Small valve amps. Caution; guitar related content
Bolo replied to leftybassman392's topic in General Discussion
Oh boohoo. A bit of plastic got hurt cry cry. This guy has offered more solid / sound advice to musicians trying to improve than most forums have. Sure you can disagree with him, and it's easy to hate the way that he says things but he is sincere and usually gives good reason why. In an age where the pneumatic press channel has millions of subscribers and trash is literally becoming a threat to the human race, this anger at someone who destroyed one thing he gave plenty of reason to dislike is fairly futile to say the least. -
Is the wireless using lossy compression or throwing away part of the data?

I use the Sennheiser HD 25-1 at home, comfy and pleasant with good detail in the low end. The HD200 are a different animal, not comparable! HD25 pads and wire etc are all available sold separately. Beyerdynamic DT770 pro are very popular cans among drummers. Many bassists like them too. If you want a neat headset that the dog can chew without great upset have a look at the Samson SR850! Owned and used by most studios, cheap but surprisingly flat response! Not for hifi but great for silent practice etc. Can not go wrong.

If it were my value for money I'd look for a Kustom defender either the 5h or 15h. I use a 15h for bass at home and it's a seriously underrated piece of equipment! -
I have two feet but am 1.92 m tall. It doesn't do to hold with these freedom units.

3/4 length or full scale for child learner?

A demonstration should have cured that surely? -
Yay lead fumes! Lead free is fine for me.

I change batteries on my active basses annually when I put fresh strings on. The old battery goes in the smoke detector and serves flawlessly for another year (so far, only been doing this for two decades). I get the batteries from Lidl, 2 for €1,84. Never failed. From soundcheck to breakdown the bass is plugged in, also during rehearsal, 4 hours every week. Unplugged at home unless I'm practicing.

It's not just cutting the lines and tapping the frets in is it? The whole thing gets set up for the correct action, the string to fingerboard hight, relief, it will need work done throughout. Perhaps look if there is someone with the opposite problem first? A straight swap would be easier, cheaper and maybe even reversible depending on agreeing partners.

I use the Verellen Meatsmoke preamp pedal. Two lovely tube stages with full gain-low-mid-high-master each.

This album can report to the "songs I never have to hear again" thread. Can't stand the meager offerings and energy sucking blandness myself. I agree this is probably my own shortcoming but there it is.

The 3 Songs You Never Want To Hear Again - Ever

Needs more cowbell though! I have weirdly specific tastes, I'd happily go without anything that's ever been on top of the pop or in the top 40 kind of stuff. -
Zeal & Ardor is worth a listen. Try the Devil is Fine album. More easy to listen to is Madeleine Peyroux: Careless love.

Baby on the way! What's some chilled bass driven songs to play?

POLL - Are bass players the most reliable band members?
Bolo replied to Dubs's topic in General Discussion
I am runner-up I think. Lead guitar is the most solid player I know, I do bass/vox. Rythm guitar is a nice guy and always shows up on time but doesn't like to put on a show and doesn't practice much at home. The drummer founded the band... -
You just had to bring it up didn't you. Couldn't let sleeping dogs lie.

Speaking from across the wet bit, I've traded some pedals through here, ordered from UK companies and even flew in from the Netherlands to trade a bass at the airport! Nothing but smooth transactions.

I have 5. One in bits that I should put together sometime (MTD first Korean edition and upgrades to hardware and electronics). One is just being pretty and I should sell because I don't play 4strings anymore but I don't have the heart yet (June '00 absolutely mint B.C.Rich Beast USA). One hollowbody that I use at home, friends or family for acoustic jams. (Dean Stylist Cabbie) Then there are two that I gig, rehearse etc. Spector Euro 5LX and the Cellar V.

I own 5 basses. Sold 2 and traded one in 30 years of playing (damn I'm getting on!). Second place so far it seems!

Is 40dB SPL - 60dB SPL generally.

In the US and Japan Jackson gets played a lot in the broad spectrum of Rock, all the way to modern country&western. The pointy headstock may have appealed to metalheads but it's mainly the reliable build quality, durability and solid tone why metal-musicians often choose Jackson.

Ears suffer from attrition. Literally wear&tear. Due to age, exposure to high volumes, genetics and some medication (chemo, vancomycin and others) the inner ear deteriorates. When you suspect something is out of the ordinary: go see an ENT doc and do a clinical hearing test. Asymmetrical hearing, everyone mumbling, pain, tinnitus, it doesn't matter. Make an appointment to have it checked out! Ask your ENT about earplugs. Ask them about bone conduction and the occlusion effect. This is why all Christmas tree style and molded earplugs have an open center canal, with the filter rated for certain decibels in it. Stop making assumptions and go have a chat. Even if the waiting list can be long.

A discussion was started, qualified professionals chimed in with valuable information. If one insists on discussing OPs manner of conduct I suggest one starts a new topic or take it to private messaging because it is making the contents of the topic that are actually quite interesting hard to read. Thanks.

OOstephan and Waterofthyne are correct, there is a boost in SPL around 125-250 Hz in bone conduction when the auditory canals are blocked. And it is the reason for the open tube in earplugs, where the filter is placed that determines the final attenuation level. The denser the filter the higher the attenuation, but also the higher chance of occlusion effect. Because circumaural style earmuffs or eardefenders lock in a larger volume of air to be moved, the occlusion effect is deminished. It simply takes more energy to move more air.
