1. Play nearer the bridge or just simply learn to play with a lighter touch.
2. Sticky, right at the top of this forum is recommended luthiers: http://basschat.co.uk/index.php?showtopic=26654 Anyone there has been recommeneded because they do a good job.
3. http://www.auroraproject.co.uk/ Aurora project will do them, sadly they've not been getting mentioned enough on here recently.
The problem is a good Gibson will cost you twice as much as an equally good Fender. Also depends a lot if you like Mahogany, apart from the Ripper period.
Eh? With MIA Fenders being around £900 with the current price rises, Gibbo's arn't much more in all honesty.

Thunderbirds sound brilliant, they honestly do.
6. Middle picture, but swap it around to E-A is closer to the bridge, but there's still an ~inch between both sets of D-G pups would be my choice. Too close and you wouldn't get much sound variation. Although, if I was going to route it, I'd whip out the other P-pup and put soapbars in.
7. He has a guitar shop, it's not a big jump to fetish equipment from there, probably some of the same customers. And I concur with Prosebass, one of the petshops in my home town has closed recently, the reason is that the owners of the building put up the rent so the business become unprofitable. Now all that's there is an empty shop, that strikes me as stupid on the owners part, as instead of having rent at X, they wanted rent at X + Y, but instead they've now got 0 coming in from it and will still be paying some basic outlay on the building. Some people are just too greedy.
8. Try a local haberdashery? Long shot, but they might stock foam.
9. Hold on to it, if Roadsters are anything to go by, it'll be worth more in 30 years than it is now.
10. Dead spot eh? Get yourself a small G clamp to alter the headstock mass, then if that cures it, go buy a FatFinger, which is a neater professional G-Clamp device.
11.
I always think Tele's look pretentious then again I dislike Strats. SG FTW
Pffft, Tele's are pretentious yet you choose an SG, the rock god wannabe guitar? Interesting As for the topic: Jazz body shape is excellent, pick up positions are good, balance is good, controls are simple and good. Yeah, they work. I havn't played a P in a while though, I think I did like the neck though.
12. Ordered a T-bird and some pedals (seperate order) from them...oooh, 3 or 4 years ago, that was fine. Haven't really used them for more than that, but I had no problems then.
13. Pretend you're a hamster and store it a couple in your cheeks? The Dunlop holder is quite good though.
14. For £110? Buy it. You can't lose money on it if you decide it's not for you, and that's stupidly cheap for a good bass.
15.
Oh Oh! New trace Vid on youtube, Trace Elliot
At least they don't take themselves too seriously
16. As a side tangent: Anyone got an old car? If yes, hold onto it for now, the Gov' are on the verge of releasing a new scheme to bolster business and to get newer greener cars out on the roads in place of the bangers. Apparently they're planning on offering 2.5k for an old banger, I've no idea what they've classed an old banger as, but I'd presume it'll be pre-2001 cars or something similar, but considering a brand new car can be had for about 6k these days, and you could be getting £2.5k for a car worth £500, I'm waiting to see what happens as a new car for 3/4k on which the depreciation will be minimal is a good thing. Also, I've managed to start all these paragraphs with the letter A.
17.
There is nothing modern looking about a Status though! During the mid to late 80's in became fashionable to make things look "futuristic" - that's what you get with a Status. Much like any headless bass. They look 80's.
What about the non-headless versions, eg, T-Bass or The Headed S2 ? Although, I'll grant you the full carbon look on the Stealth is a bit half and half, it's modern...but has a twinge of 80's looks due to the full carbon.
18. That's rather cunning. All you'd need to do is put some non-stick rubber on the top and you'd be sorted. Perhaps modify the top to make it square, and include some sort of adjustable cushioned rest for the headstock. Sorted.
19. Find friends, make band. Not find band, try and make friends with band members*. You generally then pick people you get on with and are more in tune with you and know how each other act and react, although if it all goes to sh*t there is a chance of losing good friends. *Unless you're a pro, in which case you can be paid enough to put up with the crap.
20. It might be, but you cannot be insisting that a bass manufacturer would delve into poor taste and do a joke on April The 1st? Shirly?
21. That looks horrid, and those knobs are really small (fnarr) which probably make them unusable. Then you've got the added fact of valve drawing power from a battery, and inside a bass, where it's going to have to be secured so it doens't come loose and you lose all sound. Novel concept, but not one that should have seen reality imo.
22. If Jeff Berlin does appear on here, I hope it won't be a repeat of the last incident where a professional came on here.
23. You've downtuned, so there will be less tension in the strings, yes, you'll need to tweak the truss rod. Is it worth it for one song....unless you're performing infront of someone who's going to give you lots of money or not kill you if you play that one song, then no.
24. He's got a great 'tash though hasn't he? I can see where he's coming from, and that he's got a point, commercial music is vocal driven...but popular music has pretty much always been so. I will say I do here a lot less musical "hooks" in modern music though, but I suppose part of that is down to modern manufactured stuff being pap.
