1. Well I whipped the strings & the bridge off my bass to give it a nice thorough waxing & when I was popping the strings back on the saddle on the E popped up. The alan screw stayed in the rest of the saddle & on further examination, discovered that the D & G saddles are also broken. So now I need a new saddle (that octaver is getting further away every day ). So I need to ask you guys what my options are. The bass is an Ibanez SR1000e, made in 1989 (in Japan) & the bridge on it is an Omni Adjust which is apparently made by Gotoh & string spacing is @ 19mm. Here's a couple of pics showing the bridge... They were taken 4 months ago. I'd like to replace it with a decent bridge, but I don't want to be spending £100 or more just now on something if something for £30 is gonna do the job fine for now.
2. Source Audio BEF Pro with a Hot Hand is a top contender at the mo... I want one. & for Low Pass Loveliness & swells the Moog MF-101... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WTlxSVIq2gU I've got one
3.
Thanks for all the advice. I do have another friend(newish) who is a pro base player so I could ask him to help, but I thought if I did that my son may end up wanting £1000+ bass!!
How would a baseball player help? Only messing. My first bass was a Vox Standard which picking up now, is probably the heaviest bass I've ever come across (I'm sure it's made of cement). Most kids aren't gonna worry about weight. Charic's advice is good though, get him to a shop to try a few out. Maybe here? Clicky linky.
4. Also Ibanez are very good for the money & can be had for very little.
5. I was at practice tonight too. Actually snapped the string in the EP2 from doing a load of wub wub! whipped the baseplate off it & fixed in seconds. We've got a blues gig next month, so I thought I might invent a new genre. Bluesstep. Well Rasta man, what's your next moog gonna be? Glad you gave the 101 a chance, it does add a load of lovely bass to the sound.
6.
Eh?? If you don't like Fender top horns how can you like Ritter top horns?? Aarrgghh! My brain!!
The Ritter top horn is nicely curved & slender. The Fender top horn looks like a cyst. It's just got that deformed look about it in my eyes (I dare say for a lot of folk it's the other way around).
7.
Am I the only person who feels ill when they see the words "Expert" village?
I'm sure it's really Expert Village Idiot!
8. Aye it's good, but not as good as Expert Village! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LQGrM5HS8vU&feature=relmfu I know, it's been posted before. But skills like that can't be taught!
9. Some combos have the internal speaker on a jack that plugs into the back of the combo amp. If it does you can unplug it, but you're most likely gonna need a short male/female 1/4" extension lead from the combo speaker to your Eden amp. Other option is to take the DI from the Eden & into the Peavey, but it's still not gonna sound like your rig does. Get a smaller good cab for lugging around (sell the 2x15 & get 2 1x15s would be my suggestion).
10.
Super Funky!
I'll second that. Quality stuff!
11. I think the only thing that really puts me off Fenders is the top horn. It's nothing short of hideous! The rest is a very nice. Not as nice as a Ritter, but still nice.
12. My Mrs calls the whammy bar (or tremolo arm) a "Wahwah Lever".
13. Depending on how they tune the cabs, it may or may not have more bass. You'd need to A/B them. Don't worry about the watts. 2 8 ohm cabs will get about 118 watts each (that's if the amp puts out 236w @ 4ohms & the TC cabs are 8 ohm, but there's another debate about that elsewhere & kinda points to watts DON'T mean volume as the TC amps are loud).
14. I'd suggest pairing another 2x10 to your 2x10. 12,s don't have any more bass unless they use a bigger cab (& then it's down to cab design) & then you have the risk of losing certain frequenciesfrom your sound when you mix driver sizes.
15. I'd perservere with the moog. I wasn't overly impressed with mine when I first got it, but as I got to use it more I discovered more & more possibilities with it. The settings I started with on everything (bass, amp & other fx) was very different from what I use now & wouldn't be without either of my moog pedals (I want more, but funds won't allow just now ).
16. Here maybe?
17. This ticks every box for me! Though this is up there too...
18.
PMSL You could throw up on that and not notice
And that's on either!
19. Does that amp not chuck out 236w at 4 ohms On a serious note, use your ears & if it sounds bad, turn it back a bit or lose a touch of bass off it. I use a Markbass 2x10 combo & haven't had any troubles being heard. Edited to say, I doubt you'll need to crank it up full.
20. A couple of us had considered holding a bash in Central(ish) Scotland last year, like Falkirk, Stirling or Perth. But I think everyone was too busy. I was gonna try & organise something, but I got too busy with work & personal life. Never been able to make the Moffat bash (though I'd love to go sometime).
21. 2 expression pedals would be ideal for that sound. 1 into the cutoff & 1 into the resonance. Try the res at @ 6-7 & EP2 into cutoff & a good fuzz on your bass.
22.
Great minds think alike!!!
Indeeed. I find myself switching between 2 & 4 pole, depending on what sounds I'm wanting. Another thing I found can work quite well (again depending on song), is putting the EP2 into the amount. It still allows you to do swells, but gives you wah.
23. & whilst I mind, put your 101 after the 506. I've been thinking about doing a video review of some settings, so maybe soon .
24. Turn the cutoff to about 9 o'clock (or just above) & put it on 2 pole to start with. I have the res at @ 4, but if you want a bassier sound, take it down (between 0 & 2 has tonnes of bass! ). Amount should be at 0 & the Mix at 10. I notice Shep's on here too, let's see how our settings compare.
25. Does look similar to the Hamer Impact & Velocity, but the horns are different (less bent).
