My best bass and most valuable in £`s gets gigged and as it`s a Roadworn 60th aniv Jazz it doesn`t matter if it gets dinged. I keep my eye on it at gigs as it so easy for someone to lift it when your back is turned say during a break. On a similar line, I was talking to a guy in my local the other week who was playing a 6 grand Les Paul custom shop 59 re issue. After doing a soundcheck the 3 guys in the band disappeared out the back for a smoke leaving the Les Paul and a nice Ric just sitting near a door. Not something I would do especially where I come from

If you need a lightweight bass there seems to be some nice options out there these days. If I had the need and money I would speak to Shuker and get him to make something nice and light. I have crap eyesight due to various things and wear glasses when gigging. It`s a bit of a rubbish look in a rock band but as I can`t wear contact lenses, glasses it is. In fact the one time I played without glasses, I couldn`t see the set list and a few comments were made that I was getting vain in my old age In other words, do what can to make the gig easy. It`s a fake from a factory in China selling on E bay. It`s says so down in the description. It doesn`t actually say it`s a fake but I do know a real one costs a few bob.

We only gig about once a month. I do sod all exercise really but am trying to do more walking as I now deal with all the pa gear and am starting to feel it in my bones. Being a truck driver sitting down for long periods isn`t helping either. My main problem when gigging is the first 2 fingers on my right hand. As we play pretty hard and fast (too fast sometimes thanks to drummer boy) my fingers end up chewed after the first set (we usually play for 2.5 hours). I`m trying to get used to playing with a pick but find it hard to get the speed and keep it consistent.

Cool, I had an idea it was a daft thought. Lesson here is don`t post nonsense after being down the pub for a few hours!

File this under stupid question due to being bored. I have a Rumble 500 combo that has a 8 ohms output to another cab to give full power. As I seem to have an abundance of 10 inch pa cabs hanging about, could I connect a active top to the output, will it blow the combo or active speaker? I have to say that I haven`t tried this and dont not recommend trying this until someone with sense comments on this

To be fair to them, if I order say a bass on a Sunday it`s usually out for delivery on the Thursday. The DHL balls up the final bit of the delivery!

The Sire P5 was £400 new so the top end of your budget although they may have gone up in price. But they are worth the money. I bought one recently in Dakota Red and it was perfectly set up out the box and I havent had to touch it since. Much better than a Squier, Harley Benton and as good as a Fender Player for half the price.

Well Saturday night being the first time I tried using the EV 12" sub didn`t go the way I thought it would. Due to the pub being in the centre of town unloading was a real pain and I had to move the car round into the multi storey so time was a bit tight for an 8pm start. I used the venues DBR 12`s along with my sub but as soon as everything was powered up, there was a loud rumble type feedback from the sub. My mic was in line about a foot away from the sub/top so it may have been coming from that but even when I turned down the sub volume the noise was still there. As I was in a rush I just turned the sub off and went full range with the speakers. The DBR`s didn`t get any feedback from my mic. I am thinking that possibly I didn`t have the sub connected right as it was very low down and beside the wall. It worked ok at low volumes in my home but I should have taken it down to the studio and spent some time on setting it up correctly so a lesson learned.

Get you about the trainers @LozzI96 For years I have worn Adidas Sambas but after being on my feet for 2 hours plus at Bonfest, I have invested in a pair of Nike Air as my feet were killing me. This getting old lark is not what it`s cracked up to be!

Thanks Phil. Yes I can set the subs crossover to match the DBRs. I will set them to 120.

Well after posting about changing my pa set up, here is where I`m at. I own a set of Yam DBR 12`s which I think we have used twice. I recently bought a set of DBR 10`s and a s/hand EV ELX 200 12" sub. I have only used this set up in the flat at low volume but on Saturday we are playing in MacSorley`s in Glasgow centre a pub well know for bands so I will see what happens. The DBR has a 100 HZ and a 120 HZ setting on the back, what would be the best setting? The good thing about the sub is it has an app to adjust, saves me bending down too far!

You can buy a decent speaker cable for £15 or so, I wouldn`t be faffing about with a mains cable. Better off with the right thing?

Good point and that is why I own the pa and own and run the Facebook page. But that drummer is a tube, he deserves to be named and shamed. Agree with trying to ask the singer if she is happy doing extended blues tune, I can`t think of anything worse to be honest. Hope you get it sorted.

A few months back I bought a 60th aniv Mexican road worn Jazz form Bass Bros. Usually I buy a Jazz, keep it for a few weeks, sell on losing a few bob and repeat this at regular intervals. But this bass has got under my skin and I don`t know why. The "wear" on the top edge of the body looks like it was done with a sander and I`m not very keen on the concentric vol and tone set up but there is just something about it I love. Must be getting mellow in my old age.

I usually enjoy the gigs but it`s all the associated guff that surrounds many bands that folk decide that it isn`t worth the payback of gigging. If it wasn`t for the fact that 2 out of the 4 I play alongside I really care for, I could happily knock it on the head.

That`s high praise indeed Dave having had a play through your man cave amp and cab setup which was rather loud I take it the only way in the Beat Gen is up those bloomin stairs? Good job the new cab is an easy lift. Have fun!
