1.
It's also because Gibson took over from the UK distributor the other year, so you can only get Epiphone & Gibson gear at a few authorised dealers in the UK these days. They're not selling through the smaller shops anymore.
Your spot on there. Merchant City Music in Glasgow used to sell Gibson/Epiphones and now the only place you can buy them in Glasgow as far as I know is Guitar guitar. Kind of narrows down your choice and haggalin options. Jez
2. The thing that gets me about Laklands is the price. You can buy a US P cheaper than an equivilent Lakland. The latest P basses are fantastic and as said, the build quality is better and the case is the best on the market. You get a gig bag with a Lakland. The Lakland`s are good basses but how can they justify the cost of a bass made by Cort in Indonesia or wherever compared to the cost of producing in the Us. And yeah, I know they send them to Chicago to be finished. Jez
3.
I'll have you know that's an original copy, stand on me!
Classic man!!!
4. Just traded my Jazz with the dub man for his beautiful stingray. Cracking guy to deal with, no messing about and if he puts any of his G&L`s up for sale buy it without hesitation! As for me that`s it I`m skint! Cheers Keir. Jez
5. I`ve got almost the same problem but for different reasons. This year I have bought: Fender us p bass, g&l l2000 tribby, Ibanez sr300, srx700, sr7oo, ARTB100, Fender Classic Jazz, Epi Ebo, thunderbird and am planning to get something different again. The problem seems to be that I lust after something, convince myself that I will like the neck better or something like that and then 2 weeks later I am fed up with it. It is never anything to do with the play-ability of the bass as that can usually be sorted. And I`m crap at selling things on and drop the price low just to get shot of the things. I need help as my credit card bill is gettin bloomin scary. Does this happen to anyone else or am I just not right? Jez
6. Bloomin beautiful!!! Pm sent. Jez
7. Here`s what a (hopefully!) genuine cij serial number looks like. Jez
8.
Didn't Chas play bass at one time too - in Heads Hands and Feet with Albert Lee?
Yep, he`s on one of the Whistle Test dvd`s doing "warming up the band" playing a P bass. He was also one of the first electric bass players to become well know in the 60`s, playing in the Outlaws along with Ritchie Blackmore where he played a Framus something. Jez
9.
You're not my next door neighbour are you?
Doubt it. With the gear youve got I think I would have heard you by noo. Jez
10. Location now added!! I`m in Paisley, just outside Glasgow, near Houston (okay BB?). I will try and find out the weight. Jez
11. Fender Classic 60`s Jazz for sale. Made in Mexico this is the lightest Jazz I have owned. It is in as new condition apart from a small piece of paint that is missing from the rout for the bridge pickup. It is on the edge and is barley visable and I didn`t notice when I bought it but had better mention it. It has a badass fitted and I will include the original vintage style one. It has a new set of stadium elites fitted. The neck on it is lovely with a sort of vintage tint. It is a great sounding bass and the only reason for moving it on is that I am playing Ibanez`s (cheers Barry!) and this one aint getting used any more. Up for sale for £350. Please note this is collection only or I will travel up to 100 miles to meet someone. Cheers! Forgot to say I am in Paisley just outside of Glasgow. Jez
12. Aye MrJim, you made a good job of it. Did it perform ok on sat? Spoke to my mate who changed the pickup and he suggests that you check the wiring at some point as his soldering aint the best! Jez
13. Can anyone recomend a decent set of speakers stands for our peavey`s as they are looking dodgy on top of our £35 stands from Maplins and where is the best place to get em. Cheers, Jez
14. I think his name is Jammy Bas**rd, or something similar.
15. Merchant city in Glasgow have one and by god it`s well sparkly!! I think that it`s not that bad a price when you consider that a lot of the Jap P`s are as good if not better build quality than their Us counterparts. And you get the SD and Badass. Jez
16. Bump for the G&L. Why hasn`t someone bought this yet? These are fantastic basses, I`ve had 2 four stringers and they do the lot and are built like a brick sh**house. Why did I sell mine, cause I`m a numpty!! Jez
17. BB I wish you had told me the other night that you were gonna put it back up Bob. I bought a Ibanez sr700 last night from guitarguitar and I would have taken this beauty off yer hands! Are you using the Squire to replace this one? Aye, you know quality when you see it. Heh, heh. BUMMER! Jez
18. Right ladies and gents. What we have here is another one of my fads. A wee story as well. Whilst perusing a upmarket hi fi shop in Glasgow, I got talking to the guy about Linn Sondeck turntables, As I used to be into hi fi years ago I was asking him how much they go for now. As they are the Ferrari of the turntable world I knew it would be a few bob. He mentioned 14 and 16. I realised that he was talking about 14 thousand!!!!! The guy has speakers at £35,000 for flucks sake!! So I ended up buying a ex demo turntable off him, a Pro Ject Debut 3, for a bit less that the above and went and spent £40 on secondhand vinyl. Set it up at home thinking, groovy, just like the old days, so I got out my tin and skined up....Naw only kidding. I lost intrest in 2 days and now need shot of it. It is almost new condition, has an ortrafon cartridge and plays 45`s and Lp`s. If you come round you can hear it playing Dark side and it`s true, it does sound better on vinyl. The same turntable will cost £190 in Richer Sounds so a bargin is too be had. Pm me if intrested. Jez
19.
We can't play them. We had a go at Sex on Fire and it was a disaster. Then it got worse every time we played it. When you can't even get the introduction right you know you're in big trouble.
Blob dude. We had the same problem as our drummer can`t keep time to save his life. Get the drums to start first and then when he has got himself sorted bring in the bass and guitar. Viola!! It goes doon a treat. Better still, Use somebody, the drumming doesn`t go in time with anything else so nobody noticws you are all over the place. Of course, the drummer might not be the problem. Jez
20. I would be wary. Jap Fenders are great but dont get like me and think that everything that`s made in Japan is gonna be good. About 2 years ago I paid £117 for a Joodee P type bass and was well chuffed until I got it and it sounded like sh*t! Put it into the local luthier and he had never heard of the make and couldn`t get it to sound any better unless I spent a few bob on it. And it had the cheek to say "for profesional use" on the headstock. Wibble wibble Jez
21. Do the gig Pete. We play in local boozers and on one sunday evening there was 4 bar staff, 4 in the band and 3 punters! It is what we call a tumbleweed gig as at the end of each song that`s what blows across in front of you. Put on a good show for the people that turn up. By the way, were you in bass mag a few months ago? Jez
22.
Jez the Gent does it again! Cracking Mike Dirnt P for a bargain price. All the best, mate BB
Thanks BB. Sod selling anything so cheap again, still gettin phone calls and a few e mails about it! Jez
23. Totally the right thing to do. I have left bands/getting bands together sitiuations due to similar experiances. This aint my living, it`s a hobby I do cause I enjoy doing it. When it becomes too much grief, I walk away. It has taken a while but the guys I play with now all get along great and although we aint the best bunch of musicians, we enjoy it and people seem to like us. (No accounting for taste!!). Jez
