I'm not sure, but GE has a notice on his website saying "Unfortunately the Guitar Emporium is not trading at this time"
Malcom is still around and doing some trade, just not carrying stock, he can still obtain instruments for you: http://basschat.co.uk/index.php?showtopic=27825 Just need to email him or ring him.

You could always buy one of the DHA optical valve-based compressors: http://www.davehallamps.co.uk/Products,%20...sCompressor.htm If you hunt through basschat they get rave reviews....but they're a pound short of £150.

For your wrists, I'd recommend getting a Power Ball, it's not directly related to bass, but they do help quite drastically tone up and strengthen wrist muscles. Being a computer student, riding motorbikes and also having to use a computer all day at work over the summer I kept getting twinges of pain in my right wrist starting about 18 months ago, 6 months ago I got myself a powerball, it's been great, no more pain at all, although mine was due to the onset of RSI, it strengthens your fingers and arm as well. Can't sing it's praises high enough.

I think a lot of the negative reputation is based on the days when Gibson ran the company down from being one of the best Amp and Cab makers in the UK to a shell of a company producing products that were a pale comparison to their older stock. Now that Peavey have it, it should be better, but then again, some of the staff and designers that were at Trace back in the day have moved to Ashdown so it's a bit apples and oranges. At least Peavey do know their amp's, the only issue is the pricing, they're a tad on the expensive side with not a lot of variation.

Like most instruments, as you're playing a different kind of instrument, whether it bit Viola, Violin, Sax, Piano, Trumpet, Trombone, French Horn etc, it just opens you up to more music as you often play different styles or completely different genres. I often find myself playing some of the lines I learned on trumpet back in my early teens, they actually lend themselves quite well to bass (and if you want, can help brush up on your learning and reading of bass clef if you're transposing from treble clef) because there's no chords and you're only playing one note at a time. Can help with melodies and basslines, and also helps you learn the fretboard as well.

do it.

I love how people jump to "Shopped!!!" without even looking at the photo properly, that's definitely not a shop on the internet (a full professional 'shop could fake it, but they cost ££££££££). Nice to see he's using another instrument, hopefully he sounds better with a Rick compared to that 5 string he's got, which sounds dire whenever I hear it.
I remember years ago [snip] sat on my living room carpet, video remote in hand, frustratingly jogging back and forth...
Must...Resist...Joke...

EB MM 4 String 3 EQ - tiny chrome problem
Buzz replied to Musicman20's topic in Repairs and Technical
They're only chrome plated steel plates if I remember correctly, all it needs is a little bit of grease when it was being plated for it not to take very well. Chromium is a hard metal as well, so I suspect it's a bit brittle when it's under a mm thick. It's a bit like chipping paint off surfaces in chunks when it hasn't stuck too well, especially when there's a few layers of paint. Hamster's sounds like a faulty plate to be honest. -
Is your bass collection worth more than your car?
Buzz replied to birdy's topic in General Discussion
Yes. Then again, as my car is only worth about £400, it's not exactly a stretch, but that'll soon change as the car isn't really losing value any more and I intend to shift my Aero either to a shop (depending on price) or ebay next summer, and as my other 2 are a VMJ and a T-Bird they'll just about equal out. -
Amps may hate him, but now's a perfect time to find one that'll love him as an equal and not nag at him, make him do chores, beat him when his fingering goes wrong.......

Do you actually need another bass or do you just have £1k sitting around and feel like spending? You already have a vast versatile collection there, so perhaps Amplification is an area to look at?
Is that weird?? Why would you get dressed? I haven't left me flat today hence I haven't even put a pair of pants on! If people come round, I'd put some boxers on, but thats it.
It's just learned social behaviour really isn't it? Depends on how you're brought up of course, but it's social conditioning, in my case I get dressed because I've always got dressed after getting up, don't think I've ever spent the day just in my boxers because I wasn't planning on doing anything even when ill, ergo, I don't feel as if I've got up until I've got dressed. There's probably other issues if you really analysed it, such as equating being naked or in a state of undress (or part) to a feeling on vunerability, and putting clothes on is an armour of sorts, it's also probably attributed to the social stigma of being nude and how it's "naughty" or "wrong" outside of a few situations. But just like my flatemate always wears pj's, and you're naked, if you feel the most comfortable doing that, it's what you do at home. Edit: Yes, betty swollocks when driving is a pain, baggy shorts and loose boxers are great.
< Me. I think its weird that people wear clothes in their own homes. Why get them dirty? I only dress to go out. As soon as I get in I strip again.
You are my housemate AICMFP. Well, partly at least, he wears PJ's pretty much 99% of the time when he's at home, only getting dressed to face the world.

^^ I've never got the hating on Hucknall band wagon, I'd also like an explaination.

I'd also +1 the Tokai, don't get me wrong, the epi's are cracking basses for the money (I've just this week bought one 2nd hand after regretting selling the last one) and they sound amazing, but the Tokai comes with a much better bridge as standard (the gibbo 3 point is rubbish) and I've not heard a bad word against them.

I have to pose the question regarding the sound of the basses: Is everyone judging it on the solo sound (from special clips, singled out tracks, solos etc) or on the sound as it sits in the mix? I only ask because I remember a similar discussion on these boards (may have been BW) about a couple of artists (big ones at that) who deliberately had a tone which sounded rubbish solo'd but when in the general mix it sounded good.

Got one when I was 16, a very good guitarist friend turned me onto the idea, I do like playing it, and also am picking up a bit of guitar, I'm just rubbish at both (lack of natural talent and lack of practice). It's actually a bit poor to be as bad as I am 5 years later. Played trumpet when I was 9 till 12/13, heart wasn't in it really, actually got the instrument by error as I tried out for Violin (lack of natural talent showing here, I failed on some note distingushing tests, my ear's much better now and I wouldn't mind giving it a go again) then went to see the brass teacher when I meant to see the sax teacher. Ahh well. Still, I do have my Grade 1 in the trumpet somewhere.

This is why I love cheesy songs on a night out, they're just FUN. Playing them is good as well

Christ man, after being a cheeky sod and getting that "endorsement" deal, get the Dano. Go off the beaten track and bit, you might like it, I want to try one, just not a fan of slab bodies but I could perhaps put up with it if I really like one.

Isn't 4.7kohm a bit low for a p-pup on a fender? I thought it was around 8ish.

How much is too much? It's when you've done too much, much to young and you're...... Seriously though, I'm looking at around £450-500 for my next bass. I only want one so my other 2 will be sold.
