2. Hows about a euphonium...... Or mabye not... Jez
3. I use a black Highway 1 as my main bass and I love it. I like the finish and the fact that it will wear quicker was a big factor in buying it. It`s got a baddass that would cost about £60 to buy itself, like the look of the logo and I like the greasebucket tone. It also came in a nice gigbag. More importantly, it kicks a*s in a live situation. At the end of the day you buy the bass that suits you be it usa or mim and as we all know, there are good and bad examples of both. Jez
4.
I don't need it, but I want it. Help.
Isn`t it always the way! Yeah, thats a lovely bass and a cracking price. Yamaha make good gear. Jez
5. Aaaaaggggghhhh!! Gas has struck again!! The shape!!! Neck through!!! Active!!!The pictures!!! Too cool looking!!! Just ordered a black T bird from Thomann. How is the service from them? I tried to order one from GAK as they said that they would match any European price but even though their website said that the black one was in stock, guess what? They sold them today and don`t know when they will be back in. Mmmm. I`ve never dealt with GAK before but does this sound familiar? Anyway, got it for £300 delivered. This will be my 3rd Tbird and I got rid of the other 2 because I couldn`t get used to the playing position but this time I`m gonna move the strap button and buy a long strap and play it down at my knees Pete Way style. Jez
6.
After hearing so much good about these basses I tried one. It was great.Really, really great. Can only imagine how much better they are with the upgrades. Better than the Mexicans I have tried and better than some American Jazzes I have tried. I tried the new Korean Spectors the other day and preferred them over the Euro's so some things are being done well in these factories. My next test will be to see if they out perform the G & L Tribute range. Any body tested them against each other? And do any of you gig the vmj's? T
Yeah, I gigged the VMJ last week. I usually use P basses but tried it out in the first half. Only thing the guitarist said was it wasn`t black to match his Les Paul! It sounded ok but I think when I have the cash I will get a set of wizzards. But it is gigable with stock pickups. Jez
7.
What naughty boys you are.... adding Fender Decals to your Squiers!
Nah no me guv! I can honestly tell you that I didn`t sand off the Squire log on the front and the serial number and made in Indonesia on the back. Nor did I swap the Squire neck plate for a plain one. Yours truly, Pinochio Ps anyone looking to buy a cheap 75 reissue? Jez
8. If you are wanting something just for the house, you cant go wrong with one of these Ashdown Tour amps. It got a good write up in guitar and bass magazine and costs around £50. If you are looking for something that you can gig with as well, use the search forum in the amp section as there is a lot of info there. A word of advice though. Anytime you mention Ashdown on this forum, bad people come and write nasty things about them. Jez
9. Howl, you lookin at ma burd? Hope this gives you some ideas JM. Wayne, is that a punk rock control plate you`ve got there or are you waiting for one to arrive? Jez
10. Yep custom shop. If you look at the rear of the headstock, they have the custom shop symbol. I think that`s what it is anyway. Really nice basses. Jez
11. Here`s a couple of photos of mine. It`s got a Gotoh bridge (£25), a set of Highway 1 tuners (£25), Jazz knobs (£9), a set of Status flatwound strings (£18), Schaller straplocks (£12) and a Fender Jazz sticker (£7). Next on the list are a set of pickups. Jez
12.
I have a VM Jazz and it is a fantastic bass, the neck is better than the one on my Fender.
Gotta agree with Wayne. I`ve got a vm jazz and it`s a great bass if you are prepared to spend some cash on upgrades. The quality of build on my one is certinaly Made in Mexico standard. The neck is a diva but be careful as some other people on the site have seen some examples which are not as good as mine but that`s normal in the Fender family. Try and get one that you have actully played rather than buy online. You will pay a bit more but at least you will get a good one. Or buy on line and if you dont like it, return it. The Jazz gives you a slightly better range of tones as well. By the way Wayne, have you fitted Wizzards to yours? If you have I take it that there is a vast improvement? Details!!! Jez
13.
noo, ive had a cheapy beginners bass for about a year now i guess to see how i got on with it, so i decided i wanted a proper nice one. and im from south devon. this is how it looks now ive got it!
You been down in Devon per chance Wayne? Looks like one of your guitar straps. Jez
14. Yeah you can but I dont know how it would sound. I always carry a Sansamp with me as a back up in case my amp throws a wobbler. Recently I was gonna use the sansamp and a powered monitor and go through the pa and stop using my bass amp but decided against it in the end. Jez
15. Don`t know about the body thickness but I`ve got a H1 P and it`s quite a heavy bugger. It sounds great and I like the finish, it`s starting to wear nicley! The Squire is a cool looking bass and around £300 it`s well priced. I really like the finish on the headstock. For half the price of a H1 it`s worth a punt. Jez
16. Naw. Better off with either the passive US jazz or the Geddy. Jez
17. I`m sorry but why all the "jaguar love"? You are much better off with a decent Jap jazz. The jags are heavy, have a crap active circut (on or off, no nice transition) and some of them are poorly shielded and buzz like heck. I loved mine for around 2 gigs and then it was Joe La Toff and no way would I get another one. Get a Geddy Lee. They look better, play better and you have great build quality. Just look how fast s/h Geddy`s go. Ducks for the backlash. Jez A proper Japanese guitar. (Even though it`s the original US one, but you get the jist!)
18.
I'm considering a punt on the FretLord fibre optics for my new Lace Helix, which has tiny side-dots & no front markers. Looks like they'll come in at about £35 for the set plus a second LED module (for a different colour) - including delivery & import tax. Not too much cash wasted if they turn out to be guff. Jon.
Jon I`ve ordered a blue set from the above guys for £29.16, plus the inport tax of course. Thought the other ones were too expensive, around £90 to take a chance on something that might just be a fad. Going to stick them on my P bass. As soon as I get them on, I`ll post piccys. Jez
19.
Not sure that quote has any truth behind it at all. I certainly have never ever seen anything of the sorts quoted anywhere and from the people I know who have worked with him, they say he is one of the most in time reliable bass players around. Yes he plays a lot of eights but I bet you can't play ever single one of those notes dead on time, every time. That something Adam is spot on for doing without any drop in or retakes which is why he is considered a very tight solid bass player. Now, if that quote is about Bono then that makes sense. I have seen quotes like that relating to Bono and even Bono admits he can't play guitar.
Linus This will sound a bit anal retentive but what the heck! The book u2 by u2, page 102, to quote Bono "He could play really complicated things easily and then be unable to clap in time, and you`d just be left scratching your head" The other quote about being "able to play out of time in time" is also from the same book but I can`t find it. I`m not that anally retentive! I actually like the band and I think his bass playing fits the songs perfectly, as it should considering they write the stuff. Jez
20. Adrians a nice bloke and good to deal with, no messing about. If you meet him get him to show you his 70`s jazz. Mojo in bucketloads! Thank god I`m skint. Jez
21. So it seems like his Laklands are no longer in use? I`ll take em off his hands! That Warwick is bloomin ugly. I like this quote from one of the band "Adam can play out of time, in time for ages" Jez
22. I love P basses and I think that the MIM sunburst is a terrible colour. Now if it looked like the American Standard............no bugger would by the usa one! Jez
23. Oh Great Lord of Punk. Your Highness. Played the VMJ last night at a gig with the standard pup`s and even in my crap opinion, I`m gonna need different pickups. Are the Wizzards worth it? Have you upgraded the pots and wiring? Jez
24. A bump for Fat Freddy of The Freak Brothers lovely looking Gibson. There are lots of nice gear about just now. Just a pity I have non cash! Jez
25. Never seen anyone get a decent sound out of a tin of ravioli before. Jez
