  1. Very hard for me to choose just one. Nathan East’s playing on Random Access Memories is fantastic. But then so is the bass playing on Automaton by Jamiroquai. But there’s too many great albums for me to choose just one for bass playing.
  2. I agree. So many do look much of a muchness, that is until you start spending £5k+ & my ears won’t justify that. I didn’t really want to pay more than £500 for a turntable, but it turns out that all that £500 will get me is a nice sounding deck that looks the same as every other £500 deck. It’s not that they are ugly, just that they don’t appeal to my visual tastes. This visually ticks my boxes… This doesn’t & would look out of place (though in my last house, it would have went well)…
  3. I’ll definitely take a look at as many turntables as I can find in the @£1500 area. The Clearaudio Concept looks like a nice deck & I’ll show the Mrs it too. The problem we have with most new turntables that we can afford, is that they all follow this “minimalist” design approach. If you took the badge off of a Rega, a Pro-Ject or a number of other brands, they all look like they’re from the same template. The Linn ticks a lot of boxes. It’s made locally to me, it fits in with our decor, it apparently sounds good (even with entry level tonearm/cartridge), it’s upgradable, and it holds it’s value (should we decide to sell). I’m still open to finding alternatives to it though.
  4. I like the 1210 & used them many times back in the 80s & 90s when DJing. Great sounding solid decks, but the looks are not to the Mrs’ likings.
  5. Well, after taking on board what everyone’s said on here & having another think, I’ve decided that I’m gonna save a bit more & invest in a Linn LP12. I’ll likely buy from a shop such as HiFihub.co.uk They have a good selection around £1500 and being a shop, I feel like I have some sort of reassurance that it’s going to be in good working order (they give them a full service).
  6. Hardware wise, he’s using a mix of Roland TD30 module, SPDSX Pro, Yamaha DTX 12 & occasionally pulls out a rather nice kit of triggers that look like maple drums. We both use Logic to host our software. My MacBook is running the bulk of the synth stuff & we slave his Logic to mine (I hit play, his runs in sync). I’ve no recordings of our stuff with the singer that I can share as yet, but I’ll try & get something up soon.
  7. My goals for this year is to get my new band gigging & release an album. Over the course of the latter half of last year, we’ve almost finished writing 6 songs & have a good number of ideas ready to write some more. We’re a 3 piece electronica outfit. I do most of the synths and play bass on some of the tracks (others are synth bass), with an edrummer who does some synth stuff, and a very talented female vocalist brings us all together. For now, we’re called Euphon8. I like it, but sometimes think it sounds a bit like Euthanate. 🤣
  8. Have you tried throwing it in the river? Worked for my bagpipes.
  9. It’s fairly solid where the unit is sitting. It’s wood, but right next to brick wall. Not much of a dancer.
  10. Cheers guys. It’ll mostly be albums that we play. I’ve got a couple of 45s, but chances are, they’ll rarely get played. Not got any 78s. The turntable will be going on a floor standing sideboard style cabinet, so would a suspended plinth be the better option?
  11. I’m looking for a good looking & good sounding turntable, so thought I’d get advice & suggestions from the knowledgeable folk on here. I’d like to keep it to around £500 including the tone arm & cartridge. I don’t mind going a little over if it’s something that my wife approves of (it is for both of us). New, I’ve spied a Pro-Ject 2XPERIENCE, a Pro-Ject Elemental special edition, and the Rega Planar2 - all around £500. There’s also the Technics SL40 on sale for £610, which is very nice. Vintage, I’ve been looking at a couple of Thorens decks. There’s a TD-125 available that’s just in budget, but considering they go for between £500 & £5000, it’s at the bottom end. Also saw a Systemdex iiX for sale not too far from me. I know it gets great reviews, but I’m not sold on the looks (it’s the black finish). Anything else I should be looking for? I don’t need a phono stage, as it’ll be hooking up to a Ruark R410 system.
  12. RC-20 Retro Colour available this weekend for £34. https://www.xlnaudio.com/products/addictive_fx/effect/rc-20_retro_color?utm_campaign=2025_q4_rc20-flash-sale&utm_source=xln&utm_medium=newsletter
  13. The Cure - Mixes of a Lost World. I’ve been going to listen to this album for yonks, but never did until today. Why didn’t I listen to it much sooner?! The remixes are fantastic.
