Well, it's certainly striking, almost a stealth bass if it wasn't for the paintwork. It is however, nearly my ideal jazz bass in terms of pickup combinations, a decent bridge, and a 21 fret neck. Oh, and does anyone else think of Blake's 7 when they read Liberator?

OP is a lovely person, rude to both benwhite and myself and decides to ignore advice given. Charming. Now, geared toward the op: As a fyi, I did ask you questions so I could give answers and you brushed them aside, then decided to have a pop for not giving you suggestions straight off the bat, whether that's ignorance/arrogance or stupidity I'm not sure, but as you've probably spotted, not answering have given you a nice big selection of answers with no basis for what would suit you. So, how do you like your *current* strings tension wise? Are they stiff enough to support a bridge or are they floppy? That's a good marker for the brands people will offer you on here, as if you want super stiff everyone will point at Rotosound flats for the most part, whereas the TI flats are of much lower tension and more pliable. You must also have some indication of the sound you want if you know you want flats, do you want a full on dead dub sound, or some highs to it? Give more information and you get better answers.

Without trying to be rude, there is a search function on this forum, you've asked such a general question with no real information about what you like that there can be many answers. High tension, low tension, somewhere in the middle, dull flats, lively (well, as lively as flats can be), or perhaps ground/pressure wound are more your area? Honestly, do a search for "flatwound" strings, it'll keep you reading for ages. Also, the Misc board a couple down is where a lot more string questions get asked, of which you've already found and put an identical post there....quite odd. Bearing in mind this is a mostly European based forum so if you did it in order to get lots of responces... well most people are sleeping at this time of night, and unlike Talkbass and certain other bass forums, non of us really linger just in one section (well, barring some of the Offtopic people and the URB players), so the topics do get read by lots of people anyway.

You could do exercises and stretches to strengthen your shoulder, core and back muscles as well. Solving the root problems (poor back and core strength) rather than just getting around it by buying lighter equipment. Just an option mind you. Good choice of avatar as well chap.
-
Ah, I see, logical choice then! They do look lovely though.

Why two identical basses though? It would make perfect sense if one was fretless and t'other fretted, but seems unusual to get two identical basses made.

In music in general, I blame Pete Waterman and the Hit Factory. They started, honed and perfected the formulatic approach that overran the mainstream media. It also made them very rich, so can't fault them.

Like Rhino says, give newtone strings a ring, they custom make strings, I know a number of people use them on here for their ERB's.

Er, lots of people offer P-J combos why just stick to Fender? ESP,Dean, and lots of luthiers will offer PJ's etc If you're dead set on a Fender, there was a late 80's Special with a P-J config, a number of people have them on here and they crop on on ebay occasionally. I think Zoe_Billysheehan has one currently, with Dood or Ped having owned one in the past. You coud also do a parts bass. I will say this on the Aerodyne, try it first. It's an unchamfored body which may not get along with your playing style, plus I found with mine that the J-pup was overpowered by the P-pup, but that's just down to it not having enough clout. *My Jap only export model may be for sale in 2/3 months time as a heads up*

Pickup and bridge advice for EB0 modding
Buzz replied to harryharold's topic in Accessories and Misc
For the brigde, if you've got the original 3 peg holes still, I'd say get a Hipshot Supertone as they're designed to replace the gibbo 3 point bridge. I've got a black one for sale for £50 posted if you're interested. -
What have I been working on? Learning chords on guitar. Oh yes, I've fallen prey to our skinny brethrin. That and it'll help my bass playing no end.
Sell both and buy a bass that looks and sounds good?
Selling both wouldn't raise the funds for a Status Buzzard though.
Ive to do a talk on Friday..to a handful of 13-16 year olds....I wonder what sort of questions Im going to get?
Can you make a new thread on the questions you get (if any) Argh? I'd be quite interesting in reading them, I presume they're all budding musicians?

I thought the whole point of off-topic was not to simply delve into random conversations, but simply be other topic from the main interest from the rest of the board (eg, it's not about basses or bass related equipment). Each seperate thread is a topic unto itself.

There's no decline. There's simply more people who arn't as good, bringing the average down. The people who have talent and the determination to learn and play well will be there playing well. The record companies don't help with the wham, bang, thank you ma'am approach to getting one or two albums done.

T-Bird gets the vote from me. And I don't see how you can't get a useable sound out of it, they're bloody built for raawwwwk!

Don't buy the behringer valve pedals! Well, at least not the VT911, as it's got a flimsy push switch and the stock valve is crap (lots of people state that a lower gain named valve brings it to life though) as it's a great big fat dirty distortion pedal rather than just overdrive (see, lower gain valve). It also hisses a bit, but that could be the cheap valve. The VT999 is a better bet for the extra £10-15, as it's got an onboard EQ and a noise gate (good!).

On reflection, due to the nature of steel, there is an outside chance that if you were to heat the entire string carefully and evenly to white hot (but not enough to melt it), it might completely rejuvinate the string as you will be applying enough heat to alter the structure and temper them again. Or it might bugger them. Eitherway, anyone with a blowtorch and the needed support equipment fancy trying it out? And you might get carbon scoring all on your fingers when you play, but that's only a minor issue.
-
Ah, touche! I missed that one. And, no, I did gather where you were quoting from, however, due to the nature of forums, you were pointing out the flaws in the the post you quoted for the OP's benefit. Fire and meths does actually go quite well together, fantastic for heating things like mini steam engines and the like. Just don't light an entire bottle, it needs to be regulated.
-
You're right, METHS AND FIRE is a much better idea...
Quite frankly, that shouldn't need explaining. And by pointing it out you're insinutating that the OP isn't clever enough to realise that, surely that's a tad insulting?
-
Ou7shined: Neither, not hot enough to affect steel/nickel at that level, the heat will make it expand a little though. But use meths instead, it'll be more effective and it's better.

It's works out at just over a year of solid 24 hours a day playing....crikey.
