Has anyone ever added a musicman pickup to a single coil p bass?
i personally think it would look better with an MM. I dont like expanses of body with nothing there- each to their own of course! Sandberg are a manufacturer that have a P/MM config and if i recall its quite popular
+1 I think with an MM in there, it'll look great. -
Unless I'm being slow, the issue with the harp? I'm presuming cutting strings, and there being lots of expensive strings?
presumably I'm looking for a narrow, shallow neck, a low action, and a relatively flat fingerboard?
Ibanez basses for sure if that's set in stone. A Jazz bass (or clone of) might suit you as well. As a side note for instruments that would suit the skilled...above £150-200 and you're sorted these days. Lots of the budget basses, which normally seen in the hands of beginners, aren't to be sniffed at. Squier, Vintage and SX all put out awesome cheaper instruments that really put the "non-budget" basses to shame, doubly so in the case of Squier vs Fender, as you'll come to note on this board quite often, the Vintage Modified and Classic Vibes are really good basses with tight QC at the factory. I'll also stick my neck out for the new Epiphone T-Bird Pro's, although they're not out yet, and no-one knows how they sound, the neck dimensions are quite narrow.

Do you own the most expensive bass on Basschat
So, at what point does an expensive bass become too expensive to comfortably take to a gig?
Standard "safe" answer to everything: When you can't afford to replace it. Ideally, the "safe" answer implies that if you've dropped £1k on a bass, you should have £1k (or have it insured to the value of £1.1k, the extra is to cover insurance) to replace it tomorrow if need be. The real world version means you've got enough cash to buy a beater that will do the job in the first's place should something go nips north. I have a very similar view on buying items of worth, means less stress if something goes wrong. -
Ah, so the Customs are bascially the same as the 50/60's amps that built Hiwatts rep, what with them being hand point to point wired. Quite expensive at ~£1500 for the 200w, but also fairly labour intensive work, so I can see why they cost quite a bit even if a bit is markup. Does make you wonder what Orange are playing at with the AD200b though, as that's using circuit boards to a large extent with quite a few cost cutting measures on board, such as pots wired to the pcb, just how on earth they can charge £1200ish while Hiwatt are only charging £200/300 more for a full point to point hand wired amps.

Curveball here, but have a look outside of bass playing for a cause. Do you use hand moisturiser or greasy products during the week which get on your finger tips (which you don't wash/rub off) ? As that could be a reason why your callouses have turned to blisters -> you've softened them somehow. Don't blame it on the playing as 4 hours isn't too bad.

Pretty much what Josh said. Such Mini discussion threads seem to flow a lot better than the use of lots and lots of threads in Offtopic, and it can be used for general ramblings. They're also pretty good for community feelings I've found, as people banter and actually converse a lot more on them, rather than having to access specific threads regarding specific subjects. It'll also allow the Off-Topic section threads to be more concise and specific with regards to questions, answers and views. If you've never used one you should give one a go, you'll soon see just how nice they are.

Now, this recent spate of threads degenerating into conversations in Offtopic pinged off the ol' thought processes and I thought of perhaps an online chat feature, but then thought, by god no, far too serious to run in the background. However, I then thought...why not just have a discussion board? A good example is b3ta's message board: http://www.b3ta.com/board/ Have it as a subboard to off topic, people can converse all they like! Yes/No/Get back to your hole?

So, what you're saying is that Fender and Co are trading on name only and are delivering sub standard instruments in regard to their legacy, and if you want the same sort of quality you need to go to other brands which have a more hands on approach, eg, Rick, Sadowsky, etc... or buy something from the time when they earned their legacy. 'Cus it certainly sounds like that, and it's a point that quite a few people on here have been murmoring for the past year or so.

Top work! Aquired a new GB Ferret? That one looks fretted as it isn't the P-style.
-
That looks pretty good

Er, crikey, when did the masses of basschat become so bitchy towards people. Bloody hell.
By strange coincidence there's one for sale as we speak on evil bay (USA version).
I know, it's the top google result. Looks tatty though.

According to wiki P and a quick google, it's a Veillette-Citron Standard 4 String; A joint luthier effort, they've both (Veillette and Citron) have gone their seperate ways so the basses arn't available as such.
-
Criminy, that's a double fault by me this evening. Well played sir, well played. Same again next Tuesday? xx

Anybody used the Rotosound Nexus strings yet ?
Buzz replied to markdavid's topic in Accessories and Misc
I wonder what the tension is like on them. -
Non American, German infact: Hofner (yes, I'm too lazy to add the umlaut). Specifically the Violin basses that Sir Paul loves. As for Danelectro, I may have implied they weren't American, but I never said so (even tho they were probably more popular over here)
-
Sod that, we did Amplification instead. Although, the DanElectro basses are suitably iconic, such as the Longhorn, even if it's not a bonafide classic.
-
Cash COD? I know they're good for you, but it's no wonder they're over fished if they give up cash as well. I always wondered why fishermen have the look of smug gits beneath their yellow coats.

Wooten is a very good player, however, the bass isn't really suited to being a solo instrument or the lead instrument (it can do leads occasionally, but it really isn't suited to it due to the area of the sonic spectrum it covers), at least not in the way he plays. Near enough every clip I see where he's without the full band isn't impressive to listen too, even if it's technically impressive. On the other hand, the clips where he's part of a band generally sound pretty good, so I'd rather not judge him as a solo artist but more as a bassist. There is a reason why people like Santana/Vai/Satriani are widly known by people outside of their instrument, rather then solely being known by the people who use the instrument.
-
Are they custom luthier built ones to order? Or are they luthier stock basses? Either way, looks lush.
This was 1921
. Blimeh, nice to see the OAP's are still kicking out and about playing live music, you look 50 years younger mate

Hmm, parts of me think the bass is clashing in places and vying for attention, other parts think it's rather good as the bass seems to be carrying the melody over the repetitive (and rhythmic) guitar parts. Definitly doesn't hinder the tune though.
