On a Jazz, the S1 pups the pups in series, just like a p-pup (but streched over a bigger distance and all the strings), but you lose the fun of having the varied sound from the traditional jazz setup. So, it sounds similar to a P-Bass. Hurrah. Personally, if you mate thinks a jazz sounds crap without it, he should sell it on and buy a P, as he'll probably like that even more.

Oddly, I reckon that redwood top would look good stained, black or dark blue methinks. Perhaps a thin burst, specially if it's a black stained one. Mmmm blackburst over stained top. Mmmmmmmm. Edit: Oh yeah, and remove that neck pup, and the slidey switch, and put the 2eq back, kthanx

Erugh, no ta, now where's my mug of tea?

Yay, always nice to see a RIM build coming along, and that maple top is understated and lush.

Well, the one in the OP is the old version of his sig bass. New version: http://www.fender.com/products//search.php?partno=0252602350 Mirror pickguard? Better in Hammer colours.
Crowd pulling power is no guarantee of goodness, look at Adolf ?
Bad choice of comparison as Adolf was very good at what he did, however what he did was very very bad. The Stones do have some good songs imo, I wouldn't mind watching them live. As for Trujillo, good bass player, I loathe the tone he keeps using with Metallica from all the live videos I've seen, but I reckon he's a good thing for 'tallica, the band have been interviewed a number of times saying he's had a fair bit of creative input on Death Magnetic, hopefully he continues to do so, you never know, they might have one or two corkers left in them with help from Trujillo.

Amazing bass finish! Merged with Ritter Thread (same subject!)

I like the halves seperately, I think an entire bass with that blue flame would look lush. Kind of reminds me of lightning or an electrical storm. The bottom looks a bit too busy for my liking. -

OH GOD, MY EYES!!! That's a bit frantic and trippy. Also, was there any need to post it in here AND in bass guitars? http://basschat.co.uk/index.php?showtopic=38332 -

See, I do ponder if a Neo 8x10 would make it a helluva lot more managable by shaving off a fair number of kilos. Food for thought.

Daft Suggestion, email Trace Elliot, they should still have access to the old records from the 80's to the late 90's. Failing that, send a polite letter to Ashdown, there is a bunch of ex-Trace people there, I'm sure they might be able to give you an idea of when it was built, I don't suspect the combination is that common.

What's the most over-rated bass, or bass related product???
Buzz replied to silverfoxnik's topic in General Discussion
I'd argue the wood point, as for some reason people assume that once you pluck a string that's it, the vibration starts and stops there. That isn't true, the vibration (*simplified view ahead*) echos through the body and importantly back to the strings. That's what contributes to sustain and overall tone from the strings. The wood does make a difference, as does hardware, which is why people generally notice more sustain when fitting for example, a badass II in place of the Fender Bent Tin bridge, it's much better at transferring the vibrations to and from the strings and the body. How much difference is the question that needs to be solved, I think electrics make a bigger and much more noticable difference. Either way, to swing back on topic: This is bass related, I hate inconsistancy on mass produced instruments in regards to crucial items like lining the neck up (or the bridge) properly with the other main components. I'll put a warning up on BC if my T-Bird goes on t'bay so I can pass it off to someone else, it's playable, it just narks me and makes playing it a bit harder. -
I'm missing something here. The OP link takes me to an archived page. The transfer link takes me to the new forum, and a link to Warwick.de, which refers to Namm 2009, but appears to show old-stock pictures. I have yet to find a Rockbass with a two-part bridge. What links are you guys following? David
http://forum.warwick.de/showthread.php?t=7676 They've slightly changed their addressing with regards to their forum since the original link was posted it seems.
Never heard of a Fender VI then? It's shorter than a usual Fender, but I don't think it counts as a Baritone guit. Roy Babbington of Soft Machine played one for years....
The Fender VI is indeed was the baritone I was referring to, as it is indeed a baritone guitar, but I have been corrected by that other post. Which is semi awesome.
I'm actually more interested in the vintage gibson thunderbird sat next to that unfinished body!
Sharp eyes, I missed that. Ooooooooooooooooooh This is quite amusing tho, normally it's all quiet on the T-Bird front, then 2 threads come along at once (the other being the new T-Bird Pro's, which are lush), not complaining mind you, but it's going no good for my GAS for a good T-Bird (mine's a Friday Afternoon Special).

