1. I used a MAG300 1X15 combo for about 3 years playing quite largish pubs and it was always loud enough. Does your band play at loud volumes? If you are standing right in front of your rig, try going out into the pub a bit as it is always louder out front than close up. If you plug in a 15inch 8 ohms extension speaker, this should give you the full 300w and the 15 should add some bottom end to your sound. And what do you mean you can`t afford a "proper rig"? You`ve got one Don`t worry about the Ashdown haters on here, they are only jealous Jez
2. Why isn`t there a "bit of a talentless chancer who has mananged to bluff his way through it and has got away with it" option? That would fit me down to the ground! Jez
3. Last year whilst rehersing regularly at Berkley in Glasgow, Steve the owner called me and asked if our drummer had taken away the clutch from the kit whilst packing his gear away. Called the drummer who checked and it turned out he had. Called back Steve who was just grateful he had it, promised to bring it back in the next time, job done. I think it`s like most things in life, it`s how you speak to people. This guy sounds like a total noob and if you have other good options, I would go elsewhere. Sod getting accused of being a theif. Jez
4. The wilkinson bridge is a good piece of kit. I have one on my Squier MD and it looks the biz. http://www.axesrus.com/axeBassh.htm 14 quid posted. Jez
5. Hello there, welcome aboard! I play every day even if it`s just a 10min knockout. I usually play along with the music on the computer either learning a song that I`m gonna play or just working something out for the heck of it. I have joined a new band and we are "gettin it together in the studio" as they say, so I`m learning a new set at the mo, so plenty to keep me busy. It`s good that you are taking lessons and a Thumb is a good starter instrument Jez
6. What kind of idiot buys a bass that looks as sh*t as these? I like the Roadworn relics but there is a limit ya know. Words from his advert: So if you want a cool vintage bass that looks and sounds fantastic but have not got thousands to spare this could be for you. It should read: If you are a muppet with no taste, who doesn`t realise that I am rippin you off if you buy this piece of crap then this could be for you! Look at my feeback! Jez
7. That is quite simply stunning. Jez
8. I ordered a set of strings from Status the other day and got an e mail reply from Dawn apologising for the delay in getting back to me. They are up to their eyes in it the now due getting ready for the bass show. Still got the strings the next day though. I have only found this isssue with long scale strings on Fender basses and it hasn`t caused a problem but I know what you are getting at regarding the small diamater of Ibanez tuners. I don`t suppose you have had this problem before with other manufacturers of strings? +1 apa regarding the lengh of the string. I have had to buy a set of long scale Status half rounds to put on my Mike Dirnt as medium scale strings weren`t long enough due to the badass bridge. Jez
9. Hey 1 shot. Stick around over here. We are much nicer folk (well most of us). The bass is something else and sod all that Karma nonsense! Jez
10. Might be better sending Precision a pm. If you move your mouse over his name, a box appears and click on send message and he should get back to you. But I would imagine that it`s long gone! You could always put a posting in the wanted section of the marketplace. Jez
11. And Stingray`s. There seems to be a glut of really nice rays for sale on here just now. Thank god I don`t like them much. Jez
12.
I've been trying to figure out what a GISON is all day!
Well seein you work in a bloomin school! Yeah dlloyd that looks like the one. Ta. Jez
13. I`m right in thinking the Tokai is a set/neck through? I did the same mod to my Epi T bird Pro and I just drilled a hole right in the mid point of the neck where it met the body and it did the job. I would recomend you use a schaller straplock or something similar to secure the strap. I don`t have any photo`s as I sold it as I couldn`t get on with the shape. If it`s a bolt on, just take out one of the bolts and put the strap button on with a longer screw. Easy peasy! Jez
14.
I absolutely hate signature guitars. Its only a sales gimmick for dummies who think that by buying a sig bass will make them play like the person its named after. Funny old world
I think you will find that the people on here that own a Mike Dirnt sig P bass, including myself now, would disagree with you 100% on this. The TB bass looks good value for money. I have used the Wilkindon hardware on several basses and it`s really good gear. Their guitars always get a good write up as well. Jez
15. Mani, a question if you don`t mind. What happened to the Gibson SG you were playing on "this old town" with Weller on the Johnathan Ross show in 07 ish? Never seen you use it again. What a line up that was! Jez
16. Move up to Glasgow, look on gumtree and you will find lots of people looking for bass players. The majority of the advertisers are off their nut but hey you`ll get a laugh. Seriously, stick an ad in gumtree and partysounds as they are free and get your own thing together. Jez
17. I hope it is him. Top player and all round cool bloke. Jez
18. Just did a trade with Liam for his Mike Dint P. Good guy to deal with and no messing about. Jez
19. It`s all kicked off again with our friends across the pond. After having another thread about this bass stopped, the guy has had the bass inspected and has put up lots of new pics. Worth a look. 20. Bargin of the year. If I didn`t have one, I`d have it. If you are looking for a Jazz at a great price, here it is! A lot of people change the pickups but I find the DD one`s do the job fine. Jez
21. Good to here that Steven as I have a MD coming my way on tuesday! If this was Talkbass we could start a club!. How did the gig with the new band go? Jez
22. I have 2 squiers at the mo and they are both good. I have upgraded some of the hardware with half decent budget gear and have gigged them lots and I have never had any complaints. Like all mass produced things, if you get a good un, bingo!! Jez
23. Here we go regarding the neck: Blocks and binding were introduced in 66 The large block decal goes on the P and Jazz from 69 and was changed to the smaller size fron 76. At the same time the serial number moves from the neckplate to the face of the headstock under the logo. From 75 onwards, the jazz 3 bolt neck becomes the norm. This looks like the neck on the bass in question due to the truss rod. So, I reckon it`s a 75 or 76 neck. All info from the Fender bass book aka "fender bass bible." Jez
24. Don`t know about the bass but if it sells he should use some of the money for a full stop. Jez
25. Nah. The only people I dislike are singers. A nessecary evil!! Remember we are in the Entertainment business luvie!! Jez
