wait for one to turn up now.
Ah don`t worry about that. I`m bound to change my mind and want to punt mine again shortly. Or with all of Clarky`s MIA P bass love, he`s bound to buy one and then you just hang about for a few weeks then it`ll be up for sale to pay for another GAS purchase!! Jez -

If you can get a hold of The Concert For George (Harrison), Dave plays on most of it and yes, he`s a fantastic player. Jez

I`ve got a 08 sunburst US P and after sticking on a set of Marcus Miller fatbeams as recomended by OTPJ it`s now my number one go to bass. The build quality is spot on and it is so light and easy to throw around. And the sound aint too bad either!! I let it go once and almost let it go again but it`s staying put. Jez -
Clarky, that guitarist of yours sounds like a bit of a control freak but if it works for you, more power to ya! Cant see the rest of the band throwing me out as I own most of the pa! Regarding keeping a diary, I`m pretty lucky as we are booked up through till December and as I mentioned in my op, due to the singer`s domestic situation, there won`t be any more additions. We knocked back £700 to play last new year as the singers wife would have cracked up. We usually get £250 max between the 4 of us so that was a bit of a pisser. TimR, your suggestion seems to be pretty cool. I`ll speak to the guitarist and see where the land lies as they say. The drummer will be up for it as he just does what he`s told!! Thanks for all the suggestions so far, it`s what makes basschat a cool place to visit! Jez

I play in a covers band and am very happy with it. The only problem is we only play twice a month at the most. We can`t do any more due to our singer getting a hard time from his wife and we have knocked back umpteen gigs recently due to this. I would like to gig every weekend if possible, so, I have thought about joining another band to fill up my time. The only problem I can see is that there are obiously a couple of saturday`s a month that I am commited too. Now, I know that some of youz guys and gals are in 2 or sometimes more, band, so how do you approach this? Understanding bandmates? Any pointers will be gladly taken in. Cheers, Jez