I think the reasoning behind using a Tele is that it's the opposite to bass with it's bright harsh jangly tones. Opposites attract and all that.
-
I got mine today, in black for my T-bird. I'll 2nd the well built comments, but raise the fact that while I got the saddle tightening allen key, I didn't get the mounting bolt one or the instructions! Huzzah! Gonna have to source an allen key the correct thickness as I've not gone one and thanks to the alignment being slightly off by about a 0.5 mm, I can't hand tighten them either, one's flush but the other is half out. Bummer. I wouldn't mind but with the2 sets of bolts, one's thicker than the other, but the thicker ones have slightly smaller holes for the allen key, I can bodge a screw driver to fit those, the small bodied bolts have larger holes which I can't bodge. Double bummer. Looks proper lush though, and the adjustment is a godsend as either my neck or my bridge wasn't aligned properly when the bass was made, E string is very near the edge of the fretboard.

I have a Tele' Although mine is a Squier Affinity and it's B-stock at that, bought for a play around really....so much so that I've now got an Aston acoustic (should have spent the extra £60 and bought an Overwater for ~£210ish), and I've a refin and upgrade job on a £60 Swift Les Paul Copy. I did however realise I had more guitars than basses at the end of last year so I went out and bought a T-Bird to even the numbers

Looking snazzy chap, I'm impressed by all the work you've put into it
-
Although filing the saddles is what you want to do, are you sure the rattle is bridge end of the bass and not at the tuning peg? After all, you've just restrung it, is the flangy nut thingie on the face of the headstock slightly loose? Or is the saddle level and seated properly? I haven't filed my on my VMJ, and I don't notice any sort of rattle, nor did I when I had the badass on my Aerodyne.

QC wise is down the company and the factory, there are a number of companies that keep a very close eye on QC of their produced items. Feature wise is a different story, like Fender for example, all the USA models also have much better features such as the bone nut as standard, the new high mass bridge, better pups, rolled edges on the fingerboard etc... If those features were on a bass made not in a "premier" country so to speak, then would it be better or worse....I'd say very likely they'd be no noticable difference if there is one. Hell, look at some of the Squier range, VMJ's I've never ever heard a bad word upon in regards to QC, and the new hardware from the MIA range is trickling down, all the new Classic Vibe range sport synthetic bone nuts and High mass bridges. But you're talking about mass produced instruments. Basses like Ric's for example all have hand finished necks, so unless you can find skilled workers (or train them up) who care about instruments and how the instruments feel, and being honest, those skills lie in UK/Europe/USA etc (because it's essentially a skill learned commonly as a hobby first before trying to make a career out of it), you're going to struggle to match the quality level, so the basses have to be made where they're made and benefit from the skills of the staff.

I think Bloodaxe on here has a bass with a kahler tremolo, might be an idea to PM him to see whether it's worth it. And you will need to do some routing to the bass.
-
Yes, you're on your own chap, they look lush. Although I'll give you the headstock of the Fiver look a bit iffy as the painted top isn't on a parallel line to the laminates, looks fine on the 4 as it falls nicely over just one of the laminates.
-
Right, remember what I said on the first page about being fairly happy with my basses? After seeing the news of the Epiphone T-Bird Pro's I've got serious GAS. I might have one come summer time methinks.
-
Al, you're doing a copy, does it have to be that perfect as to get the correct headstock angle? And now I think about it, what about the other one you did, would that also not have an angled headstock?
