1. Could you not get one of those hardcases (well, flightcase) in which you have to cut the foam yourself?
2. Crikey, thread necrophillia at its finest.
3. In all honesty, why spend £50 or £70 on a pup to put in an affinity p-bass you're thinking of buying, unless the damn thing is an amazing player, that money would be better spent on a better bass from the outset. That £50 will easily get you a standard, and probably also a Classic Vibe p-bass, which quite frankly, will be much better than the affinity, not just by virtue of having better hardware, the upper Squier models seem to have much much tighter QC. I also ask why you'd want to change the pups without actually hearing what's in the affinity, could be the sound you're looking for.
4. Aye, what BassManKev said. That said, there have been a large number of VMJ's owned by people on BC and I've not actually seen a single bad word said against them barring individual shops not setting them up very well, and even then it's only been an action problem. Same goes for the Classic Vibe range. Affinity and standard on the other hand are very much try before you buy.
5. Rough guide, my personal opinion, worst at the top: Affinity Standard Artist* Deluxe* CV* VM* *All roughly on par with each other Rough guide mind you, individual models may vary
6. Oh crikey, the search function is your friend on this, so is google. Basically it boils down to the difference in neck profile, with the jazz neck being slimmer, and the pup options (and overall sound). P's only really have a couple of sounds, one being dubby with the tone rolled off, the other being a rocky mid sound with the tone on. The P bass is the defacto standard of basses though, it might only do a couple of things, but it does those things extremely well. Jazz's are more versatile soundwise. That's about it, it's personal preference like with any bass really.
7. I thought you were after a bc rich custom shop, or was that Lorne?

Squier Jazz

Are you two sure? I'll go have a good look at mine one later then.

Squier Jazz

Not alot really imo, it's mostly personal preference. With the VMJ you get a maple, black blocked bound neck, although the blocks are painted on and arn't real, and the neck has a rather lovely satin finish to it. I've got one, it's alright, I want new pups for it as they're not what I'm looking for soundwise. And the body is all maple. The Classic Vibe gives you a synthetic bone nut (same one as the MIA Fenders I believe), a High Mass Bridge (much better than the stock bent tin that's on the VMJ, again the same as the MIA Fenders) and you get vintage style frets (slightly thinner fretwire methinks) and a basswood body coupled to a gloss finished neck sporting a rosewood fretboard. The basswood will be lighter and easier to wear for long periods, my MIJ Aerodyne is basswood, nice and light. They're both the top of the Squiers so QC shouldn't be a problem. Personally I'd go with the Classic Vibe if I had to replace mine, partly as it seems to come with newer and better designed hardware, but also because the price difference and I'd quite fancy a white jazz with a tort plate. Don't get me wrong, I do like my VMJ, it's nice to play and definitely worth the £230ish it cost me 2 summers ago but I think I'd rather have the better nut.
10.
I think Jools is in danger of playing it a bit too safe every year with his Hootenany. It's all got a bit too cabaret for me - seems like too much of an old boys/girls club now. The Tube went like that - started good but seemed to degenerate into the Tina Turner show after a while.
Catch 22 surely? As the show gets bigger, "bigger" acts become available to appear, pressure from beeb management for at least some sort of ratings boost means you've got to accept the bigger acts, but then show moves away from what gave it ratings in the first place, show fails from grace, but if you don't accept those acts, you're going against management/producers and risk the show being hurt budget wise or being cancelled.
11. I think he means literally to the right of the hand, there are 2 small pedals, one black and one white.
12.
Ok shoot me down in flames, but that Dave Swift maybe the an excellant player but he's a bit wooden. he has all the charisma of a fish.
Hold the phone! Bass players arn't meant to hide by the drummer, hold the bassline and the rhythm down? Well, stone the crows, that's news to me
13. I thought it wasn't very good to be honest, last year's was much better, but I got increasingly annoyed not by the singing talent, but by Al Murray (who's normally quite good) and Lenny Henry (who's only good on tour or tv with a rehearsed act, when I saw his tour at Warwick Arts Centre a couple of years ago I thought he was quite good). Dizzie Rascal was ace though, as it's not a bad song, and he actually performed it with gusto, to me, stole the show.
14.
SO how did I get from Sheehan to Anti semitism of the Europe in the 30s/40s....
Well, I've heard it's just a jump to the left, followed by a step to the right, and then with your hands on your hips, you bring your knees in tight...
15. Again? They've already increased them by about that t'other month.
16. Differences: Neck profile, pup position and type, and the sound. Advice: Find both and try them and get the one you like to play more.
17. Blimey, that's rather swish that is. Probably one of the best builds I've read on here.
18.
A knob dude
Arn't we all?
19. A pup (or pups) not actually wired via a pot, bypasiing it methinks.
20. I'd say the extension lead is faulty and the ground connection has been broken, but there's also a good chance that other equipment is at fault too, not just the mixer or mic, I'm thinking about your amp and rack equipment. That's just a guess mind you, however, what I can say is stop playing around with the damn thing and STOP USING THE EXTENSION, it doesn't take a lot of 'leccy to kill you if it travels down through your heart.
21.
I scanned through the first page and no one made a joke in relation to tossing off. Shame on you basschat, what have you cum to?
I was tempted, sorely so, but I managed to hold off, I wasn't going to be first this time, oh no.
22. Crikey, well that's quite a big leap for a 1st gig. Good luck chap!
23. Whoops, slightly my fault it went wrong as I put the octave on the wrong line of the tab. I'll use the fact I've got the flu as an excuse for such an silly mistake, honest guv'.
24. -------5 -------- -7------ ---5-3-- Arf, never too early for an octave. Edit: To put the 5 back where I accidently put it, rather than where it should have been, ergo it is now no longer an octave.
25. I like that Much better than the standard natural Warwick fare.
