  1. It might be portamento time? That’s not on the front panel of the Jupiter X. You have to go into a menu to set the speed, but there’s a big portamento button on the panel.
  2. I was going to get the Juno X, but the Jupiter X comes with a Juno 106 as well as a Jupiter 8, a JX8P, an SH-101, an XV5080, the RD piano, a vocoder, zencore & the Jupiter X synth engine, so to me was a better deal even at £2300 new. I’ve had mine for 3 months & hardly touched the surface of what it can do. last night I spent a few hours just creating a synth bass sound that used 2 Jupiter 8s, a JX8P & an SH-101 all layered to make one big killer bass sound. £1450 is a bit of a bargain!
  3. That’s sad to hear. I know that in 2021 they filed for bankruptcy, but I thought they’d gotten sorted out as they then released Lumi & more recently the Rise2.
  4. For musical instruments, Roli gave me outstanding customer service. About 5 years ago, my Rise, which was out of warranty, developed a fault. I contacted Roli to ask if I was able to fix the issue, they sent me a returns label which covered postage & 3 days after sending it, I had it back fully working & not costing me a penny. Cambridge Audio have also been superb with a similar sort of response to an issue.
  5. . Phone did that double post thing. 😂
  6. Do churches still play hillsong? Isn’t that a bit like going to see a Gary Glitter tribute act?
  7. Ooooh! That’s full of inspiration pushing creativeness.
  8. I agree that it’s better to have a more powerful rig. Though if you’re struggling for volume with the 100w amp, you can add another cab of the same & that’ll most likely be plenty of dB. Most valve amps are 200w at most (there are some exceptions). Valve watts are not any different from SS ones.
  9. Just heard the start of Mariah Carey “Without You”. #”No I can’t forget the semen on your face as you were leaving”.
  10. Yes, that’s how it’s measured, but often just written as dB/m.
  11. See if you can find the SPL data for it. It’ll show as dB per Metre.
  12. If you’re going FRFR, then the Bassics BPA-1 was designed for what you have in mind, as it has 2 channels with independent levels & switchable impedance. I just got mine from another chap on here recently.
  13. Cmon guys. Everybody knows he’s gonna need a 2000w valve head into an 8x10 fridge. 😹
  14. I heard they often cockerel up.
  15. Sadly, it’s been a busy month for me (knocking down old garage, getting foundations clear for new one & just general house renovating), so might not have anything for this month. Certainly won’t get any vocals from the Mrs in time. ☹️ Hopefully next month.
  16. I remember seeing a Billy Sheehan interview & the interviewer asked why he doesn’t play a 5 string. His answer was along the lines of “I’m still learning how to play 4 strings”.
  17. Did Leo Fender did what most great Americans do…. Take someone else’s idea & capitalise? It was about 15 after the Audiovox that Fender made the P bass & maybe Tutmarc’s invention would have disappeared into obscurity.
  18. I’ve been a 4 string player for about 40 years. Played a few 5s & liked them, but I’ve only played 1 song where I thought “if only I had a 5” & that’s Superfresh by Jamiroquai. None of the bands I’ve been in play it though.
  19. Now that’s a good shout. I’ll go & have a look at those. 👍🏼 Yes, it’s a lovely bit of kit. I bought it on here off sk8 last month. Dunno why he decided to sell it, but I’m glad he did. Makes a great front end for my FRFR set up. I’m planning on finding a nice drive pedal to replace the BDI21. I do like the mid scoop & light drive that it gives.
  20. It’s been a while since I’ve posted in here, but this is my board now. Why do they not stick the jack sockets higher up to account for pedal board lips? If they did, I could have had the Bassics preamp back another inch & the other pedals could’ve sat portrait. I might play about some more.
  21. It can vary, but that’s not usually what it is. Here’s examples. If you drive to work but don’t use your vehicle whilst you work (other than for personal use), then that’s commuting. If you drive to work, but then use your car whilst you’re working, for example driving from office to office, then that’s business. However, if you intend to carry business tools in your car from home to work & then back, then it could be just classed as commuting, but some insurers may see it as an increased theft risk & want to charge extra, hence business. Car insurance will cover a small amount of personal goods in the car (usually just about £500 tops), but it’s very unlikely to cover your music gear if it was a paid gig & if it did, would leave you out of pocket. Home insurance “could” cover it as Personal belongings (might need specified) or extra business tools cover if they can give it, but for the gigging musician, you’re better to go with an instrument insurer such as Blue Moon or the MU. They also give you public liability cover in with the cost. Edit to say, if you’re insured under more than 1 policy, then the claim will be shared by all insurers, but should only show as a claim on 1 policy. So if you had cover up to £500 on your car insurance, £4k on your home insurance & was also fully covered on your MU insurance, you’d make a claim on your MU insurance & they would contact the other 2 insurers to get them to chip in towards the cover. However, this should not show as a claim on the other 2 policies, nor should it affect the price of them, as the claim was made through MU.
  22. I worked for a major insurance company for over a decade. Best thing to do is phone them & ask, as each company can have a different perspective on what to class it as. They’ll get details from you and speak with an underwriter if it’s something they’ve not had before. Chances are, it might be classed as “Commuting”, but it could also be classed as “Business”. It could depend on how often you gig. Something to bear in mind is how/if your gear is covered. Doubtful that your car insurance will cover any of it & often home insurance will only cover theft if it’s concealed out of sight in a locked vehicle.
  23. The Glasgow stores are great too. Bought my synth from them a couple of months ago & they price matched it, the case & the stand.
  24. When you take into account how many sets of roundwound strings you probably go through in 10 years, flats start to seem more of a bargain. My D’addario chromes was on my bass for 10 years. Replaced them last month just because I felt like a change of brand (went for Rotosound 77 flats). But there was nothing wrong with the chromes. So much so that the guitarist at last band jam said “your bass isn’t sounding as good, what’s changed”.
  25. That’s the only song she’s ever recorded. She loves singing too, but won’t sing in front of anyone other than me. I need to break her out of that nonsense.
