1. Is it a fake? I`m more concerned with the lack of punctuation in the description. Doesn`t anyone use a blooming full stop or a paragraph these days? Has it gone out of fashion? I know it`s petty, but I can`t afford the bass anyway. Jez
2. Nice looking basses but at the end of the day they are (feel free to correct me if I`m wrong) a Cort bass, set up in Chicago and are therefore grossly overpriced. A G&L L 2000 built by the same company retails around £650 and is a fantastic piece of kit. It doesn`t add up to me. Jez
3. How the heck did I miss this? I went out and paid £407 for one of these 2 weeks ago! And you only live up the road!! Have a bump for a great sounding bass Hagguy. They are really versitile and have a good selection of sounds. The build quality is really good and mine is really light as well which surprised me. Jez
4. That logo was used between about 67-68 until 76 according to The Fender Bass-an illustrated history. And have you ever seen a set of tuners so clean on an old bass. Having said that, they could be genuine. And that strap button on the back-Ibanez. Am I the only person who thinks that there appears to be a lot of 60`s/70`s Fender basses appearing? Jez
5. £100 for a baddass? He`s havin a larfff! At the end of the day, it`s a £480 bass brand new, so I reckon if he gets his 480 back, it`s a very good result. He should realise you don`t get your money back for upgrading. Jez
6.
Anyone see the TV documentary on Lemmy a few years back? It was on BBC2 I think, following him around on tour. Very interesting. In his spare time he reads Jeeves & Wooster novels, believe it or not!
I think that the documentry you mean is Motorhead, live fast die old. It was on ch 4 and I recorded it onto vhs and then later onto dvd. It`s a class act. In fact, I`m gonna watch it the noo. And yes, I think that he did nail the chick!! Jez
7. He`s no kidding about the laminate crack in the neck. But what bit of the neck is laminated? Does he mean laquer? What is he on about? It looks like it has cracked across and caused the head to bend due to the tension. He`s good at putting the strings on as well, nice and even. Go on, someone e mail him about the bend and report back asap. Anyway, a right steal at the price. I`ll be watching this one, guffaww, guffaww. Jez
8. Great stuff, can`t wait to see it! The most honest guy in rock. Jez
9. I have a Squire VMJ and have not had any problems with it whatsoever. It has cloth wiring and the DD pickups are fine. Regarding under the scratchplate, both the 08 US P basses I have owned have routes under the pickgaurd, the same with any Mexican Jazz I have owned. I still think that for under £300 the bass is a bargain. Jez
10. Wouldn`t say that I know what I`m talking about but, what the heck! Changing the bridge should give you more sustain. Get a Gotoh or a baddass. The Gotoh`s are usually £30 ish whilst a new baddass is around £70ish. I have used the Gotoh cause I am a cheap ba*tard! If nothing else, they look better. Try WD Music or Bass guitar parts direct. You can get a Maple Mighty Mite neck off of E bay for around £80 posted. I don`t know what they are like, but they seem to be licenced by Fender. As for the hum, I think that you may have an earthing problem or mabye you need to shield the cavity as you have suggested. Go for the cheap option first!! Once you get the SR300 it will be, "what P bass?". Jez
11.
I was looking at one of these the other day in a gorgeous chrome orange/cayenne colour. Amazing value for a mere £239. Go for it, I'd say
Is this the colour you were talking about otpj? I had a look at it in guitarguitar on monday and it looks even better in the flesh. Jez
12. Markus Good bass the sr300. Had a red sparkle / maple neck one and it was well worth it. The build quality is really good and the bass punches well above it`s price. I`ve never seen a bad modern ibby. The only thing is, if you play finger style, the shape of the pickups mean that you may find it difficult to anchor your thumb on it. I ended up sticking a heavy plectrum in the gap between the pickup and the body rout. Nice range of colours too. And while your buying the bass, any chance of buying a full stop!! Jez
13. Les Sold my P bass yesterday and went down and spent the cash on an ATK300. Great bass, can do a passable imitation of a stingray and a P bass. Lots of sounds available. I`ve had a SR500 in the past and this thing is much better. Wouldn`t say that it`s the best looking bass in the world, looks huge but the body is roughly the same size as a jazz and is nice and light due to the ash body. The neck on it is well chunky though but it`s worth it! Cant wait to crank it up!!! Jez
14. Just sold my P bass to Johnnyfrog. Nice guy, no messing about, a thoroughly decent fellow. Jez
15. Regarding Haircut 100. My on/off wife was into them big time and even sent Les the bass player and Nick a pair of underpants each. And she was always dissapointed she never got a reply. Strange woman. I always slagged her as I was a total heavy rock dude at the time. Fast forward a few years and I love fantastic day and love plus one. I am indeed a sad old man. Jez
16. I`ve got a black P bass for sale/swap on gumtree the noo and I thought I would stick it on here and see if anything intresting turns up. It`s a Z8 serial number which I thinks makes it an 08 model, originally bought last year. It has tuners from a 57 Jap re-issue with the long keys and has a black scratchplate fitted. It has the nitro finish and is starting to wear nicley. There are some scratches on the back, not through to the wood, a couple of small dings on the front and a small mark on the headstock. It has been gigged and is a great bass, I just fancy something different. I`m looking for an Ibanez (especially an ATK) or a yamaha, 4 strings only, or WHY got? The cash value would be around £380 so I would be looking for something around that value. I would like to trade with someone within a reasonable distance of Paisley (next to Glesga!). Any questions, gives a shout. Cheers, Jez Sold to Johnny Frog!!!
17.
Go round booing me I'll boo you back. BOOOO!!!!! How do you like it huh?
I see the children have been eating the blue smarties again Jez
18. My VMJ has a Gotoh OEM black chrome bridge fitted and I think it looks better than a baddass. I have a ba on my P bass and I had one on a classic Jazz I owned and I never noticed a bit of differance! But mabye that`s down to my playing prowess lol. I prefer the look of the Gotoh as well. And a new baddass is about £75. Here`s a link: http://www.wdmusic.co.uk/category/Hardware...s,b.html?page=1 Jez
19. It`s a bit of a strange one. The 70`s Jazz bass has a bullet truss rod at the head and I can`t see one. The neck binding looks like a 70 reissue neck but the tuners are the vintage/Jap type with the long keys. And the reissue has a blank neck plate as the serial number is on the back of the head. Bit of a strange one. As was mentioned earlier, if you don`t know anything about guitars, why spend 300 quid on one? Also would you buy a Jazz from someone who states "Ive checked fender jass bass guitars on e bay". Jez
20. Check this out. Starting price of £1000? http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/HYBRID-PRECISION-BAS...=item3ca9d1d499 How much is a Hondo body worth? (Paging Captain J). Baddass=£70, Fender pup=£50, pickgaurd and thumb rest=£40, Status neck=£250, belonged to a guy from the Hollies=35p. I wonder what music shops told him to insure it for a grand? Jez
21. Aye Krispin, I know what you mean. They are great basses but I could not get used to the way it sits. Too much time playing Fenders! Good price with a hard case. Have a bump! Jez
22. Aha! So it a good thing then. That`s me chuffed! Jez
23. What exactly is a zero fret for? I have one on my Status but why........... Jez
24. What`s the deal with "they aren`t as good as Keith and John." Pino is one of the best bass players sround and Zak is a fantastic drummer. Moon was a vastly overated drummer. He is one of those guys who got better after he died. The performance was a bit dodgy but hey, it`s rock n roll!! Jez
