OK, silly question to some. But why do companies like Sadowsky, Nordy, Sandberg & so on make Jazz copies & say they sound "Just like a Jazz" when you can buy a Fender Jazz that sounds "Just like a Jazz" for about 1/2 the price (or less) & the punters won't think you couldn't afford a proper Fender? I can understand the basses that sound "Just like a Jazz" but don't look "Just like a Jazz", such as the Ritter Cora. I like the sound of a Jazz (and the Precision), but I don't like the Fender body designs.

I've got a Markbass CMD 102p 2x10 combo & it fits my needs perfectly. If I replaced it I would go for a Barefaced cab & possibly a Markbass head. I tried many things from rigs to combos & narrowed it down to a combo for portability, packawayability & quickness. I then tried countless combos (including the Ampeg, which isn't much cop IMO) & ended up getting the MB on the rep of the LMII alone & I've never regretted it. Quite possibly the loudest combo on the market & weighs just 19Kg (a 1 handed lift) & if for some reason you needed more volume (such as a big gig with no PA), then you can add another cab. If you want to hear mine (& even have a wee blast on it), then I'm playing at Dunblane on the 12th of November. CLICK HERE!

Bluewhat? If it's cheap (as in sweetie money), then go for it. You can always sell it on to someone who's looking for their 1st amp on a budget (making them aware of any problems with it, of course).

SOLD: Buzz Electronics Octo Looper (8-way True Bypass Looper)

The 1x15 won't add any extra lows, infact IIRC it doesn't go as low as the 4x10. I'd try a Barefaced or two before getting an Ampeg cab (still with the SVT7). Will cut through & sit in the mix better than any ?x10.

That's a very impressive board! Edited to say, You don't realise how big that board is until you think how big a Moog pedal is!

For the same price as the FM4, you could get a 2nd hand BEF. One recently sold on here for £75.

Welcome to Basschat & the place where you'll soon change your mind on the rig Like algmusic says, why Ampeg? Is it the name? If you want that Ampeg sound you could get a Barefaced Super 12 & pair it with a decent amp & use a Sansamp or similar to get that "Ampeg" sound, but with a bigger range of tones available, better build/sound quality & a lot lighter & louder.

I think they're getting your trolley in place for it.

& another great help is to find another musician to play with. Doesn't matter what they play, it makes for more fun! I've been playing bass for well over 25 years & still learning. All good.

What sort of music do you like? Find a couple of simple songs that you like & google the TAB for it. TAB = Tablature & is a simple way of reading notes as each line represents a string & the # represents the fret. Better still if you can read score, then hit the Bass Clef YTS. Get a couple of good books (pop into your library & try a few from there). Oh, & welcome to Basschat!
Good point! External dimensions measure 47 x 23 x 9.5" I actually could just abou fit in it
That's, pretty big! Bigger than your cab!!! You'll soon get used to it though.

RH450 + 1 x RS210 can I crank to full without fear of damage?
xgsjx replied to charic's topic in Amps and Cabs
Drop C is even better!!! I'd like to try a bunch of 450-500w rated heads & put them one after the other through the same cab & see how each compares in Db. Alex, I dare say you've already tried this? -
Like TRBboy says, go & try loads out & find one that you get on with. Ibanez are brilliant basses for the money & even better 2nd hand, for £300 you could get something that would give most £800 s/h basses a run for their money. But, would you get on with the slim neck? Only you could know that.

Don't listen to any of them Cha, they're full of fairy dust. What to do is turn every dial fully clockwise, plug your bass in & do the same with that, turn the power on, hold an E power chord with the open low E & whack those strings as hard as you can. You'll be fine! -
I'm gonna go with A. Doesn't look like me (I'm white with long hair & a beard), I don't smoke (though I used to), & I play through FX to get as untraditional a sound as possible. But.... He's the only one that looks like he'd play some DnB, blues, jazz or laid back chillax stuff.

Mrs X (who actually joined the forum, but has never used her login) supports my playing. Whether it be Bass, Guitar or something else, as long as it doesn't interfere with our weekends she's more than happy for me to play (she's fine with the odd gig here & there). As I recently discovered my bridge being broken on my bass, she's offered to buy me a replacement. How sweet is that!

I think the Super 12 would do more than you think it can (going by reports on here, anyway). The lows that the Big Twin can produce (and actually be useful) are as low as 21Hz according to the Barefaced website (and Pantherairsoft). That's lower than the vast majority of cabs! So also a good contender. Alex will let you give the cab straight back if you're not happy with it. 3 Guitarists? Either well co-ordinated or the vocalist has a hard life!

Looking forward to seeing this. Does it have a retractable seat so you can use both feet?

You're kinda right on all accounts as such. A pre amp is a signal booster that "heats up" the signal before the power amp gets it. This could be the Active electronics in your bass, a pedal such as a DHA VT1 or Sansamp BDDi, or the input & tone section on your head (amp, not human). Have a read at some of the pinned sections such as "Gain, Power & Volume", "Valve amp Vs Solid state amp", "DI Boxes & playing through the PA" & of course "The Wiki". Edited to say "those topics are in the "Amps & Cabs" forum.

Hey all, I've got a charity gig on 12th November with my band, BigRoom. We're kind of an unusual mix of Rock, Americana, Folk, Blues, Jazz, Electro & anything else you can feed us (The singer plays a Godin Synth access guitar, the drummer plays a mixture of Acoustic & electronic kit, I play bass thru some fx & get as techno DnB sounding as I can & there's a lady whom plays either Mandolin, Tin Whistle, Bodhran or Spoons. This set will be more Rock/Blues/Electro stuff. There's another band on with us called Main Street Blues (from Edinburgh), no points for guessing what style of music they play! It's in the Victoria Hall in Dunblane (straight across the road from the train station). As it's for charity, there's a fee to get in. I will get back with a price & a start time.
for sure. however I am confined to using small lightweight cabs ( bad back and a ford fiesta!) so i am interested in whether the 1by12 traveler, or for that matter any other small lightweight cab is a good compromise between the lack of definition (IMO) of the markbass 1by15 and the lack of bass of the 2by10.
That's one of the reasons I went for a combo. Easy carry with 1 hand (usually the drummers) & small enough to fit into whatever small car I have (was a Honda DelSol, then a VX Corsa C & now an old T plate Clio) & has enough grunt & low end to cope without PA at decent gigs (Next gig is in Dunblane, 12/11/11 at the Victoria Hall (shameless plug)). Try one of the larger 2x10s that MB do, you'll be surprised at how little they weigh & how low they can go (OK, so Barefaced go lower still).

Question is, with the current crop of cabs available why would anyone want an Ampeg stack unless it's to have the name that goes with it?
