Tanglweood Rebel Over a Grand
Roger2611 replied to Thunderbird's topic in eBay - Weird and Wonderful
That's the problem when you get your 6 year old daughter to proof read your ad! -
I love my Fenders, I have recently decided to cull all the non Fender Precision basses after finally realising that the Precision basically just works, I decided to give the Warwick a rare outing the other week, it is a 2010 German dealer only LTD edition Corvette $$, so all in all a pretty decent bass, I used it for the first half of a gig in a room with awful acoustics, it was horrendous, every time I played a G the whole room shook like a Chilean earthquake yet all other notes you could hardy hear! At the interval I switched to my 1986 Jap Precision (the Precision version of the Jazz Bass Special) the whole second set I could hear every note, the sound was far better balanced, I don't know why but the Precision bass just does the job where a bass with far more tonal options seemed to struggle...explain that if you will! After the gig a random punter wandered over and asked why the "good looking" bass sounded horrible in the first half....what more can I say other than Leo Fender really did get it right first time
My rig is a Little Mark II with a compact 2x10 and compact 1x15 as in the avatar <-. I like the flexibility it gives. The 2x10 for rehearsals, coffee bar gigs etc (which it give more than enough vol and bass for) and the two cabs for bigger gigs or vocal/acoustic only PA covers gigs (pubs, weddings, functions etc). The LMII is light and in a rucksack case. The LMII and the 2x10 seems more back friendly to me than the equivalent Markbass combo. I love the Markbass stuff but you could get a similar result with lots of other lightweight brands.
I have exactly the same rig and completely agree with the above

Do we agree that decent cables do make a difference to those normally supplied with guitars, hifi, TV etc? If so I wonder what the cut off point is where the cable is no longer an improvement over the standard but just becomes a status symbol purchase?

errrrrrrrrrrrrr pricey?!
Roger2611 replied to civilian_project's topic in eBay - Weird and Wonderful
Well you can buy Flea's autograph for £69.95 so I am assuming the bass is made of solid gold -
It's simple, someone broke the end bit off.....sandpapered it down to sawdust then glued the sawdust to the neck in a random pattern .....simples

RIP Bryn.....Thanks for the Night!

Is this possibly the best possible use for a Digitech Bass Synth Wah pedal ?

With a description like that I'm going to have to start the bidding at £500.00..............not!

How to stop "on stage" volume from the bass bins
Roger2611 replied to largo's topic in General Discussion
Do you really need such volume from the bass bins on stage? we are a Rock/ pop covers band and use a single powered bass bin with the crossover set to pick up the bass drum more than anything else and I don't even hear the sub onstage -
mexican 50s p bass or greco p bass
Roger2611 replied to garry warrington's topic in General Discussion
Having owned both I would go with the Mexican 50's bass but, every bass is different the Greco may be the best one they ever made the 50's could be a dodgy one that you don't take to, if you can try both before you decide that will give you best guidance -
I like Vintage TV, I think it is the best of the dedicated music channels available at the moment but I can't help thinking that one day there will be a really good music channel, I am imagining a channel concentrating on the "rockumentries" shown on BBC4 and Sky Arts mixed with interviews, tour news, live bands ala Whistle Test etc

RIP Rico, I will give the Specials records an outing this evening

I used to work for a Rolls Royce dealership, when I started there I simply couldn't understand how someone could see / justify spending £250.000 on a car, quite simply they are not 100 times better than the bread and butter Ford Sierra that everyone was driving at the time, the sales manager explained it to me as follows: To a buyer of a Rolls Royce at £250.000 it has the same or less impact on their finances as you or I spending £2000 on a car, simply put they can afford it, to many of them it wasn't a status symbol it was the best that money could buy, it made them happy...... To me that does make sense....I have the ability to try and own a good few basses and actually find one I like and sell on those that I don't like, I currently own a very expensive Warwick which I really like but choose to gig with a pink Mike Dirnt Squier Precision (with Fender decal!) why...because I am using the bass I like best, I could, and have gigged the Warwick and did actually get comments on the bass, yet it was with the Squier that I got favourable comments on the sound I produced.

I keep folding my cables in half until they get to a length I can tie them in a loose knot,I don't seem to have any issues with permanent twisting or curling, I have not had a cable fail in fifteen years or more now....yes I know fate has now been well and truly tempted! look for my thread this coming Sunday entitled dramatic cable failure at gig!!

We do Counting Stars (One Republic) and Will You Love Me Again (John Numan) I dislike both because I don't think we do them justice as a single guitar, Bass, drums and vox line up, I think they miss the light and shade the keys and other extras bring to the songs but, and it is a big butt Punters like them, they dance to them and comment on how unusual it was to hear the songs, I guess that largely they hear the missing parts in their heads (especially when beer has had some input) so give us license for the songs not to be an exact copy
-
I never enjoy playing Counting Stars or Will You Love Me Again.....pretty much the same bass line for both, it's not that I dislike the basslines I just don't like the songs, however they seem to go down well with the all important punters so we keep playing

Albums that are not given the recognition they deserve.
Now we're talking! And Gaye Bykers; we supported them a number of times as well - far more my shot of JackyD than Carter... The Chameleons Script of the Bridge is an excellent album, the Chameleons were a very overlooked band in general and inspired many bands that came after them -
Sold Fender Road Worn P Bass inc postage in the UK
how so? The only difference between the nitro and the non-nitro basses is .....er........the nitro finish - how can the finish alone make them totally different basses? Just wondering
They just are The Roadworn feels like you have been playing it for 30 years or more, the poly finish feels like a new bass should. Sounds wise they are not radically different but it is in the feel of the bass that the real difference lies. I own both and the difference is huge, don't get me wrong, both are fantastic basses but my two are totally different. -
Hi, Anyone out there own and play a Dearmond Starfire bass? I like the look of a semi acoustic bass, I tried an Eastwood Classic 4 but was not impressed with the build quality. I also tried the Gretsch Electromatic and was very disappointed with the one I played. I own a beautiful Dearmond MT77 guitar which is as well built as any Gibson or Fender I have ever played so I am hoping the Starfire will have the same kind of build quality and hopefully sound decent as well? Cheers Rog