  14. The problem I’ve been having with my NHS HAs is in places like the office. I really have to concentrate and focus to listen to anyone. Working & talking at the same time isn’t possible. Apparently, better quality HAs will make this easier. Also having a tinnitus function could prove useful. Like I put in the title, I want ones that can work well with music, not just speech. The band I’m in are An electronica band & I do a lot of sound design, so would like to hear the top end for a change & not have someone else check that for me. So far, there’s only a couple of hearing aids that offer AI. I’ve been looking at the Oticon Intent 1, which get great reviews, so I’ll see if I can give them a test run. https://www.oticon.co.uk/hearing-aid-users/hearing-aids/products/intent There's also the Starkey Edge as another option. https://www.starkey.co.uk/hearing-aids/edge-artificial-intelligence-hearing-aids
  15. I’m desperately in need of new hearing aids & wondered what my fellow deafies use? Also, what’s people’s opinions on hearing aids with AI? My concern is privacy & AI recording my conversations. But it does seem to be a lot of benefit otherwise.
  16. Cheers BRX. That’s really helpful. I met with the drummer yesterday & got a drum take as a wav. He’s going to redo it, as there’s some changes he want to make to his playing, but the kit remains the same. So I can use that to work with & then hopefully just replace the wav with his new take & it should sound the same. The only vocal take I have for now was recorded on my phone. We’re all meeting at the end of August (& more regularly from then), so that’s when I’ll get a good vocal take. My goal here is to have a near finished sound with my parts for when we meet so we can get the best from her vocals. I’ve taken your advice & carved some mids out of the synth that does the intro & chorus sounds (& high passed down to about 2k for now) & it’s made a huge difference, so I’ll definitely be taking that approach with the other synths too. The bass sound is made up of 3 synths. Serum provides the sub 300hz sound which is constant throughout, Massive provides the acid like top bass sound at the start & in the chorus/break, which has heavy high & low pass filtering (all that gets through is 250-1100 hz), and Pigments provides the top bass sound for the verses (the more muted short decay synth). Though I’ve just realised that both top synths do go below 300hz, so that could cause issues between 200-300hz with the sub. I’ll play about with that, but might well end up using just the 1 synth. I’ll take your advice on the mix. Like I say, I do have her vocal part, but not the greatest recording. However, I can use it to get the drums & bass sounding good with it, then bring in the synths. I can then do any tweaks when we meet up. Thanks for your feedback. It’ll be very helpful & is really appreciated. 😎
  17. I've started a 3 piece electronica band (me on synths/controllers/bass, a chap on edrums/synth, & a female vocalist). Our first song to complete is more EDM than our other creations so far, but I'm not happy with my parts. Just the overall sound/production to my ears sounds like it was mixed by someone who doesn't even know what a DAW is. Would anyone be able to take a listen and let me know how to improve it, or recommend a good production course? I've looked at a few courses, but not sure what I need to focus on. This is the instrumental version with just my parts. Vocals and another drum part are to be added. https://on.soundcloud.com/TUX5bz62RXZmPCO1U2
  18. Great musician, singer & frontman. But a total bellend of a person who supported apartheid.
  19. Carlsbro don’t make beer, but if they did you’d pour it down the drain.
  20. So far it seems pretty good. I don’t know what the user base is like if you decided to use it for promoting your stuff, but as a host for ideas, it does it just like Soundcloud did.
  21. I’ve signed up to hearthis.at & it’s just what I need. It’s like Soundcloud used to be. Looks very similar, it’s easy to use & the free version has an upload limit of about 50 songs. Perfect for hosting to share, like sending song links to people or posting in the Basschat compo compo. When I get more time, I’ll have a look at the other options too.
  22. I’ve got a new band forming & wanted to upload a couple of song snippets online to seek other musicians & promote the music/band. So as I’ve done in the past, decided to create a soundcloud account for the band. Done! But it’s now limited to a 2 track upload for the free account (it used to be something like an hour of audio). So I’m looking to see what alternatives there are. Does anyone on here have experience with or use the likes of Bandcamp, Audiomack, Hearthis.at or any other platforms that they’d recommend or is it worth buying the Soundcloud subscription? Cheers.
  23. For the summing part, you basically need a 2 channel mixer. If you can solder, it’s easy to make a passive one.
  24. So it was, that was “How grate is our god”. 🤣 Yes, it does indeed. 7 in 1 it is then.
