1. I haven't really paid much attention to him before, but I wish my terrible playing was as bad as his!
2. I might just go & see what forums I can find, if I can get away from BC for 5 mins! I've got a couple of harddrives from old PCs with sounds, loops & good ideas with great intentions sitting in a box along with some sample CDs that I've been threatening to stick on my mac for the past 3 1/2 years. The Mrs keeps saying "I'll get you a drive caddy from work", but never has (& probably a good thing!).
3. I take it the 6Ω cab is either a 3x10 or a 6x10? A 6x10 running at 6Ω should be louder than a 4Ω 4x10 as it's moving more air (how many watts the cab gets from your amp wont make a noticeable difference). If you're like me & rarely put your bass through the PA (too small a PA for everything really), then your best option is having all your drivers vertical, such as 2 15"s or 2 2x10"s stacked on end. This way your sound will spread across your audience better.
4. Believe it or not, the Bass Murf is happy to run off a daisychain & has no noise at all! I was hugely surprised. It does need to draw 300mA though.
5. Wishbass? Encore???
6. How about a Ritter, or are they out of the price range?
7. If you oil & wax the body you do not need to laquer it, just wax it every year or so, as and when needed. If you want to paint or varnish it later you could try sanding it down & rubbing it with something like turps (google has ideas on how to do this), or you could sand off the wax coating & paint/varnish with a linseed based paint/varnish. My original plan was going to be to paint the body & maybe leave a little wood if any was nice enough, but after sanding down what was below the crusty black stuff, I saw sense.
8. I got one made for my Markbass combo just over 3 years ago & was one of the best services I'd ever had. The chap called me & asked what colour piping I wanted & let me know it would be a little longer than normal as it was the 1st one they'd made for this combo. Fits perfect too! & the wait time was less than what I would have expected from anywhere else with one in stock.
9. Your bass might be a tool, but mine's brilliant!
10. I'm surprised no one here snapped this up. I'd want well more than what you wanted for mine if I ever sold it. Someone got a bargain!
11. I stripped my bass of paint & finished it with Danish oil & Beeswax. Depending on how much you polish it will depend on how shiney it is. I went for the satin finish. 12. Hmm, tricky one. I like bass (& bass guitar, but that's in a different topic), but I'm not too sure about this music malarky. I like making noises & deep rumbles though! Does that count as music?
13.
I'd rather talk about gear than talk about scales.
Back on topic, I think it depends on the kind of music you're playing (I haven't read all the pages so sorry if I repeat something). If you play bass in the traditional sense, then gear won't make a bad player good (but I agree that better quality gear being easier to play should help). If you play bass that relies on effects for the sound, then a budget bass plugged straight in isn't gonna make very good dubstep (or whatever style you choose there). I've used the same bass for 20+ years & wouldn't change it (although I do want a fretless 5/6). I have however, changed my gear that I put it through considerably. Some songs I play require my playing ability, some rely on me controlling my effects & playing a very simple bassline with my fingers. Like I say, it depends on the music.
14. I'd love one of these bad boys with the hot hand. Could get some brilliant sounds & textures mixing this with the moog LPF! GAS again. Well, don't just sit there reading my drivel, get you recording gear out & make a video!
15. I can reccommend the Bass Murf for choppy sequency stuff (& more), but it is a big box & not cheap, so a bit of a pointless post from me.
16. I paggered my back @ 25 years ago through trying to lift a video game cabinet out of an amusement arcade on my own (15 & I thought I could lift anything). After that, I learned to lift properly but it still comes back. Last month I was holding one of my moggies, leaned forward to let him down & it just went. So painful I had to take the day off work (which I actually hate doing). This is one of the reasons I like my Ibanez SR, it's @ 8lb. Another good tool on stage is the bar stool (though maybe not for rock/punk). Also my Markbass combo weighs less than most of the heads I've owned!
17. That's cheered me up at work!
18. I've voted "depending on the player". I had a chap put his double bass through my Markbass 2x10 combo & it was well respected. Sounded sweet too! If you're concerned, you could have the organisers sign a contract that covers any damage to your gear. Or they could hire a rig.
19. I think he'd need to remove the head from the combo for that to be a viable option, or sell the combo to fund a head & 2 2x10s.
20. If you like the sound of your 15", get another one. You'll get more of the same, but louder.
21. If it's a small venue he often uses hotrods, but not always. You'd actually be surprised at some of the gigs I've done with sub 100 watt combos, really shows that watts doesny = volume (a good example of folk getting hung up on watts is the TC thread, those heads are loud & put out less than 150w into 8 ohms).
22. Just thought of something! If the chest logo was on the other side, it wouldn't get hidden when playing bass (unless your a lefty).
23. Count me in. I've been wanting to get my hands on a BC top for yonks.
24.
I have to agree with cream or white or anything bright, but only if it has a maple fingerboard, if it's rosewood then I would go for black. Here is what Candy Apple Red looks with a white p/g
Now if you turned that around & put the body to the top it could be mistaken for a toffee apple (with jaggy bits hanging down)
25. Beige or light brown.
