  1. A true gent and a genius, he did (iirc) Huntingdon Hall in Worcester some years back and was amazing to watch and great to talk to afterwards, best wishes to Mr Giltrap.
  2. Nice one I like the sound of that, good site to visit from time to time to check things out etc cheer for sharing, thats been put it in the faves box.
  3. I find that I have to play my others basses, to try and get a better sound or feel out of them , to "better" my Stingray, its like I always have to try and challenge my Stingray with my other basses to try and stop me playing it all the time, and probably to keep the Mrs quiet about "you can only play one at a time" ..... "yes dear but it's about the different sounds etc...." (insert fave excuse here) But for me The Ray is king.
  4. Ok Mate I will bite, what it's about? Funk players and their styles etc.. If so, nab one for me please, I like a good read about those crazy cats! best Regards.
  5. I can't imagine giving up, so far this year its been a little lean for me, only a few gigs played, a new band sort of started that is taking its time, but giving up playing? never! Not till they nail the lid down on me!
  6. Go for graphite Rubis, you won't regret it, I love the sound of my Stingray with its Status Graphite neck on it, and for stability it is amazing, tune it up and I have payed a two hour set many times, and I am a bit of beast, not the most gentle with my Bass and the tuning was still spot on at the end of the gig.
  7. Waiting for an Alibi, Dancing in the moonlight, Killer on loose and Bad reputation, still play them pretty much every day, and they always make me smile and great fun to play, Cheers Philo.
  8. Finest rock bass guitar player that ever walked the Earth in my book, used all techniques, I love his tone and rather like the Alembic to, still prefer his Precision sound off Live at Leeds, but the man was stunning, glad I got to see him do his thing, cheers for sharing.
  9. Tears of a clown, stunning tune, very strong album from the band.
  10. Belated big Happy 60 to Mr Foxton, Town called malice one of my all time faves by him, great fun to play.
  11. Over the years I have had Five P/J configured basses and I have to say Yes it does have an effect, when the J pick up is turned off, so no volume, when compared to a normal P bass configuration, I notice that the P bass sound does lose bit of its treble top end and to my ears sounds a little smoother.
  12. Great guitar player, very creative, one of the most distinctive and original players to arrive after the shred scene imploded on itself. The first RATM album is not only for me Bass 101 (big Tim C fan, best sound on this album, that Ray was mighty!) but the impact of Tom's guitar work was stunning. For Audioslave I am the Highway is a master piece imho.
  13. Top Drawer, playing and singing so great to see.
  14. What would you do? is your question. My answer, you want to play, you want people to turn up and maybe applaud what you are doing, you make sure you have your own gear, all ways, hire it or buy it, but I have all ways held the belief that its your job to turn up and be able to play, if you cant it's no one else's fault but your own.
  15. I had a 10th anniversary Attitude bass in black, the sound was amazing but I could not get on with the neck size for love nor money, and sadly it seems to be the way with every attitude I have ever tried, great basses, I just cant get on with how it actually makes my hand feel.
  16. I can listen to Smooth Operator by Sade, great little bass solo in that, or I can listen to Marcel Jacob (RIP Marre) burn away, if the solo moves me and has great taste, I love it, the thinking of the bass guitar as purely acting as accompanying, I find alien, if its good and the solo is good, I don't mind on what it is played, taste is the bottom line, but I can appreciate the opinions here, solo Jazz bass moves a lot of people, some of this to me I find cacophonic, but I can respect the abilities shown. Do I want to hear a bass solo? Yes please but make it a good one.
  17. The original version of of Ai No Corrida was Louis to me, still can't believe he's gone, taken a while to come to terms before making a comment, the world got a little less funky with this man's passing. Thank you Louis, RIP.
  18. The problem here is, that Pino is a great bass payer no doubt, I watched the concert and enjoyed it, but, or rather, BUT John was the MAN end of.
  19. Ghost Town by the Specials, I had never been to a big city before, went on a school exchange to Coventry, never really had a great deal of interaction with Asian/Black or Oriental people at all, was living in a very small town, dawn of Thatcherism, urban violence and inner city riots were on the TV a lot, and this song sent chills down my spine, as I heard it at the school, so to that end it still reminds me of that time, still scares me, so its Ghost town and the actual way that song reflected the time and the way it scared me.
  20. Had the great pleasure to see this man in concert, jaw dropping was an understatement, a true original....sadly missed, bass player here not to shabby either !
  21. I wish you well with your sale mate, but as another "StatusRay" owner I would recommend caution
  22. I hope the KKK don't take your baby away!
  23. Use everything, don't limit to one, I use pick a lot, but my finger style is not bad and I even dabble in slap, John Entwistle used everything going for example.
  24. If I still feel pumped up after the gig and its not to far to drive home, its a live album, world wide live the scorpions, live after death by Maiden or (surprise) Live and dangerous, or Live and still dangerous, Lizzy of course. If I feel the need to relax, long drive, its nothing, sweet silence.
